This song is criminally underrated in my opinion...the whole album is actually. There is not a single bad song on this entire album, there's a reason it's in my top three favourite albums of all time. Just everything about this album is perfect, the powerful guitars, the creative melodies, the powerful lyrics and the bone-chilling vocals. Not to mention the backing vocals. I have never heard such incredible backing vocals on any other album. They are usually so subtle that you don't notice them, but if you pay attention you will hear them and it will change the way you hear the song. Lithium is a great example of that, as is this one.
This song is conjunction with Hello, showcases Amy's abilities to convey so much emotion and pain in her vocals and lyrics. I can never hear either one without being brought to tears.😢
BTW I love that you are paying attention to those lil details, don't be sorry for it, it's interesting that you have such a good ear bc some fans haven't even payed attention to those details you indeed are hearing, and if that happends to you on the first listen, well that's amazing. Most Evanescence songs have all this layers and you could even listen to them 10 years later and still find some lil arrangements in there that prob you never payed attention before bc you focused in other parts. Please do more Evanescence songs
I've always love how complex some songs are on The Open Door, the thing that many didn't like it's that the whole album was the opposite of Fallen, Fallen was more like upbeat or radio friendly in a way, all songs were bangers, meanwhile in TOD you got songs where each song takes it's own time and spare in the universe of itself sounding not like a radio hit single but in a creative experimental sounding song. This happends with Lose Control, Like You, The Only One, Cloud 9, Snow White Queen, Lacrymosa they all have their unique flavor to it and in verses you hear all this lil sounds and effects, the orchestration and piano bits on point, very interesting guitar parts. If you take them to radio they prob wouldn't do amazing but that's even part of the reason why all Evanescence non singles songs are worth listening to, bc they can bring so much in their own unique sound. On their selftitled album, some songs that I feel are underated are Swimming Home, Secret Door, Erase This, Oceans, Sick, The Change, because they all have things like that where you hear an interesting melody, guitar chords or sounds, programming, or the way the synths or lil nuances sound make each song unique.
And still has yet to listen to 'All That I'm Living For' and 'Good Enough'. I can't choose a few representative songs from TOD. I just tell people to listen to the entire album.
@@ronaldmorgan7632 Verses in ALTILF reminds me of Lithium in verses in the sense of guitar notes flowing with orchestra and Am's voice and slower beat, but chorus is like good and catchy very sinlge-like, if they would've chosen that instead of Sweet Sacrifice or afterwards it would've work perfectly as a single. For me it's a good song that describes the album aswell.
Thank you! You are so kind! This lifted my spirits for sure! I cried throughout this reaction, I love it so much! This is one of my all time favorites in terms of speaking to my soul but the guitar work, piano, and haunting vocals make this one unique. I always interpreted this as her calling to her sister in heaven from a place of pain and wanting to be there with her at peace, but not intending anything beyond that. Amy could never sing this song live, ever, too emotional, but I hope one day she does. Terry’s guitar work with her is so good too!
Powerful song indeed! This song perfectly illustrates the strong bond of familial blood. Amy's voice conveys a sense of longing desperation and somber resolve. It's melancholy and beautiful! 😥
This song cuts deep in me cuz it's about her sister that died when they were lil kids and I also lost my sister when I was 8 years old she was 17 so I'm the lil sister but it's been so long ago I'm almost 45 now. But when I hear this it reminds me of her. Absolutely haunting dark and beautiful.
Two reactions to Evanescence songs on the same day, THANK YOU. I've been waiting for weeks. Don't get me wrong, I like your entire channel, but the reactions to Evanescence are the best
Thank you Gustavo for your comment! Yeah I figured I would do this one special for my friend, and I'm glad it helped satisfy people like you who watch the evanescence reactions :)
my favourite thing about your reactions is how you go out of your way to read up on the lyrics and the meta behind the songs. Love the lyrical analysis as well as your attention to all the sonic details. Genuinly enjoy watching your reactions, keep it up🙏🏻
Glad u liked this one too - I believe u only have Snow White queen, all that I’m living for, and good enough left to react to from this album? unless u react to call me when ur sober also but I’m sure u have heard that many times since it was the lead single off the open door. I think u should do “good enough” last and react to the full version with the intro and then the music video (which does not have the intro) cuz the music video does really embody the meaning of the song and it being about “the light at the end of the tunnel” as Amy said. Just too bad they didn’t include that beautiful intro In the video... Also “good enough” has always been one of my favorite songs to play on the piano (esp the intro) so don’t leave that out lol - looking forward to the last reactions from the open door!
I greatly appreciate your attention to the guitar work in each reaction video. As someone who has been listening to the band for years, I feel like I pick up on those little nuances more as I’ve grown, and it’s refreshing to hear them discussed here. Excellent song, and excellent review!
I think you should make a list of top 10 Evanescence's song that you like. And other artists that you've reacted. And I'm looking forward to you react end of the dream from Evanescence self titled and from Synthesis. I can imagine your reactions hahaah
This song always gets me wow. Amy's sister's death when she was younger really shaped the writing and melodies through the years imo, even when not so obvious here. This song also flows into Lose Control on the album, the transition is iconic. The guitar work on the self-titled album is HEAVY and so so good.
Before, this was one of the songs that I had trouble relating to from a lyrical perspective. But your analysis made me look at this song from a technical perspective. It's a beautiful song and it confirms for me that this is still my favourite album, although The Bitter Truth is a close second now. :) And don't feel rushed by all of us encouraging you to react to Evanescence faster: we're just impatient and I think your reactions are definitely worth the wait!
I really enjoy your reactions, you help me to notice sounds I never paid attention before 🤭🤭but I think it's just I just get deep lost into Amy Lee's voice lol. Can you react to "Evanescence - Understanding"... Please 🙏
Since you briefly mentioned U2: Amy did a cover of their song With or without you, could you possibly do a reaction to that one somewhere down the line? I actually kinda hate the original, but i looove what Amy did to it.
Oh how cool! I didn't know about this cover. So I actually love U2, and that is one of my favorite songs of theirs lol. I will add it to the list, thank you
We will patiently wait for your next Evanescence reactions, no prob! The Open Door is better than Fallen hands down. The Bitter Truth also phenomenal. Basically you will love all their songs some more than others but they do good work always. Their sounds ebbs and flows with all the changes they’ve been through and they work their magic each time. Can’t go wrong.
her sister was 3 amy 6 and they went to amy at school to tell her that her sister hsd died... it affects amy a lot... so many of her songs r dark and about her struggles with dealing with it... i think it still does even though she claims it dont anymore
Love your reaction, please check out Evanescence( 2011 self-title album) too, 3rd album it's so underrate :( i recommend song like Made of Stone (Underworld Awakening theme soundtrack) A New Way To Bleed (Avengers soundtrack) Disappear (fan favorite also band live favorite)
I don't mind that your ear tends to focus on the cool guitar work because MY ear gravitates to piano and strings, so I often don't appreciate the intricate guitar work as much. Having you notice, and point it out gives more nuance for ME to listen to and focus on.
Thanks for the Great Reaction as always! Your Evanescence reactions make my day and cheer me up! Thank you so much! It's one of my favorites! Please could you react to Evanescence - All that I'm living for, Haunted, Never go back (2011 version and Synthesis version, Imperfection (official video and Synthesis version)? Please could you react to Evanescence - Haunted (Lyric video Fallen and Live version)?
goosebumps at "there's room inside for two" ,hard line...

Agreed, it is my favourite album of all time. Fallen is incredible, but the Open Door is far superior.

The Open Door is the album Amy has explored a lot of low notes. This song is one of them.
Powerful song indeed! This song perfectly illustrates the strong bond of familial blood. Amy's voice conveys a sense of longing desperation and somber resolve. It's melancholy and beautiful! 😥

The bass and piano blended as well throughout the use of the sharps and flats that catch one off guard.

Hey buddy! Long time no see! I think that's a great idea. I can picture how that would go too, that would be cool!

Love this song & appreciate you reacting to this song 💗 💫
awesome reaction!
Very cool🤘You've got to react to "Farther Away" (live) one of their heaviest songs live🔥
I really enjoy your reactions, you help me to notice sounds I never paid attention before 🤭🤭but I think it's just I just get deep lost into Amy Lee's voice lol.

La Puerta Abierta
My heart is broken is my all time favorite of there’s. If you haven’t checked it out you really should!
Evanescence isnt just Amy Lee, so dont apologize for reacting to the instrumentals.. idk whats up with people on this comment page.
Good job my friend may i suggest one small thing, react a little less over the music.
Keep up the good work! I just can't get with you on this.
I don't like Evanescence🙄
My sympathy for her loss, none the less.
