This song has always been one of my most favorite Beatle songs. It always amazes me to hear how they never thought much of some of these songs. Thank you so much for sharing.
I was 10yrs old. I'd already been playing drums 1.5 yrs. Help was playing at a local movie theater. I may have set a record for seeing that movie. Even at 10 I knew it was big change for them. I didn't know it was pot, but it was different, and I really dug it. Their sound was cleaner, more attention to detail. It began their creativity competition. George inspired it. I loved it. The volume pedal was brilliant, simple structure still, but marked the beginning of the brilliant song-writing phase, all trying to out do the other. I loved it. Thanks for bringing that all back to me. I loved that era of Beatles, so fresh and promising. Great job Mike.
Yup, the previous album 'Beatles For Sale", in latter 1964, was actually the first pot infused/influenced album for the lads and thanks to Mr. Bobby Dylan (pre-Help sessions). You can definitely see the change in sound and nature of the BFS album compared with 'A Hard Day's Night' - of which pot hadn't entered the picture for the Fab 4 quite yet. So BFS began the lads pot phase into their obsession with the substance by the Help sessions and beyond.
Mike is definitely the best teacher/expert to help us in our research of the best way to approach any Beatles song ! Besides this, he ´ s just excellent with his own versions of Beatles masterpieces ! Congratulations for his dedication to music, and lot of thanks !
Yet another one of my favorite Beatles tunes which demonstrates George's musical genius! Thanks for breaking that one down Mike and for keeping their music alive & well! 👍👍
I've always loved this song. I'm surprised that George didn't site this in his book. He wrote some great songs during his time with the Beatles, not the least of which was this one. Thanks for doing this Mike and great job as usual!
What an absolutely brilliant song you’ve remembered here Mike. I’ve never attempted playing it but these fairly simple chords come together so well and to think George didn’t think it worth a mention!
Wow....This is the one Beatle track I was hoping one day you would perform and share, thank you so much Mike absolutely fantastic👍....This was George's masterpiece IMHO a wonderful song.
This song really grabbed me when I first saw it in the theater, visually and audibly. Simple elegance. Great job as always, corrected some of my missteps in my voicings, utmost be my left handedness.
Fab work, Mike! I think that George maybe felt somewhat 'intimidated' and overwhelmed by his songwriting bandmates in those early years and was possibly hesitant in presenting his songs to them. Maybe John and Paul could've given him more support, yes indeed, but then they were under enormous pressure themselves to churn out hits. It was a crazy, hectic time. Anyway, George found his own way and became, as we know, an incredible songwriter and tour-de-force in his own right. This track "I Need You" has something deceptively 'special' about it - it possesses that 'Harrison touch' that may, ironically, have been forged out of his aforementioned early hesitancy or self doubt, competing as he was with the main songsmiths. After all, none of us can ever know what it must have been like turning up at a rehearsal and nervously presenting a song we just composed - only for it to be judged (and possibly rejected) by John Lennon and Paul McCartney. But George, you needn't have doubted for a second, and your songs will forever brighten the world. My personal favorite is "Cheer down." Anyway, thanks again Mike for breaking this down and putting it together again so brilliantly!
wonderful lesson covering a great song. George's song but no doubt all four had input. I think the cowbell part is an amazing enhancement. Thanks Mike!
Wow Mike a couple early Harrison songs in a row by you. I actually think this is a great song for newer guitarists to play. I have played this solo many times out live. I never used the Aaug chord you so wisely figured out. Your sound alike was great .
Wow...I did a cover of this 15 years ago (I had to change the key to D to fit my voice) and you are showing me how many parts/chords I missed. Thank you for the level of detail you put into this. I'll be 72 in a few weeks but never too old to learn. Liked and subscribed!!
My exact copy of your Ringo does the same thing from time to time. Maybe since yours is probably as old as mine perhaps a little oil might help. Sadly, my Ringo doesn't get much work out these days. I should pull it off the shelf. BTW, loved this song then and love your rendition now. Especially your very stylishly dressed trio of ooers and ahers around the mic. I think I'll be visiting your Charts and Tabs to put this one on my music stand. Thanks.
I agree for me their best stuff was from A Hard Days Night until their best Album Revolver when Lennon was still the leader. Mostly Guitar driven albums
@magkri - Thanks and yeah - I've thought about doing "Long Tall Sally" but as of yet - I haven't got the courage to attempt to sing the sound-alike. Who knows tho'...
A brilliant lesson again… thank you so very much. Been playing the 12 string part wrong for years. Loved that you nailed it perfectly to a tee! Loved the sound from the Harley Benton. I wonder if it’s because the way Gretsch was strung. Once again, thank you very much Mike for this lesson. Take care and Peace. 🤗
@string - Thanks - you're too kind but in my humble nothing is "better" than the original. My equipment is worlds better than what the lads had available to them so the sound technology may be a bit of an improvement...
Mike, thanks for this incredibly detailed and brilliant breakdown of what is my favourite Beatles song. I learned the song many years ago, but there were some finer points of detail that always eluded me…eg was it a B7 or a Bm? Now I know it was both😊. Fantastic. Well done my friend and thankyou so much👏👏👏🎶
Lennon and McCartney basically didn’t like anything George wrote. Ironically some of his songs became the most popular and recognizable of all the Beatles songs. Loved that man. ☮️💜
I was wondering why my acoustic guitar didnt sound quite right. One was the tuning and second was its NOT an acoustic...lol. The Heartbreakers did an excellent version of this song at the Concert for George...❤
Hi Mike! I’m not sure if you’ve mentioned it before but what brand is that pop filter? Looks exactly like the one used at Abbey Road. Thanks! Love your videos btw.
Since I have a Stratocaster, I intend to experiment with manipulating the guitar volume control on the electric part. I'll let you know how it works out.
I think this a great song. Funny how the Beatles have a rather understated view of some of their popular songs. I guess it’s the difference between composer and fan. Some of their later compositions particularly on the white album were complete wrecks but this particular one is one of George’s best .
Well done Mike!! I always thought this song had huge potential - but due to the lack of interest (and encouragement), mainly from John Lennon & George Martin - the song does not feel finished. This attitude from Lennon & Martin towards Harrison's songs persisted to almost the end of The Beatles.
This song has always been one of my most favorite Beatle songs. It always amazes me to hear how they never thought much of some of these songs. Thank you so much for sharing.
Unique like many pleasing
My wife and i have been together for 56 years and this was OUR song. Thanks Mike!
Learned so much about this song (thnx Mr Lennon for letting Geo H. work His majik).

This has always been one of my favourite songs from Harrison and one of his best, great lesson as always Mike
It’s a highlight of the movie for sure , they look so good on the plain , the look , the song , the camerawork . Iconic .
Mike is definitely the best teacher/expert to help us in our research of the best way to approach any Beatles song !
Besides this, he ´ s just excellent with his own versions of Beatles masterpieces !
Congratulations for his dedication to music, and lot of thanks !
Another excellent lesson Mike. Have thoroughly enjoyed your video lessons over the years.
Thank you kindly!

Thanks for listening
I've always loved this song. I'm surprised that George didn't site this in his book. He wrote some great songs during his time with the Beatles, not the least of which was this one. Thanks for doing this Mike and great job as usual!
My metronome also had "a limp". I just stopped using it.
What an absolutely brilliant song you’ve remembered here Mike. I’ve never attempted playing it but these fairly simple chords come together so well and to think George didn’t think it worth a mention!
One of the best song on Help! in my opinion! Thank you very much for this one, Mike.
Wow....This is the one Beatle track I was hoping one day you would perform and share, thank you so much Mike absolutely fantastic👍....This was George's masterpiece IMHO a wonderful song.
Always been an under rated song. Great video thanks.
Mike, thank you so much for the wonderful lessons on these great Beatles songs.
My pleasure!
Great sound-alike! I am surprised George doesn’t play A7 on the acoustic. I always include it when performing alone.
@tomt - Thanks for the kudos. George DOES play an A7 on the acoustic but (like I explain in the lesson) not until the 3rd verse.
Sounds great Mike….spot on as always!
This song really grabbed me when I first saw it in the theater, visually and audibly. Simple elegance. Great job as always, corrected some of my missteps in my voicings, utmost be my left handedness.
Fab work, Mike!

Loved the soundalike video. The way you actually play bass left handed shows commitment to getting it "right". Thanks
all he has to do is edit the video for a mirror image.
wonderful lesson covering a great song. George's song but no doubt all four had input. I think the cowbell part is an amazing enhancement. Thanks Mike!
Loved the sound alike
The harmonies were very good !
Love your work!
The limp comment cracked me up. I've played a lot of Beatles over the years so it's enjoyable watching your videos. Keep rockin'.
@harry - Yeah - my Ringo may have to be replaced by his son Zak!
@@MPfrance Like a click or metronome setting in a keyboard?
What I always liked about this song was the driving Percussion. Ringo, John, or both really did this song justice.
love the sound of the Harley Benton...looks good as well...Thanks Mike ...Oh man I got wistful nostalgia watching ...Thank you, love the lesson Mike.
Great job, Mike! ....The 12 string guitar parts are so much more intricate than first believed!
Thanks and yeah, re: "The 12 string guitar parts are so much more intricate than first believed" - that's always the case with George & John!
GREAT SONG
Perfect, thanks again Mike! I would love to see you cover " The Night Before."
@88 - Thanks and yeah - "The Night Before" is definitely on my to-do list.
Wow Mike a couple early Harrison songs in a row by you. I actually think this is a great song for newer guitarists to play. I have played this solo many times out live. I never used the Aaug chord you so wisely figured out. Your sound alike was great .

I have never seen a 12 string like that. It looks great.

Thank you so much for covering this song, I love it, nicely done mate, cheers!
‘Help’ up there as one of my favourite Beatle albums. Well done Mike, as usual a brilliant job
I agree for me their best stuff was from A Hard Days Night until their best Album Revolver when Lennon was still the leader. Mostly Guitar driven albums
I have to comment on something that will be on youtube for decades as Mike is a champion.
Tanks so much!!
Hey Mike - great lesson. Can you do a tutorial on Long Tall Sally?
@magkri - Thanks and yeah - I've thought about doing "Long Tall Sally" but as of yet - I haven't got the courage to attempt to sing the sound-alike. Who knows tho'...
@ I think it won’t be a problem for you. I’m looking forward to the tutorial.
Nice work, Mike!
Thank you! Cheers!
You are a goldmine of wonderful information
A brilliant lesson again… thank you so very much. Been playing the 12 string part wrong for years. Loved that you nailed it perfectly to a tee! Loved the sound from the Harley Benton. I wonder if it’s because the way Gretsch was strung. Once again, thank you very much Mike for this lesson. Take care and Peace. 🤗
A different save Mike? Good lesson as usual and of course your "sound alike" is amazing
(Hand-over-my-face reaction: wow, another person doing Vol Pedal FX instead of guitarist! I am amazed. Thanks for that notation.)
Another stellar performance, Mike. Better than the Lads!
@string - Thanks - you're too kind but in my humble nothing is "better" than the original. My equipment is worlds better than what the lads had available to them so the sound technology may be a bit of an improvement...
great work as always!
Great .😊
The soundalikes are always good, but this one particularly so! Thanks, Mike.
Mike, thanks for this incredibly detailed and brilliant breakdown of what is my favourite Beatles song. 9 possibly 10 separate cameras! Impressive work.
We are spoiled by your take on The Beatles !
In the movie Help! at the very end as the credits are rolling for a second you hear George saying " I need you by George Harrison"
I always loved this song….such a great chord progression and melody..George was brilliant!….JOEY HEATHERTON…old Georgie got around!
Brilliant.
What makes this song so great is the guitar parts.
Lennon and McCartney basically didn’t like anything George wrote. Ironically some of his songs became the most popular and recognizable of all the Beatles songs. Loved that man. ☮️💜
Golden pants are fire!
For some reason, I thought John Lennon played the acoustic part. I didn't know George played it on a Ramirez. Really great syncopated rhythm playing.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
So is the first and perhaps only example of Ringo playing guitar on a Beatles record?
👍😊👋
Good song from help! They sing in the battle field scene
@Super - It's a Peluso Microphone Lab 67/87 Pop Filter. They are readily available on eBay.
Nice and Easy .......
Since I have a Stratocaster, I intend to experiment with manipulating the guitar volume control on the electric part. I'll let you know how it works out.
I need more cowbell. Explore the space baby!
I think this a great song. Funny how the Beatles have a rather understated view of some of their popular songs. I guess it’s the difference between composer and fan. "Ringo" is sounding old. I think the end is nearing......
Beatle number 5… MP!
@keith - or 5,567,888,363,302 !
Gonna need ear worm surgery after this one. Nice work, Mike.
Thanks Mike, meticulous as usual.
ohhhhh cowbell most unexpectedly Instrument 😂
Mi viene nostalgia di questo brano di George
❤❤❤
