Here's a lesson on John Lennon's rhythm part and the two volume pedal overdubs by George Harrison on this great Beatles classic! Chart & tabs at: www.MikePachelli.com
Mike , this is one of your best. Okay so you analyse the guitar parts like a brain surgeon and point out the idiosyncrasies with epic accuracy and then it comes to the sound alike and you nail those tricky harmonies. Overall it’s a work of genius. Thanks so much.
In 2001-2002, while driving home exhausted from a full Saturday of academics at Denver University at the age of 52yr. towards a principal's degree, I would play the entire album, Beatles '65. My favorites were "Yes, it is", & "No Reply". I played these songs in a band in Toledo, OH in 68-69. Mike is "the real deal" with the authentic breakthroughs of Beatle genius. No one ever tried to recreate the Beatles, or Yes, or Moody Blues... because it was sacred undiscovered talent. THANK YOU, MIKE PACHELLI!
To every song Mike shows the nearly original instruments. You must have lots of them. One more brilliant lesson, brings us near to join successfully next birthday celebration at Strawberry Fields.
This song has always blown my mind. The chord choices are nothing short of inspired. An underrated Beatles work of art. John is mistaken about its quality.
Mike, phenomenal job breaking this song down. This song is not only one of the most beautiful and heartfelt songs the Beatles ever created, it also contains one of the most sophisticated chord progressions of all their songs. Were they listening to the Beach Boys at the time? It's the sort of song Brian Wilson might have written, with Van Dyke Parks producing. All in all pretty astonishing.
Wow--what a treasure that guitar must be! Phil is such a sweet, modest man. When I was in seminary in St. Louis in the '90s I had the opportunity to interview him after a show, and he was so gracious. We talked mostly about C.S. Lewis and how much I loved his "Way Back Home" album that was then out of print. He said, "Y'know, I think I could do that album a lot better now"--and not too long afterward the re-recorded, extended version came out. At the end of the interview he was closing up his guitar case and said, "Wouldn't it be great if I could make enough money from music to retire and spend the rest of my time painting?" I said, "Don't do that!" Thank you, Mike, for sharing your gifts, also--I learn SOO much even without playing along. Always a treat to get these.
Yeah - Phil is really a great guy. We've been friends since 1967. Played on a number of each other's albums and have done a number of tours together. When I lived in Nashville our houses were 8 doors away from each other. He gifted me another great guitar (Charis SJ #50) in 2005 when we recorded our album "Two of Us." We released another duo album this year called "Adventure-us." It's available here: mikepachelli.com/cd-s
Another one of my favorite Lennon tunes and another great lesson, thanks Mike. And your twin brothers on backup vocals perfect as usual. I'm glad no music theorist ever got to the Beatles and told them they couldn't cross vocal parts. I'm really looking forward to your lessons on I'll Be Back and I'm Only Sleeping but I don't think anyone would expect you to nail the backwards guitar parts.
I just had this moment of enlightment when is saw and heard the acoustic guitar part, i listened to the first few seconds of the song and instantly could hear the strumming of the guitar which i never really heard. Thanks, now i know how it is really played.
Fantastic! Mike! I have been trying to learn to play the bass and have been practicing this song recently. I always loved the song.. I remember hearing it for the first time. I was lying in bed late at night and listening to my transistor radio At the time, the Beatles hadn't released anything in a while. It was such an unusual and beautiful song that wasn't sure it was really them.. Thanks for the tutorial.
Another great job. you have an outstanding ear for picking details out. I never heard the 'mistake' until you pointed it out... too cool! Still hoping for Two of Us.
Always played a C#m where that G#m is. It's interesting that I never heard it this way, but you're absolutely correct. Appreciate you fixing my mistake
Stephen - thanks but I am in NO way, shape or form a "genius." I simply spend an inordinate amount of time (ask my wife) listening and researching before I even begin to construct a lesson. A "genius" would be able to do so such MUCH faster. :-)
@@MPfrance Appreciate your modesty. However, music and sounds, not to mention your ability to play the guitar, come naturally to you. You do have a special gift in this area. You work very hard and you don’t allow for distractions to make your work imperfect! This is the behavior of genius! Life’s mission, accomplished! 👏👍🤓
@@MPfrance So much has been said and written about The Beatles. I think John would be astounded, but proud, that their work is still revered and being discovered by new generations of kids
Mike… I can’t thank you enough for this lesson!!! Love your dedication, hardwork and precision on all your work! This song has been like a “holy grail” for me. Thank you once again. ❤❤❤
Always really dig how you go so much into the little grains and nuances. As a classical guitarist, I have to say I mince whenever I see a pick used on nylon strings over the beautiful finish of a classical guitar.
Maybe a felt pick could help but this song is not "classical" style playing with fingers & Lennon wasn't a traditional nylon string player, there are plenty who use a pick, some type of pick is needed to get the correct strumming pattern & sound !
John - thanks. But it's really just a matter of listening to a song on a myriad of speakers and headphones using lots of different EQ settings. Then things pop out to ya clearly.
I always assumed it was some of George Martin's studio magic. No idea it was a simple volume pedal and harmonics. I'm glad I lived long enough to find out. I feel such a fool.
A fave by the Fabs, as good as any Jimmy Webb or Bachrach song. I cover it, and worked the three part melody sticking pretty close to their harmonization. An instrumental cover was also done by Johnny A. Thanks for this in depth exam!
Your analysis and ear are amazing, thanks for all the work you put into these videos. You asked for a suggestion in your email...I couldn't find on your sites "Bad Boy." Do think you could do a lesson on that cool song?
Mike should wear shirts that say Paul, George, Ringo and John when he sings the soundalike. Or maybe deepfake the lads faces over his… but that’d be loads of editing for him… he does more than enough already! Thanks Mike!

A criminally under-rated song. Thank you.

One of the best melodies for The Beatles, it has unique and dreamy melody and harmonies.

Underrated song by The Beatles! Mabuhay ka! Godbless you.🎉
All your videos are great. This one was even better.

Ingenious volume pedal !

Brilliant!! This is genius!!
I saw Phil Keaggy in New Jersey around 1982 or 1983. Tremendous. He was very popular at the Christian College I attended back then.
always great content
Nowhere man also had three-part J/P/G harmonies on the verses (as you well know, coz you've done an excellent vid on it). Great vid here too.
Thanks Mike. I always wanted to learn this song.
The true fifth Beatle is back again. Mike, you should go on tour with a back up band and you would sell out. Much love from the Northeast of the USA.
Jeff - Thanks but my touring days are long gone. I turned down yet another tour this year with a very famous French singer. I like being home...

very good too
And we all know Phil K. is the King of volume mastery.....on his guitar!
Wonderful song, so Buddy Holly like. I think it is a very emotional song.
Yeah, the guitars are cool but dang, nailed those harmonies! Wow.
David - Thanks - Very kind of you to say!
Just Wow...😯👍👍👏👏
If there's one thing i've taken away from any of these lessons it's that........The Beatles loved their barre chords!! 😅
