Just wanted to share some knowledge I have learned in 20 years of sim-flying warbirds. The Corsair is famous for "dropping a wing" on takeoff or landing, that is how it earned the nickname "Ensign Eliminator" from its pilots. Later on they changed the shape of the right wing by adding a small wedge to the leading edge to make both wings stall at close to the same time. at 6:53 you can see this wedge near the gun ports. The rudder is also not straight, its pointing 6 degrees to the left which is why your supposed to set the rudder trim 6 degrees to the right on takeoff, slow speeds don't need a crooked rudder. IRL if you see one in a museum, the crooked tail is very apparent. Now days we are all used to lifting the nose up and waiting for the aircraft to start flying on its own, if you do that in a warbird, with a massive engine, and a huge prop, you WILL stall one wing due to a much larger P-factor. On these tail dragger warbirds, you need to hold it on the ground until both wings are generating lift, then pull the nose up, which is the opposite of what we are taught in our easy to fly modern aircraft. You have to fly it off and on the runway, not stall it into the air, or onto the runway like a modern tri-cycle gear, baby engine aircraft of today. You did a good job, I always watch your reviews as part of my research before buying a product.
Thanks very much for informative post Jordon, much appreciated! I’m also really happy to hear that you’ve been finding the content / reviews useful : ) Cheers and all the best!
The one in the movie was the new and last version of the Corsair and had enough power to flip the plane if you weren’t careful but this one is the older version and you can tell because it has three blades and it had less power than the new one
I envy you for the straight take-off, and the smooth landings. I do have a love-hate relationship with this bird. One of the most beautifully crafted, yet freaking nasty to handle beasts in MSFS, imho. Great video, as always!
Haha, cheers Elder Soul, much appreciated! ; ) The Corsair can indeed be a right handful at times (unrealistically so I would surmise), but that’s part of the aircraft’s fun-factor for me haha. That being said, hopefully MILVIZ will update the addon at some point, such that it doesn’t bite quite so hard when mishandled XD I’m glad you enjoyed the vid! Thanks as always : )
Hi MM, I did try the new patch: The Corsair is certainly back to flying much more reasonably but other than that, there haven’t been any hugely significant changes with the update. I would love to feature the FG-1D again at some point, but as we aren’t talking about a drastic overhaul in this particular case, there are other addons / topics that have my priority at the moment. I love the Corsair and would be more than happy to fly it again, but sometimes I have to balance what I like vs what I think will be good for the channel haha. Thanks very much for the suggestion though! I’m sure we’ll revisit the FG-1D one of these days ; )
So much history at that airfield. Back in the day, any landing was a good landing. Thank you for all who flew these planes and who were able to come back home! !! !!!
Very well said Mark! It’s great to be able to enjoy these sorts of experiences in the sim, but sometimes it can be easy to lose touch with the sacrifices that were made. Lest we forget. . . Cheers!
I was a late purchaser for this aircraft so its current state is all I have known. Takeoffs are no problem if I add power slowly to wait for some rudder effectiveness before bringing in all that torque. Landings are a mess. Much of any crosswind causes it to head for the weeds and no corrective action seems to pull it back, I just get the wings to rise and scrape the ground. The engine temperatures have been a major disappointment, I have found that once airborne I can close the cowl flaps and no matter what I am doing, the cylinder head temps are going to drop to very low. Oil temps seem fixed so I never touch the oil cooler. I have seen the water injection light flicker once. The constant speed propeller seems to wallow around with power changes rather than being strictly constant. Since I have not had this since the beginning I can only speculate that all this is a result of MV not keeping up with the updates to MSFS. It is fun to fly but it is well short of what I had understood it to be before purchase.
I got the module when it first came out. It actually had a lot more problems when it first came out and was almost uncontrollable. Then a lot of issues were fixed, and they introduced a functioning supercharger control, which was cool. And then development just seems to have stopped. It's pretty much a skin on the default Asobo flight model at this point, so sometimes when there is an MSFS update the flight characteristics improve a bit. That happened with adverse yaw awhile back. But now with the direction Asobo is going, it sounds like third-party developers need to adapt their modules to use the new CFD model and leverage further flight model updates (though I've heard mixed reviews about the CFD model, anyway). So the ball is back in Milviz/Blackbird's court. It's a gorgeous looking module, so they really should keep it up.
I had this plane since release, CHT temp was always weird, I'm usually flying at maximum continuous power but CHT is dropping to like 50° after some time with cowl flaps closed. I switched to better warplanes long ago, but I remember landings were mess in any kind of crosswind. I think problem is it's suspension. I checked some resources, Corsair had stiff suspension in early days, but that was later fixed. Milviz's Corsair seems like has no suspension at all, just wheels on sticks. Add the fact that the plane was not updated for latest technologies Asobo is using like CFD and have default ground handling physics. Visually still one of the best IMHO, but I think there are better alternatives now.
@@bravetoss which ones do you guys prefer now? I had narrowed it down to this one vs the Hellcat but the Corsair seemed a more logical ground based fighter
@@Cleetusvandamm105 At the moment FlyingIron Hellcat. Custom ground handling is day/night difference to any other warbird with default ground physics. After FI Spitfire receive next update with custom ground physics, I certainly revisit it. I like also P-38 Lightning, but that is different category.
Hi Cleetus, Whilst the Corsair has never been perfect, the addon has seen better days. Most aspects of the product were in their sweet spot about 1 year ago and indeed, the FG-1D is in need of a patch from MILVIZ at this point. There’s not much one can do about the temperatures etc, but for the landing, I find that the best method is using the absolute minimal corrections to keep a wing from dropping - minimal rudder input as well where possible. Some control input will of course be required during the landing, but if you can keep the stick / rudder almost centred up (dabbing the brakes for directional control if necessary), the aircraft is still controllable. Not ideal of course, but it gets the job done. MILVIZ do seem to have gone very quiet on the Corsair - I really hope they continue to support the product. Cheers and all the best! : )
You are the greatest Corsair sim pilot in history! Bravo. Nobody I know can get a decent landing in this plane. Though I am getting better since you showed me it IS possible. Thank you!
Haha, thanks very much once again Reason! ; ) I’m glad the video inspired you to give things another go and that the landings have steadily been improving. Hopefully MILVIZ will update the product at some point and then we won’t all have to be Chuck Yeager to land the thing XD You’re most welcome! My pleasure and all the best : )
@@IntotheBlueSimulations: My friend, I am now sticking 3 point landings in the Corsair thanks to you! My wheel landings are much better too, but if you come in real slow and stall it onto all three wheels it just STICKS! No wing tip, no veering, no bouncing. The Corsair is fun again!
That’s awesome Reason! Comments like this really make my day haha. I try to champion the hobby here on the channel and there’s nothing more satisfying than helping someone learn / enjoy their simming that little bit more. Happy flying and all the best! : )
Great video, as usual. Thanks. Unique plane with the gull wings - an unmistakable profile. It's a bit of a handful, but as with everything, practise makes perfect. Pity we can't try landing it on a carrier with a pitching deck! Still amazed that Midway is so small yet holds such a strategic place. Is that default MSFS? It looks like a period version, with WW2 planes, jeeps etc.
Thanks very much once again AS, I’m glad you enjoyed it! I can only Imagine trying to land the MILVIZ Corsair on a pitching deck would end in complete disaster, but I’d still be keen to try haha XD As Joe very kindly points out (thanks Joe!), its a freeware scenery available from Flightsim.to, with a link in the video description (should you wish to try it for yourself). It’s great having some period sceneries in the sim (there’s one of Wake Island also) for these sorts of historic aircraft. Cheers! : )
Sadly yes. It’s starting to show at this point as well. . . I know MILVIZ / Blackbird are very busy, but it would be shame if the Corsair doesn’t see any more love from them. . . All the best! : )
Love those kinds of Videos! Would be amazing to see more of you doing some touch an goes on some other popular GA Aircraft, so we can maybe learn something about it!
Hi Alfder, I’m thinking I’ll probably do exactly that with the Just Flight Tomahawk (when it comes out) and yes, I might look at some other aircraft also, as the format is quite fun to record haha. In the mean time though, if that’s the sort of things you’re after: ruclips.net/video/P6PE9gkdXgc/видео.html ; ) I’m really glad you enjoyed the flight. Thanks once again!
Thanks very much Byron, I’m really glad you enjoyed the video! Yes, the tailwheel should be locked for the takeoff and the landing. I do hope you enjoy the Corsair! Happy flying and all the best : )
Great video. I’d love to know what you do to stop the wing drop on landing which I just don’t seem to be able to avoid, whatever I do. More practice needed I guess.
I was getting a wing strike anytime I'd touch the rudder. I'm getting better since seeing this video. Once the wheels are down, you need VERY TINY rudder inputs and VERY TINY stick inputs to correct the wing drop. I'm still not good at it though.
Hi Nappa, Thanks very much, I’m glad you enjoyed it! I certainly do suffer the same issues with the Corsair (she’s more than happy to drop a wing), but I find I can just about counter the aircraft’s behaviour, if I use a specific technique. I run over said technique briefly at the end of the video, but essentially once the aircraft has settled onto the runway, I use full backstick - this helps to keep the tailwheel down, which in turn helps to keep the aircraft tracking straight. In terms of wing drop, I find that minimal correction is best (though some will most likely be required). I aim to null out any wing drop as soon as I see / “feel” it coming and try to make the smallest input / correction that I can (otherwise one tends to end up inducing a wing drop anyway). I basically try and keep the controls centred as much as possible and any rudder input that I make, I simultaneously follow up with aileron. The Corsair is a bit of a dog in terms of its ground handling currently, but with a bit of practice, she can be finessed somewhat ; ) I hope that helps a little. All the best! : )
Haha, well that’s as good a reason as any CC! At least the addon will help get you up to speed with the Corsair’s systems etc. I’ve kind of come at things from the other angle myself; I wasn’t too bothered about the DCS F4U, but I’d be quite tempted now, having enjoyed the FG-1D in MSFS. All the best! : )
@@IntotheBlueSimulations after spending time with it the physics seem a little off in how the aircraft handles. But you mentioned something about sim update11 so I’m also now waiting on that fix😂🤌but the cockpit alone was the deciding factor on why I bought the Milvitz Corsair. Truly spectacular work
Happy New Year sir! What a fun revisit, I really like the Mil-Viz FG1-D and the challenges it presents. When I first loaded the bird two years ago I could barely get it off the ground. Now it is quite enjoyable after the update although, there a few things I would love to see addressed in a possible future update. Nice job with your landings on T&G's. For this A/C I always do a wheel landing which I use after reviewing real world pilot procedures when they fly these old-time beasts and flying the A2A P-51D. On roll-out I almost always get a wing drop and drag as soon as the airplane settles back on the tail wheel. I will work on flap settings and more of a three-point attitude for flare and landing as this seems to be a good solution. My biggest gripe with the FG1-D is the sounds of the R-2800 are lovely in flight but the start-up sounds are pretty subdued and don't seem accurate. I also notice the CHT always drops way down when I start to close the cowl flaps up. This is at climb MP and seems off too. There also does not seem to be a real model for a constant speed prop. Of course, I have never flow a real Corsair and maybe these things are modeled accurately. Great review as always and thanks for taking the old "Ensign Eliminator" out for a spin. Wishing you the best for 2023!
Happy New Year Andy! I hope you had a great Christmas and that 2023 has gotten off to a good start. Yes, the FG-1D has had (and continues to have) its ups and downs, but the addon has always provided a tonne of fun and a nice challenge in my opinion. I always find wheel landings really tricky in MSFS, especially in terms of directional control - I shall have to put some more practice and give them another go ; ) Wing drop is certainly an issue with the Corsair currently (unrealistically so I would surmise). I find 3-point landings, back on the stick once you touch down (getting that tailwheel down, helps keep the aircraft straight) and then minimal control inputs thereafter (some input will be needed, but it’s very easy to over-control and actually induce the wing drop also) - I basically end up holding the stick with a death grip haha. The Corsair certainly does have a number of issues at this point. In fairness to “Blackbird”, some of these issues crept in as a result of previous sim updates, but it would certainly be nice to see the FG-1D get some more love from them, the aircraft deserves it! Thanks again and likewise - wishing you all the best for 2023! : )
This aircraft has always exhibited weird traits even before newer sim updates. It would be great if publishers went back and re modeled the flight models to take advantage of MSFS's newer prop/physics features etc. This one would be well worth an update.
Very true Andy. To be fair, MILVIZ did fix up a lot of the aircraft’s worst behaviours (that the addon exhibited on release) and the FG-1D was briefly in a pretty nice state overall. The product has never been perfect though and more recent sim updates certainly haven’t helped. It would indeed be great to see MILVIZ give the Corsair the new CFD treatment, perhaps some custom ground physics also (like the FlyingIron Hellcat) - the aircraft definitely deserves it! Cheers, all the best! : )
Well done and an entertaining, well considered video as always! I fly the Corsair in the sim and must say she seems much of her ground/takeoff/landing behavior I can only imagine has it’s origin in the extremely unrealistic responsiveness all aircraft display on the ground in the sim. I would think the first thing to get right if your creating a flight sim is the way a plane handles on the way to/from being airborne. Here’s hoping MS/Asobo get their hands around ground-handling in the near future.
DCS does it best when it comes to groundhandling with taildraggers. This one and the Hellcat are the only taildraggers in msfs coming close to this and react in a similar way. So I dont think its that far off. Of course one can allways improof things.
Hi Kirt, Thanks very much, I’m really glad you enjoyed the video! The takeoff / landing behaviour of the Corsair is indeed rather “peculiar” at the moment (although broadly improved, as compared with the aircraft upon release). As I understand it, Asobo are actually aware of what causes the strange ground handling within the sim, it just seems to be a question of them having the time / impetus to fix it. As Marcel alludes to, the FlyingIron Hellcat uses a custom ground handling model and the aircraft’s behaviour is much improved (so clearly this sort of thing can be modelled in MSFS). As you say, fingers crossed for the future! Cheers and all the best : )
Hi Oifel, It’s been a while since I last flew the Corsair and the flight model also got a recent update, actually. From memory, you do get a fair amount of torque roll during the takeoff, but I don’t recall there being any particularly noticeable behaviour during flight. I don’t have the addon installed at the moment and haven’t had a chance to see how the updated flight model behaves. . . I hope that helps a little. All the best!
Well thanks very much Rahhnman, very kind of you to say! I was pretty happy with the landings overall (given that it’s been a while), but I always like to try and land without a bump haha. I’m glad you found the video enjoyable to watch and perhaps even learnt a thing or two along the way. Much appreciated, all the best to you! : )
On The MSFS forums the Milviz dev has confirmed a service pack is inbound for the Corsair. I bought it last night and the wing drop on take off and landing is destroying me. You made it look much easier than it is tbh.
Someone else mentioned the same to me recently Gary, very much looking forward to that! I love the Corsair, but the flight model is certainly overdue an update (the wing drop is just about manageable, but makes the aircraft way harder to fly than it ought to be and therefore takes some fun out of the whole process also). In the mean time, this video might be of a little bit of use (it’s not a tutorial, but just shows control inputs during the takeoff / landing, in order to try and counter the wing drop): ruclips.net/video/bxiva9LeXAw/видео.html Cheers for the heads up! Happy flying and all the best : )
Great job as always! The last landing was great, especially considering you hadn't flown it in a while. The Corsair is my absolute favorite in MSFS, and certainly quite a handful on landing. I thought I finally was consistent with it after about 10 landings, did a video with it and messed up the landing completely...oh well. I hope Milviz/Blackbird will still bring the Skyraider to MSFS, their quality is top notch.
Thanks very much VS! I was pretty happy with my last attempt overall and it’s always good to end on a high (it can easily turn south pretty quickly, as you allude to haha). I think the FG-1D is perhaps unrealistically tricky to fly at the moment, but it’s great fun nevertheless! I believe the Skyraider is still on the table - I certainly hope so as well. I flew the MILVIZ Skyraider in P3D a handful of times and boy was it fun - noisy also haha! Cheers once again and all the best : )
@@IntotheBlueSimulations I think you're right about it being a bit to tricky at the moment. If I remember correctly, Steve Hinton said about the Corsair, that it's easy to fly, but hard to fly well. I fondly remember watching your video of the Skyraider flying through the Mach Loop =) My old PC couldn't run P3D, so I went right from FSX to MSFS and haven't had the pleasure to try it yet. I'm really looking forward to it. All the best =)
Nice video! I have the Corsair in MSFS and had already gave up on it, because its strange tendency to roll whilst taking off and landing. I'll follow the tips shown here ans see if they work.
Thanks very much SD, I’m glad you enjoyed it! The Corsair’s behaviour is indeed a bit bizarre currently (I think the addon could do with an update), but taking off and landing is just about possible, using certain techniques and a bit of practice : ) Happy flying and all the best!
Yeah, perhaps not quite the right technique on my part Mike. I like to try and go for a 3-point landing (at least in MSFS, where it’s the only option that really works) and it’s very tricky to do that without holding the aircraft off (also, flaring is a bit of a force of habit haha). Guess I’ll have to get a bit more practice in then ; ) Cheers as always!
Great vid as allways. Love this bird. A very wide and shallow approach. I have seen rl videos of warbirds doing a steeper and more curved approach do be able to see over the nose and have the threshold in view . Or the flightdeck. What is the best technic?
Cheers Marcel, I’m glad you enjoyed the video! : ) I believe it was common practice for carrier-based Corsairs to fly a curved approach (to help keep sight of the deck). I flew a wide approach just to give myself some breathing room haha and the shallow approach angle was just force of habit really (I think I had the seating position somewhat higher than would be realistic, so visibility over the nose wasn’t really an issue in this case). Certainly if the real guys are flying steeper / curved approaches, that’s probably the way to go ; ) Thanks again, all the best!
Great Video! It is interesting you do not seem to get the simulated tyre blow out effect when landing and just before coming to a stop, it veers off to the left and right and contacts a wing on the ground normally. I found waggling the ailerons left to right whilst pulling back on the stick seems to stop this for a more stable full stop. What is your advice?
Hi AI, Thanks very much, I’m really glad you enjoyed it! I was one of the commenters on other videos and was pleasantly surprised to wake up to this video. Back when the WW2 carriers mod was still maintained, I had a lot of fun with the Corsair module, despite all it's flaws. Might I recommend Barakoma airfield in the Solomon Islands for most appropriate Corsair scenery? There used to be a few custom WW2 sceneries for the Solomons and a couple Barakomas, but now it looks like there is just one. While I'm sure Corsairs passed through Midway, the Solomons are where they saw most of their use as their original intent of an air-to-air fighter, so I always think Solomons when I think Corsair.
Hi Joshua, I’m glad you enjoyed it! Yours / other comments on the other video, inspired me to give the FG-1D another shot. As you say, the addon definitely has a lot of flaws at this point, but it’s still jolly good fun. That sounds like a great scenery suggestion (I wasn’t aware it existed). It’s nice to use period sceneries for these sorts of flights. I will have to check it out, thanks! Cheers and all the best : )
Hey i've been watching your videos and your reviews, this is one of my favorite aircrafts, and i love the WW2 setting, how do you get Wake Island so detailed and with all the WW2 vehicles like that? Amazing flying definatly can tell your a fellow aviator as of myself! great job!
Hi Lexie, The Wake Island scenery is available from Flightsim.to (there’s a link in the video description) and there is another, similar scenery for Midway also. Certainly the perfect setting in which to fly this beautiful warbird : ) Thanks very much for the kind words, throughly appreciated. All the best to you!
@@IntotheBlueSimulations You're very welcome! Glad to see fellow aviators enjoying one of our greatest achievements! Keep on kicking the tires and lighting the fires.
Hi Robert, FlyingIron are indeed a great dev (one of my favourites in fact) and make some truly excellent products for MSFS : ) MILVIZ have been a bit slow with updates at times but, in fairness, the Corsair was updated again very recently. Cheers, all the best!
Hi AN, I presume you’re after the EGPWS Warning checklist? It might depend on the age of the FCOM’s you’re using, but you should find the checklist under; “Procedures” - “Abnormal and Emergency Procedures” - “SURV”. The same checklist may be in your QRH, but the procedure is a memory item, so it was ultimately removed from ours. I hope that helps? All the best : )
Hello Jason, If you click on the pilot’s chart board (somewhat hidden away at the bottom of the main instrument panel), that will open the map / payload manager (so long as the engine isn’t running). You can enable / disable the drop tanks (amongst other things) from there. I hope that helps? All the best! : )
Now wouldn’t that be great. . . Sadly I don’t think it will ever happen though, at least not in MSFS. Perhaps one day we’ll see the Combat Flight Simulator franchise revived, but there doesn’t seem to be any indications of that happening thus far. One can certainly hope though! Cheers : )
Hi Ardy, There’s maybe a little bit of that coming into play (although the same happens on landing also), but primarily I think there is currently an issue with the flight model. Even the most minor of rudder inputs, the aircraft will naturally want to tip over onto a wing. This behaviour didn’t used to be an issue with the MILVIZ Corsair, so I’m assuming one of the more recent sim updates has impacted the addon negatively. I hope that clarifies things a little. All the best! : )
I am looking to download the Simulator, and am wondering: - Does the Corsair automatically come with the game, or is it a DLC? - I'm using an unclassified, archived version of the Bureau of Aeronautics' flight/operation manual. Will this work? (Issued 1945)
Hi ATDP, Apologies for the slow reply: The MILVIZ / Blackbird Corsair is a payware addon (it does not come included with the sim). The MILVIZ FG-1D is not 100% accurate but, I would imagine that the product has enough fidelity, that you could use a real-world manual to operate the aircraft (hopefully, you can get some idea from the video, as to how accurately the addon behaves vs what’s included in your manual). If you want a highly accurate Corsair simulation, DCS is probably your better bet; the core DCS sim is free to download and there is a payware Corsair due to arrive in the sim this year, I believe. I hope that helps a little? All the best : )
Oh gosh, I’m very sorry to hear that you’ve been caught up in everything. I do hope that you’re keeping well and that things will return to normal as soon as possible. I’m really glad you enjoyed the video, despite everything else that’s going on. Wishing you all the best!
In real life you no longer had to hear the Ensigns complain about this birds handling because they eliminated themselves, lol. Here in 2023 we get to hear the whining about the handling ad nauseum, lol.
Hi Mitchel, Do you mean to say that you thought I was whining haha? If so, I don’t believe that was the case haha. I was commenting on the handling, sure, but only because the Corsair is a tricky beast to fly (especially before MILVIZ patched it) and I know others were struggling with the aircraft, so I was simply trying to offer some pointers : ) All the best!
Thank you for your answer. It is very detailed. I'm struggling with this bird, but I'll resume my training on it.

The Corsair can indeed be a right handful at times (unrealistically so I would surmise), but that’s part of the aircraft’s fun-factor for me haha. That being said, hopefully MILVIZ will update the addon at some point, such that it doesn’t bite quite so hard when mishandled XD

Hi Cleetus,
Whilst the Corsair has never been perfect, the addon has seen better days.
As a big fan of ww2 warbirds I really appreciate and enjoy your presentations. Thanks lots!
Thanks very much once again, Art! I should have another warbird coming up for you shortly, then ; )
My pleasure and all the best!
You are the greatest Corsair sim pilot in history! Bravo. Nobody I know can get a decent landing in this plane. Though I am getting better since you showed me it IS possible. Thank you!
Haha, thanks very much once again Reason! ; )
I’m glad the video inspired you to give things another go and that the landings have steadily been improving. Hopefully MILVIZ will update the product at some point and then we won’t all have to be Chuck Yeager to land the thing XD
You’re most welcome!
He has a link to the Midway mod on FS.TO in the video description.
Thanks very much once again AS, I’m glad you enjoyed it! I can only Imagine trying to land the MILVIZ Corsair on a pitching deck would end in complete disaster, but I’d still be keen to try haha XD
As Joe very kindly points out (thanks Joe!), its a freeware scenery available from Flightsim.to, with a link in the video description (should you wish to try it for yourself). It’s great having some period sceneries in the sim (there’s one of Wake Island also) for these sorts of historic aircraft.
Cheers! : )
soon two years without updates:)
Hi Alfder,
I’m thinking I’ll probably do exactly that with the Just Flight Tomahawk (when it comes out) and yes, I might look at some other aircraft also, as the format is quite fun to record haha. In the mean time though, if that’s the sort of things you’re after: ruclips.net/video/P6PE9gkdXgc/видео.html ; )
I’m really glad you enjoyed the flight. Thanks once again!
Great video! I just picked up this Beauty can’t wait to in the air! Should you keep the wheel locked for landings as well? 🤔
@@reason6835 Thanks for the tip - I just need practice.
Hi Nappa,
Thanks very much, I’m glad you enjoyed it!
The Corsair is a bit of a dog in terms of its ground handling currently, but with a bit of practice, she can be finessed somewhat ; )
I hope that helps a little. All the best! : )
I will admit I am playing this module in MSFS because I can’t wait any longer for the F4U in DCS
I always find wheel landings really tricky in MSFS, especially in terms of directional control - I shall have to put some more practice and give them another go ; )
Wing drop is certainly an issue with the Corsair currently (unrealistically so I would surmise).
I’d also love it if milviz would add a EFB tablet to this aircraft like they do with there newer add-ons
I think the Milviz Corsair is currently my favourite aircraft in MSFS.
The FG-1D is certainly a barrel of fun! I’m glad you’re still enjoying it as well Lee. Happy flying and all the best : )
Hi Kirt,
Thanks very much, I’m really glad you enjoyed the video!
Is the torque roll simulated when you apply to much power to quickly?
Hi Oifel,
It’s been a while since I last flew the Corsair and the flight model also got a recent update, actually.
I would have been perfectly happy with each of your landings. You are very skilled, so a good watch and learn for me.
My favorite badass warbird!🤩
Another Spot on Video Thank You
Cheers Mike! I’m glad you enjoyed it. I have to say, it was good fun just bashing around the traffic pattern in the Corsair haha. All the best : )
Many thanks again, just released on the console.
You’re most welcome CP, brilliant! Enjoy “taming the beast” then haha. All the best : )
In the mean time, this video might be of a little bit of use (it’s not a tutorial, but just shows control inputs during the takeoff / landing, in order to try and counter the wing drop):

Nice video! I have the Corsair in MSFS and had already gave up on it, because its strange tendency to roll whilst taking off and landing. I'll follow the tips shown here ans see if they work.
Thanks very much SD, I’m glad you enjoyed it!
The Corsair’s behaviour is indeed a bit bizarre currently (I think the addon could do with an update), but taking off and landing is just about possible, using certain techniques and a bit of practice : )
Happy flying and all the best!
Theres nothing better than a good old radial
hmmm one doesn't realy flare in a tail dragger more like what they say is to fly it unto the runway is what I have been taught
Yeah, perhaps not quite the right technique on my part Mike. I like to try and go for a 3-point landing (at least in MSFS, where it’s the only option that really works) and it’s very tricky to do that without holding the aircraft off (also, flaring is a bit of a force of habit haha). Guess I’ll have to get a bit more practice in then ; )
Cheers as always!
@@IntotheBlueSimulations ahhh i will also try this 3 point procedure of which you speak due to good ol msn hmmm
I believe it was common practice for carrier-based Corsairs to fly a curved approach (to help keep sight of the deck). I flew a wide approach just to give myself some breathing room haha and the shallow approach angle was just force of habit really (I think I had the seating position somewhat higher than would be realistic, so visibility over the nose wasn’t really an issue in this case). Certainly if the real guys are flying steeper / curved approaches, that’s probably the way to go ; )
Thanks again, all the best!
Hi AI,

Hi Joshua,
I’m glad you enjoyed it!

Hi Lexie,
The Wake Island scenery is available from Flightsim.to (there’s a link in the video description) and there is another, similar scenery for Midway also. Certainly the perfect setting in which to fly this beautiful warbird : )

Hi Robert,
FlyingIron are indeed a great dev (one of my favourites in fact) and make some truly excellent products for MSFS : )
MILVIZ have been a bit slow with updates at times but, in fairness, the Corsair was updated again very recently.

Hi AN,
I presume you’re after the EGPWS Warning checklist? It might depend on the age of the FCOM’s you’re using, but you should find the checklist under; “Procedures” - “Abnormal and Emergency Procedures” - “SURV”. The same checklist may be in your QRH, but the procedure is a memory item, so it was ultimately removed from ours.
I hope that helps? All the best : )

Hello Jason,
If you click on the pilot’s chart board (somewhat hidden away at the bottom of the main instrument panel), that will open the map / payload manager (so long as the engine isn’t running). You can enable / disable the drop tanks (amongst other things) from there.

if only Asobo made a WW2 combat mod ...

Wing drop due to torque?
Hi Ardy,
There’s maybe a little bit of that coming into play (although the same happens on landing also), but primarily I think there is currently an issue with the flight model.
How about closing the Cowl Flaps.
I am looking to download the Simulator, and am wondering:
- Does the Corsair automatically come with the game, or is it a DLC?
- I'm using an unclassified, archived version of the Bureau of Aeronautics' flight/operation manual. Will this work? (Issued 1945)
Hi ATDP,
Apologies for the slow reply: The MILVIZ / Blackbird Corsair is a payware addon (it does not come included with the sim).
Not a problem!!! Thanks a ton! I was looking at DCS as well, and now I have my answer. Again, Thanks!@@IntotheBlueSimulations

In real life you no longer had to hear the Ensigns complain about this birds handling because they eliminated themselves, lol. Here in 2023 we get to hear the whining about the handling ad nauseum, lol.
Hi Mitchel,
Do you mean to say that you thought I was whining haha? If so, I don’t believe that was the case haha. I was commenting on the handling, sure, but only because the Corsair is a tricky beast to fly (especially before MILVIZ patched it) and I know others were struggling with the aircraft, so I was simply trying to offer some pointers : )
