- This website accidentally turned into a joke, and then accidentally turned into something quite dark.
"RentAHitman.com is a satirical website purporting to offer contract killers for hire. The site's domain was bought by Bob Innes in 2005 as a potential site for an information technology company to be set up with his friends (playing on the use of the word "hit" as a check on a website's security or the count of web traffic). The company was never started but Innes retained the site. Upon checking the site's email inbox in 2008, he found hundreds of messages requesting contract killing services, but he considered none to be serious. When checking again in 2010, however, he found a serious request from a woman in Canada. He passed her details to the police, and she was convicted for soliciting murder.
Afterwards, Innes converted RentAHitman.com to a supposed front for a contract killing agency, though he included numerous jokes in its content to clearly signal the site is a parody. Despite this, Innes' site has resulted in several further convictions for those attempting to employ the supposed services, as he checks messages sent to him and refers any serious requests to law enforcement agencies."

the HIPPA joke wasnt about JFK assassination, just so you are aware. HIPAA is about medical record privacy, its a law in the United States protecting medical records. love your vids, have a great evening
So if someone want to get famous over night they just have to keep search for this kinda stuff and cops will totally swat them and instant fame from suing cops for police brutality...
Such an educative video. I'm joining asap
Hey Qxir, you once made a video on the Waco Siege, and at the end of that video, you briefly talked about the Oklahoma City Bombing, and mentioned that there was going to be another video on it.
Can you make a video on the Oklahoma City Bombing. It would be great to see you continue the story of Ruby Ridge, Waco, Oklahoma City.

insane how one domain went from bug finding to arresting people for attempted murder
Idk man, id say he definitely found some bugs..
That is the indeed the subject of the video.

It makes me sad that there are kids using the website to end their abuse.
Yeah, I really hope the police understood that those kids were victims, and CPS helped them.

I honestly never knew that the website is still able to catch people trying to hire a Hitman. I thought it was a neat moment at the time, but finding out that one of the cases was in 2024 is surprising for me.
Dumbassery is an infinite resource.
People come and go but stupidity is eternal
I can turn the website on and off, like a spigot, and it has no effect on submissions. There’s always someone new, somewhere else, seeking something that I neither condone or provide.
Love how much emotion he can get into such simple drawings. Legit impressive.
Thanks for the heads up Qxir, I was 23 hours into the cool off period. Another hour and I would've been screwed.
Imagine watching the beginning of the video and believing there's a site where you can rent a hitman, emailing them to have someone killed, then watching the rest of the video in prison.

The fact that scammers intentionally target vulnerable people just highlights how evil they are.
Today's TedTalk, the morals and ethics of scamming.
Yea. It would be more ethical to focus on targeting intelligent, knowledgeable, and wise people.
@@jacobshirley3457 In a way, it would. More ethical doesn't imply ethical.
I once tried to pick up a log that fell out of the fire and put it back _by hand,_ I have no doubts I'd be the type to use a blowtorch on a fly that's resting on a propane tank.
Thankfully, propane tank manufacturers generally don't make stuff that instantly catch fire. So, not a good idea, but there is a decent chance of not instantly dying.
If you dampen your hand w/ water, or have a lot of calluses, & you're quick enough, that technique works fine. Sometimes the line between genius & fool can be pretty narrow
That beginning segment on people who just “live in the moment” and never think of the consequences is beautifully done. There are a shocking amount of people who live life this way. They usually end up as drug addicts.

Ok, the Dolly Parton parody got me. This video was funny, but that.... Holy cow bro.

Those last couple of cases are really sad, words cannot fathom.
Not all heroes wear capes, but this is the most unorthodox kind of hero I've seen in a while.
Player piano style Puttin' on the Ritz for the background music.....classic
That last (pause) "no" was immaculate
One important thing I should mention:
the smartest person, and the dumbest person, can very easily be the same person. all it takes to turn the former into the latter is enough stress and emotional damage.
Happened to my mom. $300 US worth of Ebay cards that she never got back all because of a scammer who caught her on a particularly tumultuous day.
This is true.
I think you’re overestimating your mom’s IQ 💀
I'm not the sort to judge others on falling for scams. I barely have any business interactions with others and fall foul on the idea of quick money schemes, that doesn't mean I'm immune to a scam. I'm far less susceptible, but I may have that one really bad day where I'm desperate enough to fall for one.
Exactly, no one is immune to being taken advantage of and people need to realise that.
Exactly, they prey on the vulernable, it is shit. This is also similar to coincidental scamming. A perfect example is a fake UPS extra tax payment on a delivery type fake email, but on the same day you're expecting a delivery from UPS, so it makes total sense. However, obviously if you haven't bought anything it's clearly fake. When you're in the moment, you just think not much of it because it lines up with your expectations of what could happen.
I think my favourite part about this is that word has spread far and wide about this, and yet people still fall for it. If you have to pass an extra stupidity test in order to get screwed, it just makes it more fun to watch your comeuppance.
You can see it in their eyes. Blank, hollow, unfocused, stupid is an understatement.
I heard about this a while back and I'm not surprised it still collects these idiots like a bug zapper.

Imagine someone already enlisted in the US military inquiring about a murder for hire job... Dude, you already have that job.

Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.
Or just stupid people full stop.
A person is smart. People are dumb.
@@joncurtis199Actually, that's not really true.
There are studies that show crowds can be surprisingly smart when working together (like if they had to guess a weight or height for example. The average is often very close to reality).
No, a crowd is only truly dumb when it's hijacked by a dumbass with a loud voice and an air of authority.
Case in point: 535 individuals in D.C.
You hit the nail on the head. As a former prison guard I can say it's true that the majority of the inmates I spoke too had absolutely no concept of past actions or future consequences. They existed entirely in their present wants and desires.
Fair play to this guy. He wanted to be on the right side of the law, got himself trained (which probably cost him), and couldn't get a job. He must have retrained in IT to be good enough to do the legal hacking. But on seeing how things went, instead of either taking the site down and thinking that he nearly got in over his head, or - as would undoubtedly be the case for some people, as intelligence doesn't equate to having common sense or even a sense of morality - actually becoming a hitman. Your past stories include plenty of examples of people who would have done that!
Good for him, I hope he is successful in whatever he's doing for a living.
This is actually one of the craziest stories I've seen on this channel.
