The Killing Moon is without question my favorite song ever. There will never be a better version than the original. But there are a couple of covers that are really good. This is one of them. Lauren just puts something amazing into it. And it has a slightly different atmosphere than the original, while staying true to it. Love it. The other cover I like is Grant-Lee Phillips' version. It has a whole different vibe, but I think it works.

guess Lauren and Chvrches are on the same wavelength as me . Cause I just saw the new season of Van Helsing and the Killing Moon was used in the show. So I looked it up and found that it was by Echo and the Bunnymen , a song I had heard years ago when it first came out . too cool glad that Chvrches likes this song too .
An amazing year. Robert Smith, Echo and the Bunnymen, Screen Violence and now Cry Little Sister from The Lost Boys (mastering into Dark, goth, New Wave, danceable synth pop). ¿Fantastic in´s it? They carry Eno, Moroder, Bowie, Kraftwerk, Bauhaus, The Cure... the past on their shoulders.

I prefer my covers to take the track in a very different direction to the original, this is closer to the original than I would usually like, yet it has a certain sparkle. Serious echo's from the original, yet her voice and the little instrumentation flourishes just lifts it well into "That's a good version" category.

Agree. It’s almost the same. Pavement do a cover that is a departure and still has the swooning sea guitar strumming. It was a cover worth doing.

I kind of agree with that. "A different direction," but I think it is a fine line. I like covers that balance staying true to the original while adding a different vibe or dimension. When they are too different, they often lose me. An example of a cover I think is brilliant in honoring the original while adding its own vibe is Liquefaction's cover of Don't Fear the Reaper. I actually like it better than the BOC original. Another example: Letters to Cleo's cover of The Dangerous Type. Like Lauren here, Kay Hanley really injects something intriguing and fresh with her vocals.

Love Lauren's voice. She is, for me, a modern-day Liz Fraser ... who had one of the best singing voices ever. I also get a bit of a Harriet Wheeler with Lauren, .. but Wheeler has the voice of an angel ... and nobody will ever reach or surpass that for me.

Pavements cover is still the best I have heard, but it takes it a darker slower direction, which is hard to do considering the original.

This is good but its hard to beat the original. McCulloch's voice is something else.
His voice is exceptional on this one.
No disrespect to this band and their version but lacks the emotion and depth of the original. Sounds like any ones version of the song.
She's a good singer/frontwoman but just isn't working out that well on this. It's nice but kind of flat.
