    I’m riding a GoCycle G4i as my daily commuter, 13 miles a day. At my age and general level of fitness, I’d never have got back on a bike without it. Everything from the auto gear change to the weight and fold ability works for me. I know it’s expensive but it has replaced my car. I love it.

    Great list , thank you! I've ridden a Brompton, (featured here, a Raleigh and a MiRider one and I opted for the MiRider, just absolutely loved it so much I ordered two, one for me and one for the Mrs!! Such great value and wonderful to ride. Should be ready for collection in a couple of weeks and I can't wait!!

    If you're after something that's actually more genuinely budget and good for local run around stuff Decathlon 500E has been working for me as my first foray into ebikes.
    20 inch wheels, about 12 miles range on highest level peddle assist, easily add a rear rack or front basket, and removable frame battery. Folds up small enough to go in car easily for local adventures in new places which is how I use it 😊

    Great review as usual.
    I just bought a G4i. A dealer had a demo with 30 miles on it for $3099. I had been watching this model, as my first folder was a ProdecoTech Phantom, and I now have the Sondors Fold and Smart Step Fold...neither are very portable. Also, I had high expectations, currently owning a Stromer ST2S, Optibike, Bulls w/Brose&Gates&Nexus8, A SWB Lightning Phantom that I converted to electric, a Trident Trikes E-Spike, and the new (Halifax made) Samurai Premium. With these high expectations, the Gocycle delivered. I mean, Traction Control?! Zero visible cables? Bluetooth? Crazy lightweight? Yep, I am impressed!

    This program accurately discusses the Fiido D3 Pro while showing footage of Fiido L3. Both are brilliant bikes, but quite differentiated.

    • @jonevansauthor
      @jonevansauthor Год назад +7

      I was just about to say that. The L3 has a 350W motor, twice the range, is heavier and has a throttle. Which is fine in the UK, as long as you have a motorbike licence, register it and tax it. Which makes it nearly pointless.

    • @MarkizVonSchnitzel
      @MarkizVonSchnitzel Год назад +1

      @@jonevansauthor You can register throttle bikes in UK? Well lucky you. I'd love to be able to do that on the continent :/
      Trying to replace my car commute with an ebike, but without throttle it is not feasable. And since I DO want to pedal, and just have a throttle as a backup on off days and to prevent/decrease sweating, emopeds are not my 1st choice in an ideal world.
      So you described it correctly, NEARLY pointles, but there are individuals crazy enough for it too :)

    • @jonevansauthor
      @jonevansauthor Год назад

      @@MarkizVonSchnitzel apparently you can do it but it sounds like a lot of work just to get a cross between a moped and an ebike.
      Honestly if it's that powerful I'd probably be far too nervous to unleash it :D I've fallen off a mountain bike at speed half a lifetime ago and I'm definitely not keen to repeat it, especially not in my 40s :D
      I'm sure the DoT will get right on sorting out our legislation for ebikes and scooters any decade now. It'll be easier in the future, probably about the time I get that Vietnamese pot-bellied pig with functioning wings.

    You didn't mention folded dimensions on any of these. For me, the first question is, does it fold to under 85cm? I.e., can I take it as hand luggage on the Eurostar under their ticket regulations? I went for the Volt SE Metro in the end, and don't regret it. The Brompton is compact, but I wouldn't get a bike with a front wheel motor, for safety reasons.

    FYI: The estarli, and most of these types of folding bikes, require the seat tube to be lowered all the way, so the bike rests on the end of the seatpost and NOT on the bikes chainring. The chainriing will get damaged otherwise. I would know about these types of folding bikes, as I own a few electric and non-electric folders (Dahon, Qualisports, Tern, Fiido).
    PS: You reviewed the Fiido L3 as #6, NOT the D3 Pro. I own the L3, I've unlocked the speed (I'm in the USA, so 20mph is legal, and the motor is 350w here). Great little bike (I call it the "boat anchor because it's so heavy). The D3 Pro is fantastic, but I love the Fiido L3.

    We’ve loved our Bromptons and over ten years travelled with them from Alaska to to southern tip of New Zealand and many, many places in between. This year we electrified them via Swytch and what fun we’ve had in UK this summer going much further from home (mostly pubs)! Trouble is, it’s spoilt us as ordinary pedalling is now very dull as we have to take them un-electric on planes as we did to Australia in September. We’ve ordered the ‘flight safe’ Swytch’, backwards compatible battery (giving limited range) and hoping will be here before next long-haul in January. Allegedly at distribution centre now.

    • @kavanobrien6547
      @kavanobrien6547 Год назад

      Do you have the old version of the switch or the new slim line batteries and what’s your opinion between the two if one may ask , I have a Brompton 65 now a was looking for a little help and because the system is. Not cheap was wondering if it’s any good.

    • @weircottage
      @weircottage Год назад

      @@kavanobrien6547 our Swytch are from one year ago, so second round of funding. The ones in a canvas cover. We went for the higher range option and the Brompton stem mounting kit that uses the bag mount block. The latter 100% worth it as keeps battery low and off handlebars. A possible compromise on this is that altering the power level is difficult and dangerous if not stationary. In reality power is rarely adjusted mid-ride.
      I’m easily 100kg and with mid to lower power settings 30 miles is possible on a full charge if not ultra hilly.
      The trickiest part of the set up was on the cadence sensor. Positioning slightly awkward and the instructions ambiguous as you need to swap bits on the pedal element as it comes assuming non-Brompton. I was ready to give up but my wife persevered 😂.
      The good thing getting the kit is that if you already have a decent Brompton this gets you an electric one still backwards compatible to non-electric. So if our flight-safe battery does not arrive before next Oz trip early January I will swap the wheels back again to save weight and possible drag. Hope this helps you or others. Message if I can help further.

      @@weircottage Very kind of you too give your time but still somewhat confused if your system is the older type the batteries being a square block or the new ones where the battery is like a mobile phone size and these one you can take on a plane because they have range of 15 km or 3o km price obviously more depending on the size of battery but both look like size of mobile phone , I think you have the older version which is as you said has a canvas cover ,but thanks for your time if you do find any feedback on the newer system could you pass on thanks take care and thanks again.

    *The only thing I like about the Brompton is that it fits in my little Mazda 3 trunk ... and that's about it.* I have a bad back and knees, when I tested it I had no issues but after buying it riding for longer distances it proved to cause much pain. If you are old and have such issues or don't want any future issues ... stay away from all 16' and smaller inch wheels. They are very uncomfortable for long distances riding. *Also, after owning it for a while the Brompton is nothing but a bunch of hype ... they don't even use any special parts, only a steel frame, heck it doesn't even have disc brakes, for the price I paid for it ($2000) it should have the top of everything.* It's nothing but a high price piece of junk, and if you want an electric you will pay double and more depending model. *It's absolutely ridiculous, I like to sell it but my reputation is more important than ripping somebody off!* For including the Brompton I should give this video a TD, but I'm just too dam nice ... but I won't give it a TU either ... just because you included the Brompton.

    I've been riding this bike for about a month ruclips.net/user/postUgkxwC0IIeIomGQVeBWg-kKJaToZkLEFIA2W and a half now and I think it's fantastic. It helps me get to work on time every day since I'm able to fit it inside of public transportation rush hour. The price is great too, people are always shocked when they ask me how much I paid for the fold up and I tell them "200". It's easy to fold and installation when it ships is insanely easy. All you have to install when the bike arrives is one foot pedal, everything else is done for you. I do recommend you carry some sort of wrench to tighten any loose screws on the handle bar and seat whenever they get a little bit loose. Other than that I think it's a fantastic bike. Easily fits in the home, can fit inside a car trunk and can even fit in subway rush hour.
