      the breaker less system was interesting, only seen one so far and for a moment it was flaky and then sorted itself.
      if only the makers of it would know long after they stopped supporting their system the tried and true points and condenser system is still alive and well, with MANY aftermarket makers making components just as good as OEM.

    Tools don't make a mechanic but they sure get us closer..lol I use an M12 Milwaukee or Dewalt impact setup anymore, they save me so much hassle they're almost worth their weight in gold. You wont need to fast forward your vids as often with one either..lol
    I started using small impacts about 6yrs ago and omg they've saved me so much aggravation, I'd never go back to reg ratchets (Still use reg to hand tighten small nuts/bolts not to strip them thats it). I have a set long impact bits (assorted) to reach into hard to reach areas that also save a lot of trouble.
    I hardly ever use regular wrenches after using Gear Wrench speeds those are super nice too. I only wish I had them all 30yrs ago when I did so much more mechanic work.

    Two things, I have a '69 Wheel Horse Charger with the Kohler KV181S engine and electronic ignition. (vertical shaft) I've found the holes for the points ignition but there are only 4 holes, no center hole for the pin to operate the points. Short of completely disassembling the motor to possibly drill a hole, I'm stuck with the electronic ignition parts shortage or NLA. But I've had no trouble with the ignition (or anything else) for 55 years and recently scored an ebay used coil, trigger and stator cheap so I don't have to abandon the motor. The other thing is when testing the coil there is no continuity between the plug wire and ground or the input and from the input to ground it acts like my meter is charging a capacitor. Can't get the plug wire out of the coil socket, it's really stuck in there and like I said it's run great for 55 years so "leave well enough alone." And who says you can't do a compression test on an ACR engine? 120# right on the nose at cranking speed. Thanks for listening.

      Go through my trouble shooting in this video. Common for the coil to fail at this point. Switching to battery ignition can still be though of as "Original" as only a very small number of machines had the breakerless set up and it was quickly abandoned and replaced with solid state ignition later on.

I messed with the carb some but that didnt seem to help my issue could it be points or somthing im missing. Let me know I figured I would ask you cause I know you work on these engines and make good products.

    • @Isavetractors

      Could be your governor. Try disconnecting the link between governor and carb. Now turn on your deck and safely operate your throttle on your carb by hand. Is there proper power like this? What you're doing is isolating the carburetor by itself and removing the governor from The equation. This should help you narrow down what to do next.

    Norman, this is valuable information and the video is well done. Thank you. I am doing diagnostics on my friend's Kohler engine made for Gravely which has this breakerless ignition system. I see two wires attached to the "trigger point" of the coil module (Looks like yours is the same: at 1:50 in your video). I think it comes from the Trigger module. My question is why two wires coming out of the Trigger module but tied together at the same point at the input to the Coil? How does it work? Thanks.

    • @Isavetractors
      @Isavetractors  2 года назад

      One of the wires is a "Kill wire" and it connects to ground when you turn the key off to turn off your tractor. When you connect the trigger to ground, you provide it with a path of lesser resistance, so the coil doesn't produce a spark, thus shutting everything down.

    Spark plug gap at 35 thousands? They are always at 25 thousands. Or am i wrong.

    • @Isavetractors
      @Isavetractors  3 года назад +1

      .025 plug gap is for Magneto Ignition systems. .035 for battery ignition. The reason is Magneto systems produce much less voltage at the plug so you need a more narrow gap for the spark to jump across. Battery Ignition puts out much more voltage hence the need for a larger gap.
