Fantastic!! I gave all my aquariums to my son and now will have some sort of outside container garden full of fish. This is very inspiring. Thank you!!
It is, but we wanted to plant in the corners. Also, the builder didn't follow the drawing we gave him. It was supposed to be just wide enough to fit the round tank in. The long tanks were supposed to sit on the wall. Instead of exterior dimensions of 10 feet square he made the interior dimensions 10 feet. When I got back from a 3-day weekend it was already done. :(
The 24" depth helps as does the shade from the water lilies. There's also a 50% shade cloth suspended overhead. Even without the shade cloth the depth and water lilies would be enough. Our tank is also surrounded by soil and plants which also helps. Were this tank out in full sun, with the metal exposed to the sun, then we'd have a serious problem and the fish would most likely overheat and die.
You'll need a tamp (tamper) to pack the dirt/soil. If it's loose, the tank will shift when it's full of water and won't be level. You can find them at any big box store: www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-51-in-Steel-Handle-8-in-x-8-in-Tamper-77335-949/315067860 -- Tamp down the higher end and/or move soil to the lower end.
They're called Suction Strainers (or sometimes "banjos" - like the musical instrument). You'll have to hunt for ones over 2" in diameter. Here's one source: webbsonline.com/Category/Suction-Strainers ---- Dickson Brothers in Mesquite, TX has lots of sizes in stock and is where I got mine. www.dicksonbrothers.com/
Love the sense of humor even though it wasn’t what you wanted. As they say “Live and learn” ❤

Thank you VERY much for all the information. The ponds look great
That wall looks strong enough to just line with pond liner.

Rubbermaid stock tanks are the best for this type of project.

How do you manage the Texas heat with goldfish in the pond?

If the water originates from a 16' deep pond it is probably much cooler than it otherwise wood be, I imagine.
How did you level the dirt that the main tank sits on? I'm setting my 8' stock tank right now, but all I have is a flat shovel and a rock rake!

@@ShadesofGreenTX thank you!
By chance with your bog filter did you end up having to design a drain/flush for it?
@@mrtarango32 We did not, and so far it hasn't been an issue. In a year or two, we might need to do a cleanout, but so far so good.

Please post your video. We would love to see how it is supposed to be done
