- Do you need to spend a lot of money to go offroading? We took the brand new 2020 Land Rover Defender and the latest Suzuki Jimny, two vehicles on opposite sides of the price spectrum, for spirited rive in the bush to see if you need to drop lots of cash to have serious fun.
Jimny for the win
Well it's certainly a winner at 1/3 the price of a Defender
I saw a new defender on the back of a tow truck on the high way and it's not even winter yet in Canada
Defenders aren't off-roaders anymore, now it's an SUV. We don't have to expect much from the vehicle, neither from someone who actually buys one of those.
Saw one on a car group im in being towed out of a small ditch by a santana anibal (basically a 2004 defender) and one being towed out of mild mud and it has the most unreliable engine ever thats why landys have a bad reputation for being unreliable where as an old 200 tdi or 19j can be left in a field for 30 years and start straight up
Im sorry but in a expedition you need a Japanese car
@@Andre-hi9xn toyota
@@Andre-hi9xn theres thousands of million kilometer toyota land cruisers in australia and south africa mate, mercedes aint shit, the fact that mercedes had to celebrate a 500000 mile car where in my country alone theres literally a million toyota sedans(vios and corolla) with equal miles
@@Andre-hi9xn i actually cant understand what you wrote, but i understand english is not your first language. Still, toyota > mercedes
@@Andre-hi9xn Buying a g-wagon for actual offroading and overland travels, LOOOOOOL. TOYOTA > MERCEDES
@@Andre-hi9xn my clan is old rich, man, my family has had so many mercs across my grandpa/maw and dad, we buy lexus or toyotas now since they don't leave you stranded while going to the polo club outside the city. Also MERCEDES QUALITY LOLS www.caradvice.com.au/131418/mercedes-benz-g-class-broken-by-the-australian-outback/
Offroad challenge? Jimny looks fun though for way less money.
Jimmy is brilliant it'll do everything the defender will do for a fraction of cost and with 99.99% reliability
In Australia they say if you want to go to the outback take a land rover BUT if want to get home as well take a Toyota Land Cruiser.
I was in the back of our friends land cruiser on the Mitchell Highway near Perth, Australia when the rear diff locked solid for a split second, any longer and it would have probably killed us all... they’ve had loads of issues with it, massive oil consumption and other problems!
I’ve driven my old Land Rover discovery 2 all over the uk and Europe including the artic circle and it’s performed just fine...and it’s never tried killing us!!
@@Andre-hi9xn ah yes the anicdoatal statistical analysis. Look at AVG km per fault minor or major .Then AVG km in life of vehicle .Then repair and maintenance cost. The land cruiser tops or comes second in those statistics.
@@Andre-hi9xn workshops are in dealerships... and there is so many because they sell the most cars, because they’re a durable body slapped on a indestructible ladder chassis with a powerful tractor like engine that just won’t quit.
Even my KZJ120 prado has 400,000km with only routine servicing.
@@Andre-hi9xn The many dealerships are to service the many many Toyota cars and off road ute's in Australia.
@@amkmkamamakami371 Anyone who thinks that a land rover is better than a landcruiser is plain ignorant.
Jimny all day
If I can afford a new defender, I'll have the Jimny as well.
These are two complete different vehicles which makes this an odd comparison. Independent air suspension vs live axle coil, small vs big, cheap vs expensive. The Jimny is true to its heritage (simple, small, cheap, reliable, capable) where the Defender is not.
The Jimny is easily the better, more exciting vehicle.
I also wouldn’t be taking the Defender anywhere near an expedition with all the electronics.
Yet people are comparing the Bronco to the Defender with no hesitation.
Jup you are right, but it is also the reason that the jimny can't be sold in Europ anymore and the defender can
@@vrolijk9865 The emission laws...
@@velikaplan8571 At less than a 3rd of the price do you really expect in to be better than the defender. At least the Jimny doesn't breakdown as much as any Land Rover. (Land Rover mechanics cant work on these cars so image breaking down in the middle of Africa ) If you wanted a proper 4x4 these just are not the right choice at all. The Defender is just a glorified mall crawler.
TFL’s 2 new defenders broke down before even reaching 1000 miles let that sink in
And the new Land rover Defender will break down a lot with all electronic stuff on board. Suzuki will go on for ever at low costs.
Duude, imma gonna steal you OFFENDER sticker!
Jimny for me thanks but that Defender is something else 👀
If I was offered either one for free, I’d take the Jimny (with a manual).
Where is the offroad compare?
This highway straight trail you call off road?
A grandpa in a wheelchair will finish this trail.
It's autotrader and the beer belly bru just wanted a lekker drive...
They don't want to tow the defender
Jimny is so light... Doesnt need big engine... Only skills...
We've got a Defender 90 and Jimny
Both vehicles are highly competent but the Jimny is definitely more fun. The Defender is a fabulous vehicle but it's a bit TOO posh really, it's a shame they didn't do a "Utility" version with plastic door trims, less tech (even my base spec 90 Commercial has loads of things that you don't really need) and steel wheels.
The only issue with the Jimny is the size, it is quite small, although it's surprising what you can fit in the back with the seats down.
you can park the jimny every where and that is the number one argument for chose him
If I was to chose between these 2,I'd go the Jimny then spend the rest of $$ on mods to make it even more better and still have a lot of money left.
Jimny is super reliable and cheap and easy to fix, the other one the less I say the better.
Suzuki. Please bring this Jimny to the US.
The ideal offroader would be a Defender on coilsprings and a manual gearbox with the Terrain Response system IMO.
I’ll take the Jimny on a heart beat!👌🥰👉♥️👍
Liking the Jimny much more.
lack of video for the cars in action
The cheaper 3 door Defender 90 would make a better comparison to the Jimny , they are both fun , but the Land Rover is far more versatile in every way , it is also much safer and practical with far better performance and refinement , you can take the whole family on long road trips in comfort unlike the Jimny that bounces around over really rough terrain , it may be good off-road but is fairly poor on-road as the speed increases , were it will be over 90% of the time !.
Or just get a Land Cruiser
and for 4 times the cost of a jimny pack edition xD
Actually the Jimny is better than you think on the road, we've done 11,000 miles in ours and no complaints, so long as you set the cruise control at 65mph and don't expect to join the high speed Audi/BMW/Mercedes trains in the outside lane
Too much talk and too little substance on this video. Not even informative, is a waste of time to be honest.
If I have to go to places far away from civilization, I would have more confident to drive the Jimny than to drive the "multicomputer controlled" Defender...
Jimny its a grear 4x4 but it have a big problem whit rust under chasis... 😒
No challenge at all. Don’t loose your time.
I'm sorry but these guys don't sound genuine. They speak like it's a script or like cartoons even. I thought it was the drag race of last week. These guys are dramatic. Wish they spoke like they would on a normal day
Exactly 😂
Rover these days actually the real trail heading to a workshop because it is what its made for. Belong to their own ‘nature’
The Defender, the breakdown cover is standard... for life.
None of these guys seem to know about off-roading tbh. I reckon that the darien couldn't be done with a defender, or anything without tracks. Also, please don't take your new defender to the bushes of Africa, no mechanic in Uganda will have a spare computer module lying around.
Sorry but these guys should do cartoon voiceovers
yo, the guy in black have abs as well, A BIG STOMACH😅😅😅
Trouble is you can no longer buy the Jimny in the UK thanks to EU Emission Laws and their effect on what manufactures can sell in their range.
Jimny the best and most capable, Land Rover piece of electronic rubish, take a Jimny any day, I don't want a Defender for free
Great video. But the title is misleading. There is no offroad challenge here, it's just a chit chat.
land rover wasting your money, very practical review, while jimny, realiable , fun, value for money and last for my than five years while the opposition, last only, well on hard offroading, probably five months.
Where was offroading!?
Jimny Is value for money, and more fun more teknik for offroader...
Peter Steele wins again
Afro samurai would drive this too
Offroad Challenge ?????
I have a Jimny, it's all that and then some
Tew sick m8
Nice review. Please review the Jeep Wrangler
So lovely that jimny😉
Have a look on this video where jimny an fl1 are involved with disco and patrol y60

Not more then Jimmy
New defender through Africa or darrion gap.... really. 😂
Defender rich kids toy
Jimny Street kids defender
Just get a 76
This comparative review has left much wanting and embarrasses South Africans.
For guidance on how to do this properly perhaps take some guidance from carwow and autocar UK.
Jimny is d clear winner in term of price n performance ,,
