This video will show you the steps to apply a setup on our Formula 1000 race car. My car is a Stohr F1000 but is highly modified so very little remains from Stohr. While this is for a specific race car, several methods and approaches can be used on other race cars. The idea of this video is to share so you may gain some knowledge in tuning your own race cars chassis setup.
I will show you the following: Cambers, Ride Height, Toe, Front Wing and Flaps, Rear Wing and finally zero sensors with Motec.

I'm delighted a lot watching this video. I knew some concepts of a racing car setup, but see that being applied is aftermost enjoyable. Thanks for share your acknowledgement.

I was in Army Aviation for 12 years working on UH-60s. Your data acquisition reminded me of IVHUMs. Sensors all over the helicopter tracking TONS of data points. Vibrations could should a part failing soon among other data points. Ahh Excel... It's a time machine. Start pulling data and trying to get a formula output just right. The sun can rise and set and you wouldn't notice.
And for those that hate data and Excel yea. Sometimes it gets boring but when you work on a race car or helicopter as well you SEE the parts working in your head when crunching numbers and it makes you want to tweek everything even more.
Or throw your laptop across the room when you get get something to work.. LOL

That is fantastic to hear, yea good ole excel. In my case it is only used for static setup logging for the analysis software to leverage. The heavy lifting is the real time logging of sensors of course. But the two tied together is powerful. It sounds like you would enjoy hanging out with us and sharing stories... Thanks for the comment!!!

    Hey Mark.
    I must apologise.
After asking you to do an episode on chassis set-up, I finally make the time to watch it, two months later!
For me, a truly awesome episode. Loved the detail.
The one aspect of motorsport I find the most fascinating is chassis set-up, whether it involves four or two wheeled machines.
I have one question, do you measure/adjust caster and if so how do you go about doing that?
Keep the content coming, my workmates and I really enjoy it.
    Cheers.

Hi Warren, thanks for question and nice words. As for Caster, not so much. I really focus on toe and camber as you saw. You need or should have turning plates but can measure caster with the digital gauge I use. For me I only think of caster as a setting to add weight to the steering wheel with more caster makes a heavier wheel and so on. It can help with turn in causing a weight shift on the inside wheel etc. But, as I said I do not bother much with caster. Thanks

How much would one of these go for? Do you know of any site or place where i could go to buy one or is it better to do it yourself

Hi, There are few F1000 on the market, you either need to buy new or keep a close eye on what is for sale. You asked about price, new you are at 75k or more. I do happen to know of one Firman F1000 that is for sale now. It is a very fast and sorted car, I think it is priced at 65k. One site to watch is apexspeed.com. I hope this helps

I am 58 soon to turn 59...my dream is to go through such an experience! I haven't missed watching an F1 race since I can remember. I am into speed, had 911 Porsche and currently own a Yamaha 1300cc. Is there any chance that could still happen being that I am well fit and a mechanical engineer. How do I go about going on such an adventure. Cost will not be an issue, I'd be willing to sell some of my assets to cover any cost. I'll also clean your car and garage for you. Pleaaaaaase give some input if can.

Hi, welcome to the channel. You are not alone, I have been contacted by many folks just like you wanting to experience and or get into racing such as what I do. I am working on a couple of videos that are specifically just for you. They will get into how to start, what you make consider, expectations and so on. Watch out for these videos, I assume you have subscribed that would be good so you stay informed. Feel free to send any questions you have, I am happy to help. Cheers!
