  • This is my COVID-19 Quarantine DIY project! It's not exactly horse related, but it kind of is. I turned at 100 gallon stock water tank into a patio pond! I've kept fish in aquariums before, so this is like a big aquarium for me. I will update you guys on this project later in the summer, but so far, I have a stock tank, a sponge filter, lots of water plants, mosquito fish and 5 baby Ranchu fancy goldfish! I ordered the goldfish off of Amazon, which was kind of a gamble, but they arrived in great shape, and are thriving! Please comment and let me know if you have any questions about the setup, or if you want to see more about my mini patio pond out of a stock water tank!
Some of the products I use are listed below:
    Water conditioner: amzn.to/2VJjFI2
    Goldfish food: amzn.to/2AwJZxY
    Sponge Filter: amzn.to/3gBbO7N
    Air Pump: amzn.to/31Hfssl
    Ranchu Goldfish: amzn.to/2C5kzaS

I used a 300 gl rubbermaid stock tank pt in the ground and a koi pond out of it then made a beach around it. really nice to come home to.

Beautiful!!! Your patio pond looks like a refreshing project. It is great to see your steps from start to finish. I love the underwater segments, felt like I was watching the Animal Planet. My pandemic projects involve refreshing small outdoor spaces (near the horse paddock) with native plants and a variety of bird feeders for optimal environmental enjoyment for us humans in lock down, and our beautiful feathered friends. Nature is such a calming element in times of stress.

Thanks!! So glad you enjoyed the video! Yes, these projects are so important! Optimizing outdoor space is so satisfying too. Now more than ever, we need to engage in self care and make sure we’re working on stuff that brings us joy.

Thanks! I actually brought them in as I had a huge bullfrog take up residence! Kept my mosquito fish in there though. Ended up tearing it all down since we moved and I couldn’t set it up in our new yard. Have fun with your 150!

Awesome! I had to move and tear it down, and I miss it! Would love to start another, but I think we will have to move again in another year or so.

I brought the Ranchus in due to a giant bull frog taking up residence! Also, had to move, so I broke it down. Our new place has a lawn service, and they occasionally spray round up 🤮, so I don’t want to set it up here. Miss it!!

Thank you! I’m so behind on videos at the moment. Sadly, I lost one ranchu . Had an enormous bull frog move in, so I moved them inside to an aquarium. Pond did well with the mosquito fish, and even had some lilies bloom. Had to get creative with shade though too!

Brought the Goldie’s inside due to a giant bull frog and had to move, so broke the tank down. Can’t set it up where I’m currently at. Such a fun project though! I miss it!

I have substrate in the 100 gal stock tank just some sand and river pebbles. Do you think I would ever need a pond pump or canister filter or just the sponge filter ? Also could you please link the filter you got and how many?

Check the description for links to the gear I use. I think it all depends on how you’re going to stock your pond and also how much maintenance you’re willing to do. My best advice is to check out some patio pond Facebook groups. Tons of advice and ideas there! Have fun, and thanks for dropping a comment!
