- It has never been really clear why the set of six suites (of which this Suite in F major is the fourth) was “for the English”, according to one of Bach’s sons. In any case, the name did not originate with Bach himself. And neither is the music in itself English, but belongs rather to the older French tradition - if we really have to stick a national label on it. Siebe Henstra performs this 'English' Suite no. 4 in the Bartolotti House in Amsterdam, Gustav Leonhardt's former residence.

@@corebite It is not even about national entities anymore: they serve the corporate apatrid money powers embedded in the so-called European Union. So they despise anything reminding them of cultural identity or historic grandiosity.

Bach NEVER disappoints.
Ce claveciniste est tout simplement excellent!! Bien sûr lorsqu'on a entendu le plus souvent ces suites sur le piano, il est un peu difficile d'accepter le son aigrelet du clavecin , mais cela ne retire rien aux qualités de Siebe Henstra.
Le son est aigrelet, mais tellement raffiné, précieux distingué....

Sent me running for a piano version. The pianoforte: the best thing to happen to the harpsichord.
The English suites were originally composed for harpsichord. But perhaps even Bach would have played his earlier keyboard works on the fortepiano in his elderly life. After all, he loved the improved Silbermanns.
