I dont know why but TD30 module sounds better than TD50! Especially studio kit (on 30's) is like much more acouistic than jarrah kit (on 50's). TD50 module sounds much more machine gun effect. TD30 is still the king for me :)
I think really when you’re buying the TD-50 you’re buying it for the digital ride and snare, while when you get the TD-30 you’re buying it for the sounds
im so glad sent the td 50 brain pack back to sweetwater. the td 30 is still my workhorse .At first i thought it was me but after hearing demos and folks talking .THE TD 30 is still the best
I have a Roland TD-50 and for the first time in a while sat down at an acoustic set and was impressed to realize how much my TD-50 and the acoustic sounded and felt so identical. After sitting at an acoustic I am even more satisfied with my TD-50.
I was hoping for a literal side by side comparison. Both sets using the same drum-tec kits (i.e. RockKit 2) and hearing the same grooves and fills being played from both individual sets. Coming from a TD-20S purchased in 2008, both of these sound incredible!
Rick Monyer ya like that one video with the TD 25 & TD 30. This isn't much of a comparison as it is just a mash up of both videos one after the other. :/ oh well. Hopefully those other guys will do it right!
Hey Rick, you cannot use the same kits on both modules, as TD-30 and TD-50 have a completely different sound library / sound architecture. So you are right, this is not a scientific test with 8 bars beat TD-30 / 8 bars beat TD-50, but nonetheless I think you can get a pretty good first impression of both modules´ general sounds. And it was more fun to play in a non-scientific way :-D kind regards!
drumtecTV although it's not the same kits like that it just would've been nice to see a back and forth similar kit comparison between the modules so you can more quickly compare the two sounds

It's an unfair comparison IMO) I'm sure the TD-50 probably has certain advantages in terms of things like editing features, and of course there's the digital snare and ride, but I just feel like they tried too hard to give the samples that 'roland personality'
I think in the mix TD 50kv would sound better with other instruments... Maybe the snare of td 50kv needs some improvement, but at all TD 50 kv sounds better. Thats my opinion.
I think the snare on the 50 sounds pretty weak to me. Especially on the ghost notes. I have the 30 and if I do upgrade to another module it will be the Pearl Mimic. But right I'm happy with my 30.
Both TD-30 and TD-50 have enough aux inputs to add this amount of cymbals. You can find more info on the TD-50 here: www.drum-tec.com/roland-td-50-v-drums-sound-module-incl.-drum-tec-live-sound-edition Kind regards!

Hey there, that´s a tough call :) depends on personal sound preference, both modules trigger outstandingly well & have lots of in/outputs & options. Besides that, it depends on if you wish to use the new CY-18DR or PD-140DS digital pads, which are only compatible with TD-50. So in the end, we do like both modules, but they are quite different, especially when it comes to sound! Kind regards

Nice demo!!!! The Td30 snares sounds MUCH better than any TD50 ones... soundwise the TD50 only improved the tons sounds on my opinion. Shame on Roland...
I can see where you're coming from re this video. However, I own both and I can say the TD50 snare is light years better in feeling / sound- once you get the sound dialed in to exactly how you like it there's no comparison. In my opinion the toms sound better / different, but the cymbals have been greatly improved. Sitting on my TD50 I can close my eyes and convince myself I'm playing on my starclassic. It was hard / impossible to do that on my TD30 b/c of sound and feeling. Don't get me wrong there's still lots of room re sounds for improvement to get close to a VST- still roland signature, which isn't completely bad.
Also agree about the cymbals! Forgot to mention... but regarding the snares I already saw/heard many videos including those where the owners imported real samples into the module and I didnt like any snare... the digital snare should feel amazing, though... positive point for Roland. But soundwise, I dont need to play the Mimic Pro to know that it sounds amazing, vst quality and cheaper than Roland. Also dont get me wrong, this is just MHO, I love Roland, but its just too overpriced.
Completely agree. It's all very subjective. I didn't completely love any of the sounds out of the box- once I tweaked things myself and found the sounds that worked for me I was sold. The feeling straight away on the snare / ride was a massive improvement. If the mimic pro can somehow get the digital hookups on their module I'd be tempted to try them out.
I have to favour the TD_30KV starting from the snare and all the way around the kit , hi toms , floor toms and even the bass drum . But look not knocking back TD_50KV AND THERES NOT A GREAT DIFFERENCE. I BELEIVE IT BOILS DOWN TO INDIVIDUALS LIKING
They’re both way too expensive but from what I hear, the 30 has a better all around sound. So it would not be worth spending a few more thousand for the 50
