It's pretty cool that David Letterman has asked them to do an encore both times they've been on the show. It's even cooler that those are the only two times he's EVER asked for an encore on the show.
That's not true - he also offered an encore to Vintage Trouble (another incredible band) and The Orwells. The Vintage Trouble performance is one of my favourite single-song live performances of all time.
juggalonumber27 Yesyesyes! Dave has seen hundreds, actually thousands of bands in his loooong stint and few have ever made him come on out and actually sing a little bit in the song and even beg them for another! Damned few if any... Ladies and gents I posthumously Nominate The Heavy as one of the all time greats in Letterman's amazing era!
A killer lead singer letting the amazing back up singers have the last note is a baller move. Ive never said baller in my life but it just feels like the right word
They sound exactly, EXACTLY, like they do on their studio release. That's beyond impressive, plus their performance was just awesome; pure showmanship.
Wow....love love this performance, with the amazing full band and holy shit the best ever back up singers........this has to be on Dave's short list as the best ever live shows he did!!
I don't think anyone realizes that all the sound/lights was improvised for the second song since that was obviously (I think...?) not planned. Coming from a theatre person...that's very impressive.
Best live band I've seen in years, great song writers, coolest players, Kelvin is an amazing performer - yet fame eludes them. The strange possessive part of me hopes it stays that way.
Marcelo Furquim I became a fan the first time I saw them play on Letterman. Was lucky enough to run into them walking along 6th Street during SXSW in Austin a few years ago, and was even luckier when the singer invited me to walk with them to their next gig. GREAT live show!!
I saw them the same day, they had a concert in a small venue in NYC after the Letterman Show. They where so happy how Dave treated them. I live in CA. I planned my vacation around just to go see them. It was a great show.
omg...I am so tired of acts that manipulate their voices or instrumentation to the point that it cannot be replicated before a live audience, therefore rely on "singing" to tracks... THIS IS LIVE AND I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!
Watching Lennon through his whole career the heavy the band The Heavy and their performance and How You Like Me Now both the first and the second visit probably one of the top three performances on the show
@@benjaminodonnell258 Not quite. We have lots of grey and rain, yes, so we're indoors a lot. But we also have blazing sun and everything's green and blue and then we go _outside_ and _play_ the music and have fun.
@@pault1964 The start was even before that. Think Small Faces with Steve Marriott, Ronnie Lane, Kenney Jones and Ian McLagan. Short in stature but wildly huge on sound, talent and charisma! Bless the British. They have always been at the beginning of superb rock and blues.
It is rarely said about backup singers because they normally don't shine as much as support. However those backup singers nailed it. I mean The Heavy is obviously amazing it's just awesome to have backup singers so skilled.
I'm glad these guys understand that good groovy music is not about jangling your guitar as hard as you can but playing modest yet steady riffs. Also the brass&wind section helps a lot.
I loved the theme song from Borderlands 2 and only recently figured out who the band was, so I bought all their albums based on the glowing reviews. Seriously, each album sounds like the kind of "best of" material that other bands would put together after a decade of performing. The quality and diversity of the music is amazing.
That's how I found them too. Don't think there's a bad track on Glorious Dead or The House that dirt built. Can listen to the entire album and go on a journey.
A master class in lead vocals and musical performance.....utterly utterly superb and I want to see them live! Truely great band and they should be doing the new Bond theme tune.
What I find interesting about this performance is that since they were not expecting how you like me know the guitar solo has more distortion and crunch to it. Really pulls it off when things get quite.
The guys are even better live!! See them a few times. Doing a summer tour and already have my tickets for Toronto at The Opera House on May 6th. Giddy up!
I lost faith in music for the most part until I heard these guys. Love this band, and the style they present. Its an old soul with a swift kick in the ass to jump start your day.... Stay awesome guys, and keep making music worth listening too.
Most underrated band of the 21st century
Really? People seem to like them a lot.
@@michaelkossin2765 but not that much people really seem to know these guys, they deserve way more recognition.
This British band thats never been on British T.V
Agree!
@@michaelkossin2765 How you like me now is pretty famous in Europe but not really in the US and also their other songs deserve to be more famous too
Those backup singers are why I love this version even more than the album one, they add so much more to it 🙌😊
Now that you mention it? Good call. Good reason to catchem live I guess
It's pretty cool that David Letterman has asked them to do an encore both times they've been on the show. It's even cooler that those are the only two times he's EVER asked for an encore on the show.
That's called wining the industry...
I noticed the first encore performance on his show that you mentioned is no longer on RUclips.
@@MB-wx2jp 😕
How you like me now and the heavy in general is always good for ratings in America, and not just the intro for borderlands 2
That's not true - he also offered an encore to Vintage Trouble (another incredible band) and The Orwells. The Vintage Trouble performance is one of my favourite single-song live performances of all time.
Two years after their first time on his show and he still remembers the song they played. They made one hell of an impression.
Daves unabashed love of these guys always makes me happy to see

Dave loved Vintage Trouble too.
Soul ,Rock ,Blues ,alles
Got it all !
Encores *never* happened on Letterman, it was unheard of. Amazing.
Right I had never seen that before!
A killer lead singer letting the amazing back up singers have the last note is a baller move.
Ive never said baller in my life but it just feels like the right word
I love it when Dave likes a band. He was huge into rock. Him asking them to do another song is like Johnny Carson asking comedians to the couch.
Except rarer
Haha love Letterman's reaction; "I liked everything about that!!!"
Couldn't agree more!
+Caroline Grohl absolutely
I was in the audience 😅. Bruce Willis and Brian Regan as guests. Great performance.
They sound exactly, EXACTLY, like they do on their studio release. That's beyond impressive, plus their performance was just awesome; pure showmanship.
just as good as the album, and with the obvious tells of it being live...
Very impressive indeed. They are my new favorite band! I thought they might have used some pc touchings, but this blew that idea away!
This is the best guest performance on a talk show I've ever seen. There was a reason Letterman had them encore both times they were on.
"You got a little 'how you like me now'" famous David Letterman line trying to coax the heavy to encore! Legendary performance by all participants.
How can you not like a rock band with a horn section???
Yep! My favorite band!
totally agree
Yeah winds are definitely different in Rock bands
Foxy Shazam
Dap-Kings horn section

And they were ready to go with a second song! Incredible! Profoundly talented group of musicians.
This is brilliant, like only the British can, that retro rock age sound, analog...superb !

A fucking flawless, stellar performance.
these guys are so underrated I swear they make some truly memorable songs, the ones you WANT to get stuck in your head
Letterman is a huge fan. Always has em perform an encore.
How did this song not chart in Australia?
Ripper.
Wow, what beautiful music🤗
A great English band😉

Just crawled out from under my rock - First time I've seen these guys, they are awesome!
I keep coming to watch this a couple of times a month still. One of the best live performance s ever
Awesome band, love that good groups like these are getting the attention they well deserve.
killer performance
Dave's favorite band for sure... :-)

Where's TF2 Heavy??
Great example of a band in their absolute prime.
It really shocks me how peaple like to listen to trance music these guys are so under rated and I hope these guys get big they are truly amazing.
I like trance and the heavy...
Hmm... How does such a tiny little island keep cranking out so much awesome music ?
The weather's so bad, they have tons of time indoors to listen to and make music 😉

First time Letterman EVER asked a band to do an encore. How awesome.
Absolutely INCREDIBLE!
Damn, that was an awesome live performance.
The way he let's the band go low is amazing 😎
Lucky enough to have caught this live. Still my favorite performance on Letterman.
it's good to be Letterman.. have The Heavy sing again for you, just like that
I was at the show that day... awesome. Thanks for the post.
I've watched this video so many times I can sing along with Daves little melody right at the start haha. WHAT A BAND

Ive watched many live shows both live and online, this performance nonetheless was one of the best ive ever seen from a band, well done.
Those backup singers straight up carried half the weight 🔥🔥👌
The whole performance was a powerhouse.
Only for what makes a good man , considering it is a large portion of the song
it's a lot of weight for the main band to carry. It's why they're called the heavy

I love how much Letterman loves them! ❤
Awesome Band!
I just heard them talk about this, and being British, they had no idea being asked to do an encore was a big deal.
How do you like me now is the most addictive song i have ever heard. This band deserves so much more fame than they actually have.
In a few months I'm gonna see them live, in a small club, 200 people, lucky me.
what a great fucking band! yeah
Yes yes yes it was. Definitely looking forward to their return.

that was the best letterman performance i have ever seen in all my years of watching live youtube videos
If I had to describe The Heavy in two words it would be Absolutely BADASS
Classy act. Damn I love this band.
Just saw them last night in DC. AH-MAY-ZING show!!!!
David Letterman ALWAYS has good bands/musicians, much respect for that.

These guys are absolutely amazing...
Saw them in an intimate venue in Montreal Quebec Canada. Stellar!!!
David must of really liked them to play an encore. This group is awesome, they are one of my favorite bands now.
I was hoping that they would be on the last show and do a repeat of this..
I want the full version!!!
Great Band ^_^
Totally AMAZING!
They are so Awesome! Love them!!
