From my understanding on why the iPhone 14 lineup and older can’t reuse old parts is the management chip integrated into the part that stores the calibration is not a usual flash chip and instead burns the calibration information onto the chip. The internet connection requirement does make some sense as Apple is probably reading an EEPROM on the replacement part, linking that to the serial number of the phone, and then linking the new hardware configuration to the user's iCloud account. The hardware configurations and new part IDs (or a key used to verify if a given part ID came from a trusted manufacturer by using cryptography) are probably then stored on an Apple database so that another phone will know if a part has been paired with another account and is therefore stolen. Maybe certain parts have cryptographic features and store one-time readable cryptographic keys that are then used to encrypt and decrypt information used by FaceID and other systems (though I don't know why they would do this since all the camera and sensor data should be processed on the motherboard without the sensors storing anything special). One-time-readable cryptographic keys would make part pairing completely necessary though, since by replacing a part, you would need to have the motherboard read the new key and store it for crytographic functions between the motherboard and the new part to work. I'm not Apple though, so these are just my thoughts.

Pairing no. You’ll have the unable to verify message, but you’ll see health % data. Or if you’re a pro in repairs you can do it the old way by swapping the battery flex to the new battery cell.
I think there should be a middle ground, where Apple has a standard similar to the Made For iPhone standard they use for chargers to ensure part quality is satisfactory. The phone should be able to automatically ping a database that can verify a replacement part is MFI or Apple Genuine without needing to pair or do anything other than turn the device on.

Hello, where can I buy a battery compatible with repair assistant?
I have an iPhone 12 pro with a used screen and have the option to pair it to my phone
Apple has finally been humbled enough through court and law to actually do the right thing.
gotta love that Apple does the absolute bare minimum, kicking and screaming the whole way and people praise them for it.
Is the third party battery life feature only available on newer models? My iPhone 11 Pro Max still works perfect, so I’m really looking for swapping the battery. Will this new update show the percentage to me?
your 11 pro max should get the battery health regardless the "unknown part" message
not sure what do you mean with just 15 and up. paired a ip 12 battery just fine
i have iphone 12 pro max running 18.1
auto brightness working
face id working
trutone was back in ios 18.1
in repari assistant under display it says this part is not functioning as expected when i tap to continue it say unable to configured.
it dont show this part is geniune green mark in repair assistant where after market screen show it my dont why??
Can I just clarify something as I’m a bit slow ha,,, if I change my battery in my iPhone 13 pro max and the iPhone also has the latest IOS update , can I see the new batteries health status like I could with original battery? I’ve seen a few videos stating battery health is unavailable, but is this video saying it’s possible now with the latest IOS update and third party battery percentage ? Thanks in advance
Will this work on an old XR? I want to get a new battery for it. it's at 78%
Pairing no. You’ll have the unable to verify message, but you’ll see health % data. Or if you’re a pro in repairs you can do it the old way by swapping the battery flex to the new battery cell.
i knew its too good to be true, just when i thought things get better and there you go
When will the pairing bs be removed (except face id, because 3rd party face id sensors aren't a great idea)
Used ones should be allowed
@@babascustomlegocreations8837if not stolen
I think there should be a middle ground, where Apple has a standard similar to the Made For iPhone standard they use for chargers to ensure part quality is satisfactory. The phone should be able to automatically ping a database that can verify a replacement part is MFI or Apple Genuine without needing to pair or do anything other than turn the device on.
@@pushatsinfrared that wouldn't be good for the consumer, bit for apple because it would bring tgem revenue
Also why can i repair any android phone and the only paired thing is the fingerprint scanner (not always even)
@@babascustomlegocreations8837 yes, 1st party face ud scanners should be allowed (used too), but not 3rd party because it can be unsafe
Hi hugh❤
Hey Hugh, I repair devices too and I think you made a mistake on with devices support the repair assistant. I recently replaced an iPhone 13 screen with an OEM part with flex and everything worked perfectly. True Tone, auto brightness and Face ID. The caveat, like you said, is the screen must have the original sensor flex
and so, if i take a display pulled from another iphone 14 pro and put it on my iphone 14 pro would work without problems brightness sensor, faceID and true tone?
Does this work on iphone 12 pro max on ios18.1? Does it have on repair assistant?
Id rather have this than what we had a few years ago, however, Id prefer this go much further than it already has, we need to keep sounding the alarm, otherwise it'll be like this forever
Good video sharing
it worked for me on iphone 12pro max, screen and battery...
Assistent doesn't work on iPhone 11 pro, bought a pulled display and still shows up as an unknown part, even the battery, but fortunately no pop up battery exists 🎉
hai,
i was wondering if u can make any vid on how to start with phone repairing and what bare essentials u might need? maybe u alrdy have that vid up in wich case ignore this.
am a huge samsung fan and i would like to restore some older ones i bought (note 7 and FE and note 8) for my collection on display. if i get the hang of it i wouldnt mind buying one now and then to see if i can make a extra penny out of it as a hobby.
I got a screen replacement and the pair message has come up for months but it always errors and says can’t connect to the server
Super sharp video
Does this work with lidar repair
Is repair assistant on MacBooks?
hey just a update you can swap part from iphone 13 and up with the newest ios update
Can you do this with a MacBook screen ?
Actually even iPhone 13 can have used genuine parts programmed using repair assistant and with no issues even with activation lock on. The only issue is with the lost mode being activated, but when only activation lock is on with clean mode, then there should be no issues.
If you were a bodybuilder you would be “Huge Jeffereys”
if part is sold and the phone is locked after what happens then?
has apple released the board schematics for iphones?
I have a Iphone 15 pro max so meaning I can repair it myself and not have to worry abotu activation lock but mine is with applecare so it dosent really matter
Repair Assistant: Looks like a Parts Activator to me. Like activating a software after put in a serial number.
I'm very curious to see how this will affect the refurbished screen market. Them being marked non genuine was already an issue, but now I'm wondering if they will have additional locks coming from an activated device. The definition of activation lock is quite important here, is Apple only referring to reset devices on the activation lock screen or any device with find my iPhone on? What happens if a part is initially from a device without activation lock, but gets locked in the future?
I replaced my 12 pro max battery with a genuine part about a year ago and with iOS 18 repair assistant it showed as a genuine part and I got my battery health back. No caveats
I was able to put a genuine battery for iPhone 14 Pro and it worked
I installed the used rear camera module on my 12promax back in 2021, and I have paired it on Dec 24th 2024 after updated my 12promax to the iOS18.2.
You can buy a brand new phone not turn it on and swap the parts and they show up as brand new not used.
Confirmed with iPhone 12 mini
yeah more digital microscope sir
I have obtain a iphone 5s from a yard sell and it's locked from the find my phone
And I've been wondering how you unlock your devices when fixing them or do you just give up on there
He uses a series of methods such as hooking in his own active SIM card and asking Siri to phone commonly named contacts based on how he evaluates their wallpaper like “Brother” or “Bestie” to let someone closest know of the situation regarding who it belongs to. I believe if you can deduce the iOS version, there are a series of bugs you can perform that can be used to workaround the lock and access their contacts since it’s closely paired to the phone calling
@damian9303 but I'm not sure witch program that he prefer and I actually think it's locked to t-mobile also it's it's reset
“I replaced the iPhone 13 Pro screen with another genuine used one, and when I configure it and restart, it shows as a genuine display. However, when I restart and go to settings, it asks to configure again, it’s like a loop. Even auto-brightness is missing, but Face ID works and True Tone working, please help
This doesn’t work for all iPhones on iOS 18 right? Just the newer ones
This is the problem that I had for parts pairing especially for Screens, usually they swap the chip from the stolen part and message is gone from that.
So I have a 13 Pro Max I need to replace FaceID on...
Have you been able to swap parts in older phones and have FaceID actually work? I can't seem to get this to work -- I tried two iPhone 14s, and I didn't work at all.
Edit: Saw the Apple page on it. 15 and later. Wow. Thanks for reducing waste Apple -_-
So if I replace my battery on 13 pro max I will still get the annoying notification?
the world is healing.
Weird! My SE2 screen isn't even listed as a replacement part in the Parts & Service page, and True Tone is working now! (and this is a pretty poor replacement screen, the viewing angles are awful)
Apple is be becoming repair friendly before gta 6😂
I love being an android user.
Thats not true, i had paired my screen on my 12 pro. It was taken from another iphone with dead nand. Also it works for other parts and i will try to pair my battery, when it arrives
At least Apple is slowly transitioning away from anti-third party repair. I would like to see them fully transition to allow third party repair. I have a iPhone 11 and I want to replace the battery but I can’t because of IOS rejection of the new part or if my iPhone 11 will have the repair assistant then I will be so happy to finally repair my own phone without having to take it to Apple. I get that Apple takes security very seriously and I understand that they have to make money to bring more products to their customers. They can do it but without forcing their customers to upgrade their devices.
Good morning/afternoon/evening/night 🙌
Goodbye
The fact, that replacement parts need to come from a NOT iCloud-locked device, was not mentioned in your first video on this topic, which was a mistake IMHO. Thanks for clarifying it here.
I have a 14 pro and with ios 18.1 I replaced a genuine battery, which was calibrated and shows battery health. I also replaced my screen with a third party one that says unknown part but True Tone functions.
and the brightness sensor, too?
this is one of the few things the EU got right... a right to repair, and stuff that isn't just their proprietary items...and it's about time
