I know that was difficult to eat, but imagine the talent of not only preparing it while traveling, but plating and presenting it as well. Absolutely top notch!
What a wonderful experience! You can't put a price on that! Wonderful cuisine, awesome service! For us, your viewers it was a real bargain!! ;) Thanks for taking us along!
Wow - Aru Ressha is simply gorgeous. I loved where you were seated, with all of the lovely wood, but I think I might have gone for car#1 myself. I really liked the open, airy feel, and the fact that you could see out the windows on both sides of the train. The meal was delectable looking, from that complex appetizer to the quartet of delicious desserts. I bet it wasn't easy eating anything which could spill from your spoon, with all the bumps and jostles. The table service was so unique, with the wooden utensils and the hand-blown bubble glass bowl - so elegant! Thanks for taking us along on this special trip with you. I'm so glad we could come along!
Absolutely spectacular design of the train. Everything--The ceiling, dividers, walls, even the bathroom was so good to see. Thank you for taking us on this trip.
This train is surely the Japanese version of the Orient Express. Distinguished and full of character. The classical music playing softly projected a very peaceful atmosphere. The food was simply awesome. I was quite excited with this unique experience. Thank you so much for taking us with you on this wonderful journey.❤
I was fortunate enough to board this train on March as well, but from Hakata to Yufuin instead. The menu is the same as the one in this video. Before we board the train, we got a warm welcome from the staff despite being a foreigner who know very limited Japanese. As a group of 3, we instead booked the open table at Car 1. In my opinion the open table feel less congested then the room. Though the privacy and exclusiveness is something to consider with your booking. Service is simply impeccable. The staff really took care of us. The atmosphere is delicate without being too formal. English menu was provided and the staffs do speaks English. But do note that even they can speak fluently, it could be still be pretty challenging for them to explain everything fully in English. Meal is the same you see in this vlog. Though the appetizer and the fish dish are especially memorable. The appetizer is a twist to a traditional Japanese steamed custard (茶碗蒸し) presented like a dessert. The olive oil on the fish dish really brings the dish to the next level. Easily one of the best olive oil I have tried. (And lol I have tried every single drink on the drink menu, even the spring water, which you do taste a slight difference. It's like comparing distilled water to Evian) Overall even though it is an expensive ride, it is truly a remarkable and unique experience to enjoy. In my opinion it is total worth it and a must-try if you are visiting Kyushu and got the time and budget. Side note: In my trip the train had a brief stop at Tanushimaru Station (田主丸駅), where you can find Kappa(?) themed statues around the station. They even got some friendly locals selling souvenirs right by the the train.
We are all glad you decided to take this train. As someone who just loves train trips, I would do this if I could the meal is not important as I would just do it for the love of trains and the scenery but I will say the rocking of the train could put me to sleep. Thank you for showing us.
me too, and I will. Just trying to figure out if i'm brave enough to do it solo style, trains and ferries and buses. that's how i'd like to roll. maybe soon!
I haven’t watched this channel in over a year. Life has been busy. I come back to binge watch the content I missed, and this channel has exploded! Congratulations Solo Travel Japan!
As a railway fan, I love the whole experience that you portrayed in your video! Kind of reminds me of The Orient Express in Europe, which was recreated by LV after many years of being discontinued. Thank you Solo-san for showing us this wonderful historical exploration.
Everything looks fabulous. I would enjoy a trip like this. One of our local railways does a dinner theater train, and that's fun, but this is so elegant. Thanks for taking us along.
I'm surprised you didn't get motion sickness. Especially when you were eating! Would love to experience this trip! Maybe some day. Thanks for taking us along, thanks for posting it. Appreciated.
it's ironic that i'm watching you feast on forest riscotto and vegtable gardens sipping chardonney in Japan while i feast on ramen and sip sake in Canada. We always want what the other has i guess. thanks again solo!
There are times when the experience of something is so wonderful and unique it is worth the extra money. This seems like one of those experiences. The money is high but not inaccessible. Thank you for sharing this with us.
I really enjoyed your trip, so elegant.. the decor was French Renaissance think Louie the 15th. I loved the Japanese blending of the decor Japan and the french, and the lovely way they showcased food and wine from Japan...I really hope you savored every minute.
What a fun trip! Even though it was incredibly expensive, it’s not like you’re going to do it often. And considering the quality of the food and the experience, it was money well spent. Except for the window. I’ve never seen you drink so much 🎉 lol you party animal.
All the people involved in bringing this train to life, operating it, and serving the riders of it should be *extremely* proud. This is an amazing train run by amazing people. I'm a big rail fan and this is hands down one of the BEST passenger trains I've seen. 🥲
What an amazing train, train ride, and meal. The train is beautiful inside and out. I've never seen an appetizer as beautiful as the one you were severed. Not going to ask what beef cheeks are, but glad you enjoyed it. Without the fancy interior the train reminded me of the trains that were in service when I was a child. Loved everything about today's journey. Will be there for the next one. Take care, stay safe.
Beef cheeks are from the cows face. They have cheeks like we do. The meat is very tender as the cheeks just sit there and are NOT a working part of the face. Therefore, it is an expensive cut of meat as there are only 2 per cow. You also find it in halibut fish. You'll rarely see a complete fish as fish mongers take the cheeks because the two cheeks are worth more than the rest of the fish you've cut them from. Again, very delicate and tasty. And of course, pricey, but worth it for both species.
@@nancys2212 I instinctively knew where beef cheeks came from . . . I just have never seen them in the grocery store. As for Halibut, It's been so over fished, I'm surprised there are enough left for the fisherman to take many cheeks. Thank you for your reply. much appreciated.
WOW!! What a gorgeous stylish train!!! And the open platform with nice surroundings gives a kinda nostalgic scene! Amazing inside! No wonder why the cost of an excellent restoration work! Thanks or sharing buddy! Saludos!
As a solo traveler this would bring me so much joy. Hop on a plane. Ride this train while listening to the rocking and classical music as I indulge in the intricate fine dining all by myself 😅. Such a treat. Thanks for another great video
Wow things have really changed. I remember during pre-COVID times when the savoury foods were only served in like a small wooden bento set thing as a combined first course, with 3 or 4 dessert courses after that.
This was lovely, from start to finish. Those compartment doors were a joy, and each course seemed to top the one preceding it. And to top it off, you have a knack for capturing sunrises and sunsets at their prettiest. Thanks for sharing this journey!
STJ!! Thank you for sharing another quality experience from Japan. As soon as I saw the title, I was waiting for the !!. Totally enjoyed it, thank you again from the Netherlands!
Even with all the other amazing things shown, I was most surprised by the fact that in the restroom there was an SOS button near the floor. I assume for guests who fall and have a hard time getting up again. Such thoughtfulness in thinking and design. Funny that they were playing the traditional violin music used in so many movies to show that someone is in a rich environment LOL.
Beautiful train and the meal looked delicious! My only complaint is, you shouldn’t be expected to sit without a view. What does it matter you are a single person traveling!! At $70.00 per hour, I would demand a sit with a view!
The train is stunning!! So beautiful and the food looked delicious! The shaking would be so annoying! Be honest, STJ. You were dying for a curry rice, weren't you? 😉
What a beautiful old train. Yes it is expensive but what a lovely and unique experience to have. The water glass was so pretty with the cute emblem at the bottom and the food and wine looked amazing.
Beautiful train and amazing food! 🚉 As bumpy as the ride was, you're lucky that you didn't break your nose trying to take a drink or stab yourself in the eye with a fork trying to eat!😳 It was overall a great experience 👍 Thanks for taking us along!
Yes you can, it was 281USD :D

"Mimosa Blooming Vegetable Garden Tailoring" I love it! 🤣
I love how the roof matches the framerate at 21:07 🤩
Absolutely spectacular design of the train. Everything--The ceiling, dividers, walls, even the bathroom was so good to see. Thank you for taking us on this trip.
Such beautiful craftsmanship on this train, those wooden doors and panelling is pure talent 👌 Thankyou Solo-san 🤘🤩🤘
Everything, from the train itself to the dishes, to the utensils, to the food itself, was like art. Thank you for sharing!

All the food looked amazing, but honestly, I was all about that hand carved spoon. So elegant!!
I would have forked out for that spoon
First class on train + booze = a great time. I recommend it highly, and the more people you travel with the better.
Ironic tho that his channel is called " Solo Travel Japan " but he takes thousands of us along on his journeys.
Seems like a bouncy ride, but great food and scenery. The decor is very gilded-age. Thanks for taking us along!
The train shaking keeps the flavors of the food mixing together 🚂 🥬🧄🧅🦐
Ooooh, can't wait to watch this one later. I love to watch these while snuggled up at bedtime.
Honestly would hate the constant shaking of the train but I’d say it’s worth it for the food and feel of the train. It’s gorgeous
if you don't wanna visit japan after watching these awesome videos there is something wrong with you
As always STJ - thank you for taking me along. What a lovely ride....and oh that appetizer! YUM!!
We are all glad you decided to take this train. As someone who just loves train trips, I would do this if I could the meal is not important as I would just do it for the love of trains and the scenery but I will say the rocking of the train could put me to sleep. Thank you for showing us.
Can't put a price on that experience!!! Looked amazing!!!

Aww I just loved it how he mentioned how you can adore the pattern of shadows the plate makes...! I usually notice stuff like that 😄
I haven’t watched this channel in over a year. Life has been busy.
I come back to binge watch the content I missed, and this channel has exploded! Congratulations Solo Travel Japan!
Great trip. And yeah, what a luxury train, even though it's only pair of DMU cars.
As a railway fan, I love the whole experience that you portrayed in your video! Kind of reminds me of The Orient Express in Europe, which was recreated by LV after many years of being discontinued. Thank you Solo-san for showing us this wonderful historical exploration.

The train itself was gorgeous but I felt it deserved a smoother rail to run over. Very nice experience to share. Thank you
Love your channel so much! ❤️👍🏻 It’s a beautiful train!
You were very poetic. What a beautiful train and experience.
This train was like you were going to a museum, so many wonderful works of art. So beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
Such a beautiful train. Thanks for showing such a unique trip.
Oh well hello, Mr. Fancy Pants. Lol! What beautiful trip. I wish I could wake up every morning to your opening shot.
What a cool train! Thank you for taking us along! 🙂

You are very kind to share this beautiful place and experiences, thank you😊
That is the prettiest train, inside and out! Lucky you! 🤩😍
Thanks!
Thanks for the super!
Oh it’s so pretty! With how it’s decorated on the outside. It feels a little steampunk-y.
This is the most beautiful train I have ever seen, so luxurious! Arigato for sharing!!!
There are times when the experience of something is so wonderful and unique it is worth the extra money.
This seems like one of those experiences. The money is high but not inaccessible.

This is a wonderful video and I’m sharing it so friends can love it too. I’m sure I’ll watch this again and again.
Thank you for sharing what beautiful train and food
The deserts looked the most plentiful and the best, all the Other portions were very small. Thanks for the video! Domo arrigato!
That's was a nice experience being there with you in your video.
This train makes me nuts because they put those wooden screens over the windows. The charm of a train is seeing the landscape rolling by.
What an amazing train, train ride, and meal. The train is beautiful inside and out. I've never seen an appetizer as beautiful as the one you were severed. "layers of deliciousness." great video
What a beautiful train! 😍Thank you for allowing us to travel with you!
Wow things have really changed. I remember during pre-COVID times when the savoury foods were only served in like a small wooden bento set thing as a combined first course, with 3 or 4 dessert courses after that.
I’m so looking forward to your video. I’m housebound and this is the next best way to travel. Great topics, lovely scenery. ❤️
This was lovely, from start to finish. Those compartment doors were a joy, and each course seemed to top the one preceding it. And to top it off, you have a knack for capturing sunrises and sunsets at their prettiest. Thanks for sharing this journey!
That looks simply amazing

I would love to do this. Thanks for the ride!
The train is stunning!! So beautiful and the food looked delicious! The shaking would be so annoying! Be honest, STJ. You were dying for a curry rice, weren't you? 😉
"There this train."
Great name for a train.
Спасибо за красивое путишествие🤗
What a stunning train! It's more like a work of art. ❤
What a beautiful old train. Yes it is expensive but what a lovely and unique experience to have.
The water glass was so pretty with the cute emblem at the bottom and the food and wine looked amazing.
i love your descriptions of the food
I liked this trip, it was very unique 🙂
Beautiful train and amazing food! 🚉 As bumpy as the ride was, you're lucky that you didn't break your nose trying to take a drink or stab yourself in the eye with a fork trying to eat!😳 It was overall a great experience 👍 Thanks for taking us along!
The way you eat, you must have been starving after the meals on the train 😂😂
由布院之森🥰I take this train a few years ago, it is beautiful especially No.4 session in the train 👍🏻
I'm enchanted with the lovely spoon and fork. Can't they be purchased online?
What an amazing restoring buildt. 😮❤
Very nice to be beside you during this trip ! Fine dining and old school train : amazing 😻
The train wasn’t really shaking, that was just Solo’s unsteadiness from the wine 🤣 What an experience! Thank you for sharing it with us.
that looked amazing ❤🏴
Oh my goodness!!! I wish I want to go and travel there someday because it's one of my favorite destination as a dream bucket list. Great video. 😊
That meal almost justified the entire ticket price on its own. It looked sublime, I envy you...!
I haven't been on a train for nearly forty years now, but this is exact sound i remember; train going across rail gaps.
Beautiful vlog wonderful Japan
An amazing trip and an amazing train with great food, but that ride yo...so bumpy
I would love to visit Yufuin some day.👍
Loved the train ride, your lucky to get ride on it
Looks fabulous, its one shakey train though.
