It’s always amazing to see Gary find gold
The scenery was gorgeous and I had lots of fun hanging with you guys
Me and Jeff spotted what looked like an old mule trail across the ravine.... something to look into next time we go up there :)

Just like all the gold areas there's always different tricks.
It's a little bit hard in those areas wander around just detect.
Of course you're always looking for some reason for the gold to be on top.
The gold in those areas seem to be flat in the ground almost has a Gravely type or Sandy type texture to it so when it freezes in the winter time and thaws it pushes up and loosens up pushes up it does it to a pretty good death because it's kind of that you know Sandy gravel type ground the Nuggets don't stay on the surface they work themselves down to the bottom of that Frozen thawed layer say anywheres from 6 in to 10 in maybe a little bit deeper some spots and since the Nuggets or flat when they're working their way down they positioned himself straight up and down like a knife making them very hard to detect because you detect the surfaces of the Target that faces the detector.
Gary you are totally right this is way different than detecting nuggets that are on the Bedrock and in clay material or in broken up bedrock those nuggets stand the surface and they have a tendency to lie flat instead of on the edge well in the Bedrock they stand on the edge but your chances of being flat to the detector is much better and you can hear them clearly.
It's not like that ground that you were hunting the weathering has a tendency to stand them on end you can't barely hear them nuggets water concentration in the tiny tiny signals.
How I figured this out the Pitts beat me up many times when they logged in those areas where they skidded the logs to the ditches and so forth it was someone in taking handful of them nuggets the flat ones and throw them out and I detected the area many X did real good right after they logged go back there the next year after it set one winter it was a lot tougher I knew there was still more nuggets there but it was tougher went back for five years later I can't find a nugget I know there's all kinds of gold there well I'm not counting the Nugget here nugget there that's no gold to me use different detector change of a coil spring back different stuff no good I brought back my digging tools Doug so much gold here went back to them hot areas and raked off foot foot and a half material there was all kinds of gold there.
Gary here are a few tricks for that particular area
go back to them areas with the proper digging tools that you found the the nuggets Hendrick off the top foot of material until you start to find the nuggets the Nuggets will lay flat and you hear them easy if you move them.
obviously if they're standing on in your going to be listening for the littlest tiniest signals which is hard anyway you look at it takes a lot of concentration and so now you're hunting with what kind of detector and they don't like little teeny signals and the nuggets are 10 inches deep.
yes you are in the realm what detector will work?
    VLF too deep!
    Pulse induction signals too small.
I have not tried to 7000 there still it's going to be a pain in the ass
the best technique I have for those areas it's go there that same year after they're done logging their even though they don't hit all the best areas and where you really wanted to detect then you will know where the hot spots are and you can come back and rake those good spots to good there
if that logging spot goes through 1 winter the nuggets are standing on end and by the end of the second winner you won't be able to it'll be just like it is if not worse.
that's what you're hunting for nose areas is one nugget is the key to the door you'll learn what the hot spots look like and you'll know where the hot spots are that you need to come back with the proper tools
Gary I know you have the proper gold knowledge to fill in the rest of the blanks good luck.
Scary I got one more thing in a lot of these areas there are stashes of tools and different things in many different ways people are welcome to use them please put them back better than what you found them if they need new handles whatever next time you come back replace needs new plastic whatever and you're using the tools do the maintenance when you come back if you're going to use them again oil the handles Xterra there are lots of these in these Prime detecting areas I don't care if they're 20 years old people still come back and use them other miners
if you find the barrels they are for you make sure you put them back sealed make sure you put the bear plates back do not cut all the vacuum packs open there's no treasures inside of them they're usually used clothes and so forth that are clean food survival things it'll send usually see on the outside to the packager so forth sleeping bags that kind of stuff and you can add to these things and you can use these things digging tools that are heavy
the people that are detecting these areas are going to find these they're yours you're inheriting knees if you open these up and don't put them back the animals will get in them handle from go bad in the Sun and rotten rain and the barrels will fill with water in one winner the whole thing will be ruined from one stupid greenhorn detectorists.
In this stupid son of a bitch well this is my mining claim now and I don't want to hear somebody else to be my money on my mind knock that shit off need to be kicked in the head
We all have the same compassion's and we're not the enemy the miners might even be dead or we use it in that area
as you wouldn't hear it these These are yours dashes please don't destroy them somebody's life might be at stake as far as survival sometimes when you push it to the extreme doing what we do and we love it and we know that is there it may be relied on these miners keep a lot of this stuff Secret to their grave.
because of this very serious disease called Gold Fever especially when greenhorns get it Insanity Gone Wild

It’s been loaded with small nuggets. Then we soaked it and smashed it and ran it through the highbanker and it’s got a lot of fine gold and pickers in it. Thanks for the info on hydraulic pits. I worked High Sierras mostly Dutch Flat in the 80s / 90s , and west of there , some of the valleys were a couple hundred across with gravel for hydrolicing , and probably a hundred feet deep + .
One thing I never did much of - metal detecting quartzs that looked mineralized - and possible gold inside .
Have you found gold inside of loose gravel ?
I get a little excited whenever you mention THE SPOT , before the covid , I hung out at a place on Saturdays that had FREE LUNCH & CHEAP BEER - called THE SPOT ;)
Never found any gold there .
Gona have to give up working No. Cal - you got it all ;)

Shoots. Snookered again. This video is triggering PTSD. Team Hawaii will lick its wounds this winter and be back for more punishment in the Spring. In the meantime I will be dreaming about: (1) big, black heavy, smooth shiny boulders ; (2) bedrock cracks that the old timers missed with their monitors, sledgehammers and dynamite; and (3) the locations of the discharge end of their sluice boxes. If those fever dreams subside, I''ll just day dream about detecting up some nuggets in the middle of the road.

I'm a young panner and have been liking watching your videos. Thanks for all of the information you are passing on. Me and my older brother have been debating about one thing and I was hoping you could offer some insight. It boils down to this: he is sure that the signs and good conditions that you speak about for good panning in California would be the same for us here in our Australian rivers, but I just feel like the geography seems so much different from California rivers to Australian rivers and that there might be different things to look for. I was hoping you could chime in whether the signs and conditions for river panning are uniform across the worlds rivers or if there are different kinds of conditions for different places?
