Thoroughly enjoyed it, as far as an other video could you fly in formation with some fighter jet ? And show us what it takes to stay and stick into the wing of an other aircraft. Keep it up great channel !
Thanks, I am pretty practicing but I find it pretty tricky to settle in position. MSFS is very twitchy in terms of flight dynamics. And I need to get used to the throttle responses.
Cannon sounds awesome -> using .50cal MGs Apart from that the video is perfect for beginners to air combat. Anyone above beginner may find few details here and there weird. Keep in mind we need these vids to get people into digital air combat world. Not DCS exclusively per se, but overall I mean. Nice job.
Very nice vid. This underlines the difference between PC and Xbox MSFS implementations. PC being a significantly better supported platform. Strange guns appear not to be available on Xbox MSFS despite guns being a dominant theme in many other Xbox titles. Very steady handling of the Corsair - most impressive.
Thanks very much 👍🏻 And MSFS decided not to have any weapons displayed on their models hence if purchased from the marketplace, you miss out on the essence of the war machines. And yes, PC is much more useable for 3rd party apps and mods. But I do miss my Xbox!
That was very impressive, the precision and co-ordination to fly against yourself took real skill, I imagine the same skill as planning a real time two-ship sortie, the kind of accuracy and planning required as mandatory for Red Arrow displays, training sorties and combat, absolutely amazing. The lessons on lag and lead were very useful too. I learned about deflection shooting many years ago and had used it in MS War in the Pacific on multiple aircraft successfully on air, and other firing methods on ground and sea targets. Now that i look back it has reminded me of how hard it was to keep track/view due to the long nose of ww2 aircraft, the advantage of the short nose of the Whirlwind with centreline cannon and possibly Mosquito type aircraft. I was told by a former Hunter pilot instructor, TWU at Chivenor vintage, that they used a binocular type gun-sight with one lens/reticle for guns and another for rockets, closing one eye for each selection for ground targets. I never knew if he was joking. Do they use a different reticle for the sight for air to air and air to ground today? It must have taken amazing skill to dance on the rudders and use the joystick in co-ordination with throttle etc to actually keep the enemy in sight and knock them down with short accurate bursts of machine guns and relish the addition of cannon. As another post on here says 19 and 20 year olds, God bless them all. I have often wondered why the Kittyhawk had an iron sight to the left of the reflector sight does anyone know? Great video much appreciated, stay safe, all the best.
Interesting stuff, thanks for taking the time to post it. I’m not sure if it’s true but feasible I guess! Modern gunnery reticules vary depending on aircraft type and mode. But I think they can be the same, especially when using radar ranging.
Excellent and fascinating and also not as easy as you make it look. It blows my mind that 19, 20 year olds did this for real in WWII. Huge respect for them, ( and you Sir, appreciate what you share).
nicely done all round - I appreciate the variety you give to keep things fresh! MilViz did a fantastic job bringing this over from P3D - it remains one of the better addons in the sim even now. Corsairs were infamous for that "left wing drop" just before touch down - it was actually a stall(!) - so keep a few more knots on the bird. Minor "rivet counter" comment: later Corsair variants did indeed have 4 20mm cannons. The vast majority of them, however (including this one), had 6 Heavy Machine Guns - the ubiquitous "fifty cals" with which most US warbirds were fitted :)
Thanks for yet another fantastic video. I cannot fathom how you controll that bird so steady. For me the Corsair is downright terrible sensitive in pitch compared to other planes. You should post this the flightsim Reddit with a stab to DCS, for shits n giggles. Very hard to fathom for many that you can practice (simple, non avionic) combat routines in MFS. I'll get the popcorn :P
Haha, trying not to trigger the DCS fans! 😄 I think there may be a Corsair update which will hopefully improve the handling. It sounds like one of the MSFS updates introduced some undesirables.
@@cgaviator Haha maybe just as well. Yeah i had a real nasty wingover two days ago. Seems that as soon as the wheels touch the ground it really wants to roll
You make it all seem so easy Chris. Might be a nice addition to the hangar, to try WWII carrier landings. At the moment I am fighting the Airplane Heaven P-51, which you already reviewed,. Trying to master taking off from L05 Kern Valley. This is situated at the entrance of the Top Gun, Rainbow Canyon/Sidewinder low flying area. I thought I would scout the valley at 300kts in stead of trying to race it in an F-18.
@@cgaviator Ahh … that wasn’t you! Another Brit flying from Duxford … 😎 But … it is a beautiful work of art that P-51. However just like the Corsair, it pushes me off the runway at 50kts. Full rudder doesn’t prevent it. Work in progress.
@@coolcol06 Get some visual references dialled in for the attitudes you’d like to hold. Fly level/30°/45°/60° bank turns and see where the horizon cuts the canopy. With practice you’ll get very good at it. Or just cross check the altimeter more and adjust attitude as required. Hope that helps
Does anybody else find that the HUDS in general in MSFS are dim and not clear ? - I am comparting against say DCS. I have noticed this in both the Hornet and PC-21 as well.
Firstly, enjoyed the video! Shouldn't you be pulling lead on him before firing though, unless you're just keeping him centred for the purposes of training? On some of those turns I'd want to pull enough lead to lose him under the engine cowling. I'm only an armchair captain though, basing it on my time playing IL2.
I’m not sure how the Corsair sight works tbh but you’re probably right! Let’s just say my engineers have zero’d the sight for 1000 yards! 😅 I’m not getting too close so that I stay in a good control zone and also avoid fragging myself if I actually ‘shot’ him!
Of Note: The USN/USMC used F4 as land based and not carrier due to high accident rate landing due to poor forward visibility. The UK also had F4 and solved the Carrier landing by coming up with a modified approach, as I recall a curving short final and straightening out just before leading edge of deck. US then went to ship based F4 and the rest is history. Jus5 thought you should know the UK contribution to the issue😊
I believe the Corsair became a carrier aircraft after the RAF developed different landing pattern procedures to improve pilot visibility on the approach and included a pressure relief on the tail-wheel oleo that reduced her tendency to bounce. Boyington’s VMF-214 was decimated by a Kamikaze attack on the USS Franklin
Overall great video..however the boresight is just that, a boresight. You need to lead him a little with the pipper, and this is where tracers are especially useful. For the distance you were at, I'd say a full plane's length should be ok. Remember, these aren't radar guided guns like modern fighters, which calculate lead and drop and is literally point and shoot.
@@cgaviator thanks for that will download them all. Appreciate your time. Looking forward to the Tornado GR1 release. And thanks again for all your videos.
i saw that you spoke of leading you guns to hit the target but then you did not really give it any lead. Just want to tell you to lead your shots a little bit more. Still cool video and i did not even know that this was allowed in MSFS
I was wondering when someone would call out my lack of lead at trigger press 👍🏻. I wasn’t sure on how the sight worked but I’m guessing wingspan and the diagonal sight lines may help with that.

Nice video but I cringed every time you referred to the .5" machine guns as cannons 😃 and, as others have said, you weren't leading your shots. As for dedicated combat Sims, someone mentioned DCS but I'd also suggest IL2. If you wait for sales, you can pick up a huge variety of ww2 planes and several campaign areas quite cheaply. It's not the freedom of flying anywhere but at least you can tell if your shots are hitting 😃
I love how at idle the plane shakes and vibrates, just like me after too much coffee :)
