In this exciting episode we create a really cool laser scan effect for our droid. We cover how to use UV's to shape procedural materials and how to have to materials work together to create one effect. This is definitely one of my all-time favourites. Hope you enjoy it!

Hey Mr. Bailey :] There's an included add-on that you can enable called Copy Attributes Menu - you can copy rot, loc, modifiers and constraints really simply - select the plane, then the bot, Ctrl-C copy rotation (from the bot to the plane)! I use it constantly for loc and rot and very often for modifiers and constraints - can't live without it now!
Oooo nice! I'll check it out. Thanks Hey Bear!
Thank you Hey Bear Sensory!!
This is exactly the effect of the "flying scanning balls" or "mapping drones" from the Prometheus movie! I searched for a very long time until I came across your tutorial! Thank you so much, I'm a huge fan!
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I definitely used your technique for my last animation. The only alteration I made was when creating the UV maps, I noticed that after you scale the top layer and map your UVs, you can then merge those vertices down to 1 to make it a finer starting point. For all of those wondering, absolutely yes this works for cycles.
You´re the shader guru! :-D I didn´t expect, that this was completely done with shaders. Amazing!
laser movement can also be done by setting noise to 4D on boht noise textures and animating both
Definitely doing us all a favor with these!
High fives Scott
@@CBaileyFilm Thank you from the very core of my space heart!! :D
Really high quality tutorial: well explaned and nice attitude throughout the whole video, keep it up man!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you so much! I have been trying to find a way to do this.
really nice tutorial, thanks!
i'll have to look at this again sometime, it looks like just the effect I'm after for my a robot I'm building does with his optics to scan the world around him!
I'm excited
Great!
Needed this for my Endless Engines project
if you want an object to have same orientation as other object change the transformation orientation to that object you want to keep the orientation of and the select the object the you want to change the orientation of and go to object>transform>align to transform orientation. :)
Nice series!
Glad you like them!
This is excellent in so many ways. So many ways. Thanks you :D
Glad you like it!
Awesome...wonder if you could use dynamic paint somehow
How did u randomly scatter you asteriod rocks around?
Thank you for this I will like the video. What are your computer specs?
Did not know I could go above 1 in the RGB vibrancy.
Yes - how cool is that! you can also just increase the strength of your emission shader or use the multiply node and multiply it by 4 or 5 etc...
@@CBaileyFilm 🤔 alrighty alrighty
Does someone know how to create this with Unity shader graphs?
Cycle or eve
جميل جداً. لاكن انا عربي لا أعرف اللغة الإنجليزية 😭😭

I’m suffering so much trying to catch up 😭
Ha! I'm suffering trying to keep these coming out each week Oozly. Maybe we should both take a break? :-)
You ever try the pause button? Never have to worry about trying to catch up again
