Love this movie. It is one of those rare gems that was completly underrated. The grim atmosphere, the soundtrack, the cast, the action, the vast number of badass moments, the villains....it was all good. There was not a boring moment in that movie. To this day I have no idea why it wasn't a massive success. Ppl got no taste these days.
Anytime this movie is on I will watch it, I watch clips on RUclips all the time. One of the best movies, best series actually!! I’ll take Riddick over Wick any day!
The reason I like these movies so much is cause they felt so 80s-ish. Even the dialogue and how the actors like Tombs delivered there lines. Had Alien/Predator character vibes to it.
I remember that someone criticized a movie I watched because it was "too much like an 80's movie" and I thought to myself: "how could that be a criticism?"

There may be confirmation bias but most people were console gamers and were truly into the mainstream games of the era. I was lucky enough to be a pc gamer, I had access to a library of games on demand *cough online sharing cough*. Honestly, I would have loved to see the situation be the way you described it. Maybe it was different in other parts of the world but this was the case in the UK at that time.
A lot of people think the ship is DESIGNED to strap gunners to the sides like that but its more likely that the ship is just a troop transport and the Mercs DIY'ed some straps onto the sides for hunting their targets.

Love how he doesn't even move until a little while after saying, "empty gun rack." almost as if to say, "I want you to really think about that...let that sink in...think about what you've done. Okay times up."
Makes sense for a light weight ship like that. Instead of adding the additional armor and electronics etc etc. Just adds weight, especially considering the ship seems to have VTOL capabilities which means weight balancing is that much more important ^^

The 3rd movie is kind of a return to the roots kinda thing, but that just means it's awesome. 😊

He crashes on a planet loaded with vicious space monsters that only appear at a certain time. Everything jumps off in the final act of the movie - monsters vs bounty hunters vs Riddick. There's a few twists and pretty much everyone dies. The movie ends with potential for a Part 4, which I would totally be down for.

Riddick is actually based off a Drow Rogue that VIn Diesel played during a long-running D&D campaign. Thus the twin daggers, the sneakiness, the light sensitivity and whole.... chaotic neutralish thing.
story seems to be highly reminiscent of the whole Saiyan/Super Saiyan story... the last of his kind... prophetic to be the only race that could kill a certain enemy (Freiza), so the person who heard the prophecy kills all that might be a threat to his kingdom, but one baby got away.... yeah... totally a rip off of the Namek arc in Dragonball Z (Kai), which in turn, was a ripoff of the whole Superman story.....

Watching this scene makes me realise Vin Diesel would actually be a really good choice for Wolverine. Vin is short, stocky and incredibly strong, just like Wolverine. He's got the gravitas and the growl. Slap some high quality wig/facial hair on him, I think he'd actually be really good

Toombs is my second most favorite character (after Riddick, of course). He´s still alive, so he could appear in the next movie. It´s in fact interesting that Riddick haven´t killed him when he could. Multiple times.
I don´t think Riddick has respect for him. He rarely has some respect for anyone and Toombs is no real danger for him. He caught him only when he wanted to be caught. It seems more like Toombs is such a loser for Riddick that he even doesn´t bother to kill him because it´s more funny when he´s alive. :D The only mercs Riddick had respect for were daddy Johns and Dahl. They were obviously professionals with professional gear. BTW are the bounty hunters a real thing in the USA or is it only movie stuff?
There were some rumors about TV series called Merc City, which should be about mercs from Riddick´s universe but I don´t know if Toombs would be there too or if the series will ever be made. But this universe is so cool and interesting there could be made endless number of spin-offs and backstories. Unfortunatelly this is probably never gonna happen because it´s not mainstream, commercially extra-successful stuff.

Actually surprised to realize Riddick went non-lethal in this scene. Yeah, he left them stranded on a freezing planet, but he didn't kill them personally. That's pretty rare when he's not on a timer.
Priorities. With a whole planet to reach and search through to find the guy who'd hired such a sloppy crew, he decided it wasn't worth the wasted time.
The third guy definitely was killed. Rocks broke his fall. Riddick wasn't purposely saving them. It's more accurate to say he didn't care, he just wanted the ship. All he had to do was cut a strap/ pull a guy out the door. Gravity did the rest. By this point, Riddick is in survival mode. Though he does occasionally kill for sport (the tea cup was him entertaining jack and killing him quickly got the idea across to the rest to piss off).
just have to say the guy giving out spatial awarness from looking over tombs shoulder.... that is pretty impressive (yes its part of the script but imagine if that was his actual skill)
Love how the passages are wide enough for the ship....and ample hiding spots for Riddick landscape wise...... almost videogame levels of convenience.....

I've always thought The Chronicles of Riddick and the Riddick universe is a lot of fun. I like the lore and story behind Riddick and can't wait for the next movie centered around his home world, Fury. Also, check out the video games, Escape from Butcher Bay and Assault on Dark Athena. Both expand on his character.
Best scene in the movie. Then it's all downhill from there. Oh, and the scene where Riddick ends up making friends with the vicious armored kitty-cat creature. That scene's pretty good, too. "It's an animal thing."
I feel like Riddick lets a few bounty hunters live just to spread the legend in hopes that they just stop trying. In John's case he's one of a small number of people that see the monster and have enough brain damage to try again.

From the conversation between Riddick and Johns in PB when Johns asks Riddick to kill Jack and use him as bait, calling it "triage", and Riddick says: "When I did it you called it a murder." implies Riddick is some kind of ex-merc or ex-soldier who had to make a hard decision and sacrifice some of his men to save more people and was blamed for it and put into the criminal cathegory. It´s also very likely that Johns was his colleague. It would explain why he was so successful in fighting him and capturing him. He knew him well, he knew who he was messing with.

Actually surprised to realize Riddick went non-lethal in this scene. Yeah, he left them stranded on a freezing planet, but he didn't kill them personally. That's pretty rare when he's not on a timer.
Priorities. With a whole planet to reach and search through to find the guy who'd hired such a sloppy crew, he decided it wasn't worth the wasted time.
The third guy definitely was killed. Rocks broke his fall.
Riddick wasn't purposely saving them. It's more accurate to say he didn't care, he just wanted the ship. All he had to do was cut a strap/ pull a guy out the door. Gravity did the rest.
By this point, Riddick is in survival mode. Though he does occasionally kill for sport (the tea cup was him entertaining jack and killing him quickly got the idea across to the rest to piss off).

He needs the mercs to infiltrate Crematoria unsuspiciously. This is why he also didn't disable the tracking beacon on the ship.
The coat blowing in the wind when he is on top of the ship looks awesome.

I've always thought The Chronicles of Riddick and the Riddick universe is a lot of fun. I like the lore and story behind Riddick and can't wait for the next movie centered around his home world, Fury. Also, check out the video games, Escape from Butcher Bay and Assault on Dark Athena. Both expand on his character.
Best scene in the movie. Then it's all downhill from there. Oh, and the scene where Riddick ends up making friends with the vicious armored kitty-cat creature. That scene's pretty good, too. "It's an animal thing."

I feel like Riddick lets a few bounty hunters live just to spread the legend in hopes that they just stop trying. In John's case he's one of a small number of people that see the monster and have enough brain damage to try again.

From the conversation between Riddick and Johns in PB when Johns asks Riddick to kill Jack and use him as bait, calling it "triage", and Riddick says: "When I did it you called it a murder." implies Riddick is some kind of ex-merc or ex-soldier who had to make a hard decision and sacrifice some of his men to save more people and was blamed for it and put into the criminal cathegory. It´s also very likely that Johns was his colleague. It would explain why he was so successful in fighting him and capturing him. He knew him well, he knew who he was messing with.
