    Ryuzo and Jin as children are very friendly and kindred in that they are aspiring samurai, but the former goes down a path of dark reflection in contrast to the other. I think Ryuzo suffers from an inferiority complex; he is envious of Jin's status and advantages of being the Jito's nephew, hence the tournament was very important to him in order to escape his lowly position and achieve greatness on level with Jin. But Ryuzo is not only bested in skill but constantly outshone in reputation by Jin. Ryuzo is driven by ambition, he sincerely regards Jin as a friend but is conflicted by inadequacies from being in Jin's shadow which alienate him. Jin, as the Ghost, is a hero and liberator who has sacrificed much; but Ryuzo, under the Khan's command and with power, is a traitor and murderer of his own people.

      Just like Uchitsune and the Ghost of Yerikawa are two plausible types of what Jin could have been if he lost himself to bloodlust, Ryuzo is the kind of person that Jin could have been if he was never raised by Lord Shimura.

      Ryuzo didn't have samurai virtues as he fled from battle which samurai never do. Iki island would've been a better place for him and his straw hats to prosper. That's bandit and raider island and maybe could've become a bandit or pirate king

    Only Jin felt more beyrayed than I did. Honestly I thought they were gonna reveal that Jin had a little Ghost in him even at a young age and say he cheated but no he won fair and square and was the better swordsman. Ryuzo killing innocent villagers and his role in Takas death to me was the final straw. He is the person I felt most satisfied killing other than the Khan

      Taka's death was his own fault.. arrogance got the best of him, he knew he wasnt trained and its never good to become a warrior at a later age.. every man is responsible for his own destiny.
      Ryuzo to me was the underdog I truly sympathised with. Yeah he betrayed Jin but he did it all to feed his men.. being a leader takes a lot of weight on your shoulders and he did what he had to do, say what you want but he was NOT part of no Samurai clan.. he had his own men to look after, even tho he betrayed Jin..he would have risked it all for his men.. he was a great leader thru it all. Everyone is an asshole to someone right ? You just got to stay loyal to those are wit you and he was not part of the Sakai clan so he didnt really betrayed no one

    Ryuzo annoyed me! He couldn’t take responsibility for anything! Everything that was wrong with his life, was Jin’s fault! He had no loyalty to his friend (Jin), and when things got to hard, with Khan, he expected Jin to save him, by lying for him. He just annoyed me with his whining.

      I think because he chose to cut his losses with Koten. The Khan order Ryuzo to stay behind and kill Jin, but Ryzuzo must have realised he had no chance, hence appealed to emotion and friendship in hopes that he would be spared and avoid being executed as a traitor. In the end, it’s shows how selfish cowardly he was, but it’s also tragic.

    • @kaydens6964

      @@heartlessangel2910 If you think about his actions from the beginning, its likely he was pushed into the betrayal by his men who were held captive. The island already belong to the invader from their perspective, all they needed to do was to survive somehow, remember Ryuzo captured Jin once, so there are some truth about wanting to go back after being forced to commit atrocities against his own people by Khan, if you lose to him at the second 1v1, he also apologies. Its funny because Tomoe caused far more damage than Ryuzo, but she was forgiven lol

    • @heartlessangel2910
      @heartlessangel2910 3 месяца назад

      @@kaydens6964 I disagree, but it's an interesting thought. I don't think there's anything strong to suggest that he joined the Khan out of pressure from the Straw Hats; Ryuzo simply made an executive choice out of concern for his men and despaired at the fact the Monguls were seemingly winning. Add this on top of distrust of the island's samurai and his alienation from Jin as contributing factors. Ryuzo is a traitor, a coward, made the wrong choice, but at least he was remorseful and aware of his error, to an extent.

    • @kaydens6964
      @kaydens6964 3 месяца назад

      @@heartlessangel2910 The reason I believe he might be under pressure from his men is because, the inciting event was the capture, and he was not among them. During the captivity the Ronin were fed with good food, its Khan's way to show what its like working for him. From the duels vs Kojiro's six blades, we know that there are all types of people end up as ronin and most of them do not share the samurai code, they are not samurai at the end of the day. If Ryuzo's best fighters wanted to join Khan for not having to worry about the next meal, there isnt really much Ryuzo as a new leader can do in that situation, and the group was all he had left. Obviously betrayal is still betrayal, and war brings out the worst of people but compared to say Masako's sister, things aren't exactly black and white imo.

    I just have to ask so please don´t kill me. When Ryuzo betrayed Jin. Could you really blame him. I mean put yourself in his place. Your men are starving wounded and weak. You care for them. Jin asks your help so save his uncle. Yet Khan says help us and you get reward. If you still say:Yes Ryuzo was just an asshole because he betrayed me. To that I say. If your family was in same messed up situation as Ryuzo. You would most likely agree to save them. I´m not agreeing what Ryuzo did. Yet I´m not blaming him either. Ronin are unpredictable.

      Also brings up another point in a later side story with Mongol Chieftain Altan. Jin and Yuna have been trying to free the townsfolk from the Mamushi brothers whilst they were aiding Altan. When the fight comes, Altan brings up a hypocrisy of Jin during their fight. He kills his own people in the name of justice regardless of who they were, also bringing up how Ryuzo turned on him. While Jin was helping the people, he did leave a sense of fear. Altan also brings up how Jin does whatever he needs to survive but despises any who do the same. I'm a bit disappointed we didnt get more of that side who dont exactly like the Ghost as a hero but rather as a demon

      But the problem there is though, he did not just betray Jin though, or just not turn up to the rescue mission. Instead he allowed his men to go out and torment the people of the Island, and be partners in committing the crimes we see.
      Yeah his men where hungry and he betrayed to get food for them okay, but that does not then justify him letting his men go out and ravage the Island.

      I don't know if this is intentional or not but it kinda highlights part of his character trait. He's pretty mediocre and likes to blame others for his shortcomings.
      One example is when he mentions how he lost to Jin in a tournament and blames Jin for not going easy on him. When Jin said he would have hired him, he suddenly has a backbone and doesn't want Jin's charity. In one same conversation, he frames Jin as the problem for two different things with polar opposite reasons. One being Jin not throwing him a bone, another for Jin trying to throw him a bone. And this is on top of him possibly being a pretty average fighter.
      If you think of him as just some narcissistic guy with no real talent, him sending his men (that are decent archers) to raid Mongols for food on an empty stomach instead of hunting wild games kinda make sense.

    I had a former friend like Ryuzo once. We both got along. But we both liked the same girl. She used to always want ro hangout with me. One day, she changed out of nowhere. So I blocked and deleted her number because of her bad attitude. Because of her still being friends with him, he somehow started hating me for no reason 🤷 I also blocked and deleted his number. Sometimes you think you have friends until they turn on you out of nowhere.

    Ryuzo’s ego was above feeding his men For example not wanting Jin to help with the raid of mongol supply line which eventually led to getting his men captured and at the end led to betrayal This alone showed proving his leadership without Jin was more important then succession of the mission If he only accepted his defeat and swallowed his pride helped Jin or at least accepted his second chance Jin gave in castle kaneda his men would have been rewarded by Shimura accepted as official clan Not to mention him leaving his men to die at the end knowing they are no match for Jin Didn’t even really care about fate of his men but himself asking Jin to lie for him throwing away the only thing he desperately he held on to showed how shallow he really was Ryuzo was a weak minded person with low self esteem which led him to make dumb choices
