    I pitied Levana a whole lot while reading fairest. I kind of felt like she had a sickness, cause she kept feeding herself with poisoned lies, convincing her self that what she was doing or what she wanted was right and HAD to be down until it was accomplished.
    I also feel sooooooooooooooooo bad for Evret. When Levana was hitting on him at the hospital I was literally flipping out like "YOU ARE INSANE. HIS WIFE JUST DIED, LIKE WHAT? AN HOUR AGO!?"

    I think that a part of the reson why levana is so crazy and... well mentally ruined in so many ways, is that Channary used her powers to control Levana when levana was little. Not that that's an excuse for her to do all these terrible things, but i do think that that's a part of the reason! Because Levana says at some point in the book that she wants to use her powers on one of the little girls, but she does not do it because using powers to control small children can damage their mind. And later she says that (and we get to read about) her sister uses her powers to control Levana when Levana's little! So that can have damaged Levanas mind
    But still; Levana is freaking crazy and terrible and evil and i want to kill her but at the same time i did feel a little sorry for her some times BUT SHE KILLED HER HUSBAND!! I CRIED LIKE A BABY AT 1 AM AND HAD TO BITE MY FINGERS NOT WAKE MY FAMILY WITH MY SOBBS

      Marianne Håkestad Kristiansen I totally agree with you, and I think that is why Levana’s backstory is so sad. Even though it doesn’t justify her actions, I pitied her through this entire book.

      How did she kill everet? That was when that thaumaratge entered their room and killed him cuz levana kinda promised him to marry him!! Tell me if I'm wrong because I've just finished fairest and I really felt sorry for her but she could have been a better person if channary didn't bully her and set her on fire and it teaches u that u can't sb love u if they don't from the first place

    Argh Channary would've made a much worse queen than Levana! She didn't care about any of her royal duties (not that Levana made good choices either) Channary shoved her sister into the flames, she was a sadist and a psychopath. You don't "grow out" of sadism! She basically made Levana what she was by taunting her and teasing her, Levana's only role model was Channary, who was a complete sadist! I felt really sorry for Levana, but I agree that it was hard to sympathise with her when she did such awful things. She was so dim as well as being cruel and jealous and vain and wishful, she really isn't an intelligent woman. Yes when she glamoured herself to look like Solstice I was cringing so much! NO LEVANA STOP. I suppose she didn't understand that people were sad when people died because her and Channary didn't care when their parents died at the beginning. She's sort of indifferent to death through the whole book (except at the end when Evret died). The person I feel most sorry for is Winter, she could have had such a good life if Levana hadn't fallen for Evret. Even if Solstice had died anyway, at least Evret and Winter could've been happy together. This book demonstrates how dangerous obsessive/stalkerish love is! I think your reasons for why Levana scarred Winter are dead on, I think it was a mix of guilt, regret and jealousy. I thought that it was really sad that Levana felt like she needed to be beautiful so badly, like she didn't even consider getting reconstructive surgery, it was almost showing how bad it is to be so obsessed with beauty and looks and how judgemental society can be of people who have burns or scars. Poor Levana. Poor, crazy you-clearly-have-a-mental-illness Levana...I can't wait for Winter, I'm so excited!

    Oh my gosh, the audiobook of this was SOO well done!!! The phrase that Levana's sister would say a lot: "Come here baby sister... I have something to show you." sounded so creepy from the narrator.
    Levana is totally insane.

    Great review! This book had some rough moments because Levana was horrible but I almost pitied her sometimes but then she'd do more awful things that can't be forgiven. It was mentioned that when lunar power is used on children, it affects their mind so I was thinking Channary using it on her sort of messed her brain up? Idk... I'd rather think she was acting completely on her own will and is just a cruel and selfish person.

  • @elizabethgamez9293
    @elizabethgamez9293 9 лет назад +1

    Yes, I also think that she scared Winter's face because she probably kept seeing Solstice and Evret. I felt so bad for him when he was being forced to do things against his will, especially since he aways was so kind to her. I mean if I was Evret, I would have made our marriage hell, but he didn't. He was such a good person and he didn't deserve what happened to him. I hope Selene takes her down of a course with Winter's help. I wonder now if Jacin remembers Cinder when he saw her in Cress, because I think he was old enough to remember her.

  • @samjensen392
    @samjensen392 9 лет назад +1

    I think also that whenever Levana looks at Winter, she is reminded of Selene, because the two were best friends, and she couldn't stand the guilt of killing her.

    I completely agree with everything you said. I started the book like OMG Channary is such a witch and pitied Levana because I could see the set up of explaining why she became who she was in Cinder. Then homegirl fell off the deep end and my jaw was pretty much on the floor from the moment in the hospital when she pretty much told Evret he was better off without Solstice. Even Channary pointed out how cruel she was being by controlling Evret and pretending to be Solstice after she had died. She might have said it in a rude manner but it was true and she even responded with something like "you don't do that" when Levana suggested she just make some guy love her when he was proving "difficult." I think it was that moment when I was like "oh, so you're the crazy one." I could not believe her cruelty and I was waiting for some horrendous thing to explain it all so when we finally came to the burning scene I was like "that's it?" Yeah, it was terrible, but like didn't justify much at all, and I had to accept that Levana was just downright evil. And then when she was contemplating how to kill Selene and setting all that up, I was screaming "no!" at the book over and over the entire time because I just could not believe her.
    Marissa Meyer did such a fantastic job with this novella. I love how she gave us the villain's story without taking away the villain (if that makes any sense). I think I might hate Levana even more now, especially knowing how she completely ruined Winter & Evret's life.

    • @breannagarcia3492
      @breannagarcia3492 6 лет назад

      Karintha I know this doesn’t justify Levana’s actions, but I think when Channary manipulated Levana when she was little, it messed up Levana’s mind. Because in one part of the book Levana was going to manipulate Selene she didn’t because it could have messed her up.

    I loved this book! And I agree with so much of what you said! I pitied Levana for a small portion of the book, but I ended up leaving the story hating her more than I did going into it. It’s really hard not to sympathize with Levana. In Winter Levana revealed that her parents never loved her and in Fairest, her sister practically tortured her every day during Levana’s childhood and the results left her with a broken mind and heart. And Levana might be a sociopath and really doesn’t understand people’s emotions like why Everett don’t love her and why Cinder wants to take the throne from her. Levana constantly lied to herself until she believed it.

  • @aleksandragieralt1532
    @aleksandragieralt1532 9 лет назад +3

    Interesting review.
    Personally, I think Levanna is a terrible queen, however I think that she's completely bat-crap crazy, not evil. I feel bad for her for what happened in her past, but I can't wait to see Cinder regain the kingdom. I think Channary was worse, although the book hints at one point that Channary was also crazy. Their society, which is based on lies and illusions, was driving them crazy. I think Evret and Solstice were strong people because they managed to thrive in such an environment. Evret is definitely the woobie of the story. I feel terrible for him.
    However, I think that if Levanna had gotten psychological help and found friendship, she might have ended up different (although I don't think she would ever have been fit to be queen), while Channary seemed to be in complete control of herself when she made her bad choices. I can't make up my mind if Channary is evil of crazy too, but I think Levanna is just insane.

      It is a prequel in the way that talks about episodes happened before and after cinder's birth, but there are a lot of mention to charachters and episodes better explained in the three books of the series, so it's probably better to read them in publication order.

    To be honest, I don't normally hate villains, I usually love them just as I would any other character and sometimes even more...and I'm a sucker for evil queens...Like, bring on the Levana's and Queen Maeves and the Cersei's ....My love for villains then confuses me cause I love them so much and they're doing these bad things and I don't know if I want them to succeed or not.
    xD...Some villains I really loved are The Darkling and The Darkling and Sebastian and Obviously Levana...I also really loved Channary. I also love Darth Vader, he's my husband...xD...Let me shut up now.

    Loved reading Fairest! It has helped a little bit while waiting for Winter, but it's also made it worse lol. The fourth chapter for Winter was released in digital versions of Fairest and it's either the Walmart or Target hardcover editions have it in published format; (sorry I can't remember which exactly!) someone sent me pictures of it from Tumblr and it's an amazing Cinder and Kai scene that killed me! I encourage fans to try and grab a copy if they can! :)

    I know he's like 10 years older than her...and he's married to Solstice who I really liked but...My feelings for #Levret were like...oh gosh...I can't be the only one, please tell me I'm not the only one...

    See I pitted Levena for the first half of the book before She started plotting to kill baby Selene, I mean I knew Levena was insane but I didn’t know that she was insane enough to BURN A THREE-YEAR-OLD GIRL ALIVE.And come on, why did you just assume Selene was gonna turn out just like Selene YOU CANT PREDICT THE FUTURE.Also, Levena isn't just crazy, she's delusional.She was kind of like Cress in the way of her fantasies but Cress’s were more adorable whereas Levenas were her thinking of what the world should be according to her.

His whole life was turned inside out and upside down and he didn't even deserved it. I am not so sure about Levana's sister... maybe she could have matured, but that woman also had a lot of issues that needed resolving and dealing with too. Hey, I was wondering if anyone would agree with me. But remember how Channary can always see through Levana's glamours?.. and once in the book Levana lies to her about something(I can't remember what exactly) and Channary says that she knows Levana is lying but doesn't care..so she sees through the lie as well.. Does anyone think that that's why Cinder can tell when someone is lying to her or trying to glamour her?
