Evil Chinese, hot blonds, angry lobsters, and space vikings.
That movie had it all.
I think one of the reasons this holds up so well is that everyone, including Charles Middleton, was playing this seriously and not acting like they wished they were someplace else. George Clooney made that mistake whereas Christopher Reeve did not.
Love the colorized version of this early space saga! Who would have thought that Flash Gordon was first filmed in 1936. Impressive for sure.
Well put, Sherri. I always thought the series was extremely well done considering the primitive special effects and limited budget serials had back then. Bravo to the whole production crew.
And I have no doubt the audience was transported to this magical imaginary world.
Always loved these serials. However, in some scenes, the color strobing was a wee bit difficult to watch. Overall though, "A" for effort!!!
When i saw the Roman numerals in the first episode i honestly thought that i had screwed up the deciphering. MCMXXXVI? That cannot be right lol.
@@juscogens5541 In those days back then, movie visits were spectacular events and people reacted with screaming and shouting to the screen, like it would happen for real. they had a completly different perception, then we have today.
You don't realize how gorgeous those old time actresses are until you see them in color.
Oh, I realized. But it doesn't hurt.
For some of us, Buster is eye candy enough!
I was thinking the same thing.
@notfiveo :- Worth looking up!😊
You can never be an actress before if you are not beautiful, actresses right now can do plastic surgeries to be beautiful
I watched this series as a young boy at Saturday mornings matinee's back at the beginning of the 1950's it was awe inspiring to watch. I again watched the series on TV back in the 190's and although just a little dated was still very watchable. I've never watched it since it was colourised and no doubt puts a great realism to it. Although made in the 1930's I think all boys and girls would still sit and watch it.
I'm now 76 and saw these when .l was a schoolboy . They are still as enjoyable now as they were then. Just imagine what the origional creators could have done with today's technology. Many thanks for showing.
I don't know actually about new technology - it maybe not good - those scenes are incredibly muscular - underwater fighting ? not sure how much muscle is out there now to do a scene like that
I watched the first episode out of curiosity, the second for laughs now I’m hooked on the story.
So do I
Welcome to the cult!
Itˋs B-Movie-Sci-Fi-Trash @ itˋs finest !!! LONG LIVE FLASH GORDON !!!
we grew up in the very early 50s watching this series as afterschool tv or on kid's saturday morn fare, along with the great cowboy series of the times. thanks for posting flash gordon.,
Well, I am from Venezuela, I was born in 1971 and I remember this series that was broadcast on the Venevision channel, I also saw the original series of Superman, Lone Ranger and the Cisco Kid.
@@zarach9459 also Rin Tin Tin, Sky King, Annie Oakley, Howdy Doody, etc... gr-granny says 👍 NM
@@BAM-jc7uy Yes, I saw the Rin Tin Tin series on the state channel VTV, I didn't see the others although I know that they were broadcast in the past, you must understand that the VTV channel broadcast Mexican movies from the 60s to the mid-90s. Elsewhere Bewitched, I Love Genie, the Lucile Ball shows and all the '60s and '70s shows here aired 20 years later.

For some reason adding colour into this really adds another dimension. It just works!
This was a huge success because Jean Rogers was off the charts gorgeous!
In our next lives we are going to be married
No No, it will be me!@@TheCybertiger9
I'll arm wrestle you for her@@naguerea
Much better colorized Jean Rogers was a beauty.
wasn't she ? Lovely
Jean Rogers (Dale Arden) RAWRRRRRRR
"Ya know, I'm going to learn how to operate one of these things. It might come in handy."
Flash, you're a bloody genius. 😂
Jean Rogers....... Nuf said!
Back in the early 80s, the BBC used to show these chapter serials on BBC2 at 6pm daily, Mon-Fri. Great times.
I remember watching them on BBC 2
same. oh man are we getting old!
My mom had a similar experience in the 70s. Don't know if she knew at the time that these were originally played in theaters in the 30s.
@@darrelltregear756me too
As an ocean lover, I find it really beautiful how they show all the different ocean life.
Wow I remember watching this classic series as a kid.
Now I’m amazed how cool the sets, outfits and spaceships are. Musics brilliant too and I love the underwater sound effects, someone blowing bubbles in a glass of water with a straw, hilarious.
Also, Dale or Mings daughter?
Both proper gorgeous!
Ming's daughter and Dale are the original Betty and Veronica.
Dale. Aura sounds too much like Mae West for me.
Dale.
And Betty.
Jean Rogers is gorgeous but Priscilla Lawson (Aura) is my Queen. I always liked the bad girls lol
As a kid growing up in the 50's I loved this stuff.
I enjoyed this series many years ago, when I was a child
Thank you for uploading and sharing
A cinematic masterpiece - the special effects are right up there with Lucasfilm quality ! The guest appearance by Yul Brynner was also refreshing.
I'm 76 & actually appeared on an early t.v. show, in 1950 at age 4, hosted by Buster Crabbe! He interviewed
3 boys, (I'm one) & then showed one of his western movies! Right after that, his Flash Gordon serials
started on t.v. & were a great hit! Lucas & Speilberg have admitted that they watched & essentially 'stole'
"F.G." ideas for their movies!p.s. Was Jean Rogers (Dale Arden) hot or what, especially in color?
¡La verdad no veo a YUL BRYNNER!
@@bernardopinales.quimica.co6661 Open your eyes man ! he transitioned from the King and I seamlessly into this pic !
Ha ha!! The Yul Brynner comment had me in cramps. Great serial, though.
@@michaelbrandt5416 They don't make actors like Yul Brynner, Anthony Quinn, Steve McQueen etc etc anymore !
You can so easily see the influence these serials had on George Lucas. Love it.
Star Wars only exists because he couldn't get the rights to remake this, the Italians did in 1980, great movie, lame stars.
Thank you so much for bringing this cult classic to youtube. reminds us how it all started and now everything is CG.
thank you for posting! glad to enjoy this with all.
¡Gracias por tu publicación! feliz de disfrutar esto con todos.
My grandmother would tell me about going to see Flash Gordon on Saturdays when she was a girl. This must have been mind-blowing in 1936.
17:26 Damn, that Jean Rogers! For 1936 this is the closest thing to a thong I sees there, quite daring attire! If I could go back in time, I'm asking her out! THANK YOU for refining this episode especially, not just the coloring, but it's literally the next best thing to watching this in Hi-Def!
Muchas gracias!! Excelente movie serial y fantásticamente coloreada.
Great reprint . I watched some of the older prints on TCM but this was outstanding
Another well restored and colourised print.
The dials had their own symbols. Nice touch.
"Leika! Bring the helmets!"
For 1936, this was ahead of its time. Decent special effects and props, no computers involved!
Still cool after all these years.
Loved these as a kid. These were shown on UK TV in the early 70's.
I used to watch these as a kid in the late 70's on UK television. Some black and white and the later on, in colour. It amazes me how the effects, sets, music, and overall atmosphere were so good back then and dare I say, better than some of the movies we get today.
Same here though I was more a teenager, then a University student at the time. Some of us at Uni loved them so much, we used to gather as a group in the "Black and White" [TV] Common Room, and defend them against the mockers. Some of us even brought our cassette tape-recorders to record the music.
double bill summer holiday mornings on tv...
Sorry, all I keep thinking of is Star Trek: Voyager 😂 - Still this was the inspiration for countless movies and tv shows to come! 👍 - “Flash!....Ahhhhh.....King of the impossible!”
"Well, they went that way." Classic!
Thanks so much for posting. I remember as a kid first watching this, I was enthralled. and especially by Jean Rogers as the most beautiful girl in the world and with those blonde curls flowing down, it was (and still is) just too much for a little boy.
I used to watch these in the early 50's when I was a kid and they were on TV. THEY were on every day. I loved Flash Gordon ! In fact my sister and I would play Flash Gordon. I loved Ming as the villan.
All the great ideas were there in its infancy, even if primitively executed. We thank these great pioneers of film.
I remember watching this serial on channel 13 in NYC as a kid during the fifties. Ming was one SOB!
Timeless ❤😊. Thank you ❤
He actually aimed the rifle unlike modern movies. Where they wave a gun in the air and bad guy just falls down. This is better in color. Imo.
La gran expresividad en los actores, hace pensar en resabios del cine mudo, gracias excelente capítulo.
los aspectos hechos a mano de las películas antiguas son muy agradables, antes de las computadoras, esto requería mucho trabajo duro
Watched this over and over as a kid, absolutely brilliant 🤙🇬🇧
I saw these on TV as a kid in the 50's ....Buster Crabbe was cool. he played the Sci Fi hero Buck Rogers as well....later on he had a TV series with his son as a Foreign Legionnaire .
I think the stairway set at 5:25 was the same one used for Henry Frankenstein's lab in the 1932 "Frankenstein".
Well, they used some of the music from Flash Gordon in the Frankenstein film.
Yes
Its interesting to see how acting and film set technology has advanced from the 1930s.
Acting in DC and Marvel movies is not that far off from this, they're usually worse considering that by now they should be superior but the actors are not really the best of today's crop!!
Not much, you mean?
This oozes rainy (or even sunny) Sunday afternoon vibes.
Jean Rogers: SMMMMOKING!!!!!!!!!!!
I've never watched the series, but I have a pic of Jean on my wall. Infatuation

An octopus would be boring, but an octosack is exciting!
Excelente !! E a qualidade é maravilhosa .
I would watch these as a little kid scared the hell out of you Ming was a real monster Dale was stunning
i wonder if Ming walked around looking like that when he wasnt filming? lmao
I bet he did.....just to stay in character.
Imagine some actor dressed as Ming......"i want a burger.....and fries......or i will DESTROY the EARTH!"
I grew up watching these Flash Gordon shows on Saturday mornings on TV.
Loved seeing Flash Gordon at the cinema club on Saturday morning as a kid
Good stuff!
Loved this as a kid when everything was black & white. Fell in love with Liszt's Les préludes.
Watched this as a ten year old in 70's on a black and white TV, the special effects held up better than most of TV sci fi being made at the time. The only thing that seemed incongruous was Flash out and about in his underpants!
Oh wowee! Flash and Dale ...niiice 👌
Que excelente ambientación, calidad de imagen (supongo que retocadas a color y mejoradas en HD en este tiempo) y los efectos especiales tan practicos pero únicos.
Ok I’ll sign up for Buster’s Crabs 🦀 ,….please add extra butter and lemon . And two large “baked potato “ with cream!! LOL !
You can really see Buster Crabbe thinking, how do i act myself out of this Tunnel of Terror.
Please, one more gong shot !
Wow this must have been earth shattering when was released. This digital makeover is impressive.
Thank you CCC.....even though the "color" is a bit weird.....love me a bit of Flash Gordon serial. Jean Rodgers looks ethereally beautiful!
However....i'm still thinking of that space vixen Princess Aura!
A question CCC. Are you going to show a colorized version of Jungle Girl with Francis Gifford?
Just realized, the robe worn at 6:35 indicates that Ming is only a Baron. One of the lowest Royal Ranks in england. The amount of rows of ermine tails on Coronation Robes indicates rank in the Royal Line. Thats funny...
He's not English royalty
Excellent
Thank you for sharing the colorized Flash Gordon serial episode...the effort was valiant but inconsistent in quality...but it refreshed the original film. I think the Shark people should have had blue or grey skin
An excellent serial !
Seriously best movie ever ,.. ,..to make fun of !
Wow this brilliant, much better than anything the mouse house have put out😁
I remember watching these as a kid. That series introduced me to Frank Listz!! (Preludes)
*GODDAMN!! THAT WAS DAMN GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!*
*SEEING IT IN COLOR LIKE THIS, REALLY MAKES A DIFFERENCE!!!!!! - EVEN THOUGH THIS IS FAKE COLOR, NOT REAL!*
*BUT STILL , IT LOOKS GOOD!!!!*
.
*I SAW 'BUSTER CRABBE' BEFORE, IN A, I THINK A ``BUCK ROGERS`` MOVIE FROM THE 1930s* --
*BECAUSE CRABBE PLAYED BOTH CHARACTERS IN THE 1930s! --- AND I NOTICED THEN, THAT HE WAS HANDSOME! -AND THAT WAS IN BLACK & WHITE.*
*BUT SEEING HIM IN COLOR, JUST MAKES HIM EVEN MORE HANDSOME!*
*AND THE SPECIAL EFFECTS WERE DAMN GOOD!!!!!!!!!! & IN THAT 'BUCK ROGERS' MOVIE TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!*
*THIS LOOKS & FEELS LIKE = WATCHING SOMETHING FROM THE* **1960s or even1970s** *!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!*
.
*THAT BLOND WOMAN , KIND OF LOOKS LIKE 'DREW BARRYMORE' OR SOMEONE!!!HAHAHAAAHAHAA, EVEN THOUGH SHE IS FAR GREATLY OLDER THAN 'DREW BARRY MORE' !!*
.
*THIS IS AMAZING!!!!. GOOD JOB!!!!*
Had this serial been edited into a full length movie and come out in theaters in 1936, I think it would have both been a really big hit and go down as 1 of the greatest adventure movies of all time. It would have been really long, but totally worth it
it was a big hit at the movies in the 30s as a weekly series, along with the main feature, cartoons, news, a second feature and sometimes a raffle give-away on the stage.
@@BAM-jc7uy Yes. Serials are even better as serials!
It was edited into a 72 minute feature film the same year, for overseas markets only.
They made 2 sequels & cast Crabbe as Buck Rogers as well, so somebody like it. Believe it was Universal's #2 hit after Deanna Durbin musical.
Dang, Flash just straight up strangled that defenseless gong guy.
A tap on the shoulder and taking his mallet away probably would have sufficed.
Quality stuff
Even as a little kid in the 70s Ming scared the shit outta me lol
Saturday mornings on independent TV stations. Those were the days.
Saturday morning pictures, ahhh those were the days...
I use to watch this in the early 1980s on Tiswas!
Buster Crabbe was working over-time in that 20 some minutes, but Jean Rogers was worth it! What a babe!
Flash needs to make calamari of that octopus!
Octosack
Never watched these but this is interesting.
I just subscribed!!
Used to watch these on TV as a kid in glorious B&W. Wanted to take Jean Rogers home.
Looks great in colour
I was expecting the sharkmen to have a fin on their back and a prosthetic shark head, would have been cool!
BTW Dale Arden, yowza!
Flash running in the direction of the lagust monster was really a interesting revelation.
When I was a kid back around 1970 or so my dad took us to see a Flash Gordon episode at a small local movie theatre. The place was packed and the kids all sat on the floor up front. It was an episode where they were on a spaceship on the way to the moon or somewhere. Ming had hidden himself on board and at some point appeared with a lit bomb, with the fuse sizzling away. After a dramatic struggle with the fuse getting shorter and shorter, Flash was able to subdue Ming and wrestle the bomb from him. He ran to the door of the ship, wrenched it open, hurled the bomb out into space in the nick of time, and then staggered back into Dale's arms as they panted in horror and relief. Us kids all rolled on the floor screaming with laughter. On the way home we were still howling over Flash Gordon flinging open the door of the spaceship to save everyone, and my dad said, "Boy, when I was a kid that show wasn't funny, it was EXCITING!" One of my favorite childhood memories. :o)
Wonderful
My grandfather had a huge collection of Flash Gordon comics from the 1940s, 50s, and 60s. They were pristine in condition. When he passed away in 1991, they thought of all those as junk and disposed them away.
Man, that gotta hurt. Would be priceless today. I had loads of 1970s comic books as well as board games from that era, all lost. Would be worth a fortune today.
A lot of groping going on there! 😁
C'est vraiment bien joué au lieu d'avoir de nombreux effets spéciaux. Il y a de vrais personnages.
GRAZIE PER I SOTTOTITOLI IN ITALIANO!!!!😄👍👍👍
molto gradito! per altri film con sottotitoli, 👀 guarda questa playlist: ruclips.net/p/PL2gsu7VGzgdbAXTemDPg5yEW1L2oLyP_m
Lol, I love Flash's solution to being captured by the Sharkmen. Insult their leader and then beat him up.
Ming the Merciless
5:50 is she hypnotized? the gun is right there to help Flash save her
The scene around 5:20. He's descending a spiral staircase of a castle with the blonde damsel, he *places her down on a step as if she's a bag of potatoes* fends off multiple men in Romanesque armor with broadswords *bare-handed,* then, seeing that the damsel is wandering off like a sheep, slings her over his shoulder, and runs off.
It just doesn't get better than this for me.
That gong socks. It's a thin piece of tin.
Esa guera esta bien mamy va a tener mucho exito en el cine
