One of the coolest details from the game is that the first stealth kill he does, he really struggles with because of how it’s against the code. But the wind picks up to make noise to cover the sound of the struggle. We later find out that his father’s spirit controls the wind and that his father also used to disobey the code, doing things such as stealth kills and not showing mercy. He was covering the sound because he approved and knew Djin was doing what was necessary.
And another thing. Jin will mutter to himself randomly when he does something dishonorable for the first time like backstabbing (This is how we win) or throwing a black powder bomb in an ambush, (There's no honor in this... The Mongols don't deserve honor.) culminating when he uses poison for the first time. When he does, he'll flashback to Lord Shimura's lecture about looking the enemy in the eye when slaying them. (Forgive me, Uncle.)
The combat system in this game is incredible, you feel very clunky at first, but you become smoother as the game progresses, and towards the end, when you’ve unlocked all the moves, you legit feel like a samurai master who can take on anyone, and look amazing doing it.
@@blumiu2426well I'd even be willing to argue that the subtlety of their game design, making standoffs progressively more difficult until they become so difficult that you'd just naturally give up and start becoming a Ghost by the end of region 2 and into region 3, less about being Samurai or Thief/Ninja and becoming the Ghost, who employs any and every tactic for an advantage
Totally, Love the gameplay variety, it was well implemented in contrast to what arpg AC earlier did that progression easily broke the game that heavily rely on enemy scaling to make it challenging.
Near the end when discussing accuracy, the game sorta accounts for itself, i.e. Jin telling Khotun that he will be forgotten when irl (as you mentioned) there are no accounts of him. Also the weather during their final encounter is stormy if I remember, lending credence to the real storm that wiped out the mongols at sea
Lord shimura was delusional in my opinion. The mongols were an overwhelming force and took advantage of their code to take over their home. They couldn't keep doing the same thing and hoping they'd win, they needed a change of tactics and if he had worked with Jin, Jin wouldn't have descended to the depths he did.
When a shrine in Tsushima was destroyed via storm, you had LOADS of fans of the game donate to resurrect the shrine with names of all who donated engraved in the pillars! It’s AWESOME!
I expected simple open world slasher with pretty graphics, but the story was very good. I liked parts with Yuriko, simple and nicely written with unexpected ending.
It all boils down to story and characters. Much of the character quests were just as impactful as the main story. Which made them an experience rather than a chore. The more you play them, the deeper you get to see their inner demons. That's why this is my personal favorite from the PS4 selection.
He’s known Jin since birth, he’s raised him from a scared child into a formidable warrior and “honorable” man. He’s in denial, he’s confronted with losing his legacy and his only remaining family in that moment. He could’ve lied and arrested yuna, accused her of poisoning/drugging Jin and manipulating him into a dishonorable path, but he instead arrests Jin n let’s yuna go free just based on Jin’s words/ admission of guilt. I feel like lord shimura is more of a slave to his personal values than to any set code of honor. Also why didn’t they just spill the milk n burn the poisoned mongols so there’s be no trace of the “crime” or way for them to recreate the poison?
I honestly felt yuriko loved Jin’s dad with all her heart she was clearly a kunoichi at one point and chose to dedicate herself to his father one doesn’t do that especially as a ninja unless you either admire or love someone deeply
Did not expect you to do a breakdown on one of my favorite games ever. Everything about this game was top tier. Can’t wait to play it again on Pc someday.
Important note: bushido code did not actually exist, samurai could be employed as ninja (ninja themselves were not a clan themselves, just a job) and honor was not held to such a high standard. Still good game though
Obviously. This is a romantisized telling of historical events. While it is based on a real invasion, everything such as events, names, etc are fictional.
@@syphernynx4186actually he’s right. As a start point I recommend reading Oleg Benesch “Inventing the way of the Samurai, internationalism, and Bushido in modern japan”. Bushido as we know it is a modern myth. Medieval historians of Japan ignore the term and do not discuss this notion of Bushido existing in their own scholarly works either.
@@syphernynx4186I always love when someone says “you’re wrong” and then proceeds to offer no arguement or evidence to support why they stated that. For starters, Bushido as we know it is a myth. Westerners took “Bushido” and basically turned it into a form of Japanese chivalry. Just like chivalry while it was a “guideline for moral behavior” it was often ignored and accepted to have no place on the battlefield. Secondly, Shinobi were basically just the special forces and/or battlefield scouts. Many Shinobi were in fact Samurai and when we hear of Shinobi clans we aren’t hearing about clans of Ninjas but instead are hearing of a Samurai Clan known for its subterfuge and unconventional warfare methods. But at the end of the day they were just specialized samurai. In conclusion, if you’re going to claim someone is wrong g please at least have the dignity and self respect to provide evidence for why you feel the way you do.

I kind of liked the wording in the near end of the game that, when faced with another Mongol invasion of the main land they state "a storm is coming" and it was later storms that destroyed the mongol's attempt to invade japan, possibly hinting it would be Jin and his efforts that would route the Mongol invasion and then history would later attribute it to a 'storm'.
So glad you're covering this! My favorite aspect of this game is the music. The gameplay and story are great but that music is just so captivating to me
Game deserves a sequel. There was a 2nd mongol invasion of japan and they had the 2nd largest invasion by sea in history. Now idk how far the mongols got into japan but the idea of having the mongols establish a foothold and making pushes to the shogun and the capital would literally print money. An idea for a coop campaign also works too since they could just write jin to have an apprentice as a way to uphold his legacy and clan sakai's. Jin making the forst ninja clan in secret would pretty sick although ninjas werent really running around until another 200 years i think. Either way it's a fantastic opportunity to have a game set across japan with mongols invading and there being potential coop. Call it Ghost of Japan or Ghost of the Shogun
The story of the ghost is said and done. Any sequel would be hard pressed to live up to the original. However a similar game would do very well for itself without the constant comparison of the original

Kinda sad that the Tales of Tsushima were left out of this. They were pretty awesome and defintely worthy of a lore and order treatment.
