- Given the complexity of medical operations, it seems euthanasia would be the one procedure that couldn't go wrong. That is not the case.
"Euthanasia (from Greek: εὐθανασία, lit. 'good death': εὖ, eu, 'well, good' + θάνατος, thanatos, 'death') is the practise of intentionally ending life to eliminate pain and suffering.
Different countries have different euthanasia laws. The British House of Lords select committee on medical ethics defines euthanasia as "a deliberate intervention undertaken with the express intention of ending a life to relieve intractable suffering". In the Netherlands and Belgium, euthanasia is understood as "termination of life by a doctor at the request of a patient".
Euthanasia is categorised in different ways, which include voluntary, non-voluntary, and involuntary. Voluntary euthanasia is when a person wishes to have their life ended and is legal in a growing number of countries. Non-voluntary euthanasia occurs when a patient's consent is unavailable and is legal in some countries under certain limited conditions, in both active and passive forms. Involuntary euthanasia, which is done without asking for consent or against the patient's will, is illegal in all countries and is usually considered murder.
As of 2006, euthanasia had become the most active area of research in bioethics. In some countries, divisive public controversy occurs over the moral, ethical, and legal issues associated with euthanasia. Passive euthanasia (known as "pulling the plug") is legal under some circumstances in many countries. Active euthanasia, however, is legal or de facto legal in only a handful of countries (for example, Belgium, Canada, and Switzerland), which limit it to specific circumstances and require the approval of counsellors, doctors, or other specialists. In some countries-such as Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan-support for active euthanasia is almost nonexistent."

I'm a big fan... I think you should make an episode on the The Station nightclub fire that happened in 2003 in Rhode Island. So crazy!
You should make a video on Beebo Russell. He stole a passenger plane and took it on a final joy ride. There are good audio recording and video recording of the incident. The audio recordings are filled with raw emotions. Qxir quality video content.
There was a recent news report here in Europe, I don't remember which country in specific it happened but they euthanized the wrong person because of a language barrier, and the person that was killed was confused by another, in this case both the 2 patients involved were Asian tourists and their excuse was that they couldn't communicate well enough with both patients.

Jon : *Make it slow* 💀
soooo my witnesses were my ex and my mother then? makes me wonder if the guy totally knew what he was doing when those meds got misplaced. were they misplaced into a wineglass perhaps?
To put things in perspective, the average therapeutic dose of Diazepam is 1-2 mg. Morphine sulfate...10mg. 1000mg of D and 15,000mg of M is insane....but itll definitely do the trick. The fact that the guy survived from even a small sip is crazy
Goddamn that'd probably kill a horse twice over lmao
Yeah, when I heard those doses I was like, "These people are not messing around!!"
Gives a whole new meaning to the word "overkill".
Those are for initial IV dosing though, not oral, which would be 10mg for Diazepam and closer to 30mg for Morphine. (Still an incredibly huge dose in compared to those)
For reference on the higher end of therapeutic index - I was high functioning on an oral dose of nearly 200mg of morphine equivalent a day for multiple years. This was following an intense brain surgery, a lot of suffering, and finally being accepted into palliative care a year after (all due to an incurable brain tumor on brainstem and spinal cord in my neck). This was under the care of a pain clinic & spinal cord recovery team, but still, when combined with 0.5mg of Clonazepam, that alone could OD someone who had no tolerance.
Regarding Diazepam, the _oral_ therapeutic dose for that is actually in 10mg increments. It’s Clonazepam and other benzos that are between 0.25mg and 2mg. I was on 40mg of Diazepam, then switched to 4mg of Clonazepam for a year before they accepted that it was more a pain control issue. (So based on my experience, these doses, taken orally, are a factor of 100-1000 times higher than even the highest therapeutic doses. I’m guessing partially because some terminal pain patients are taking pretty high doses, which still don’t help much, and part of the reason they’re asking for “game over”.)
Doctors don’t like to prescribe that much unless you’re much older than me or death much closer, so though it helped make me go from debilitating nonstop pain to going back to school, working again as a researcher, and getting a Master’s in Engineering, (high functioning again), I was (am still being) slowly weened to a much lower dose. Plus, my brain & spine tumor is regrowing back, though slowly, and now, in anticipation of another surgery, I need a low tolerance to the pain medications for it to be able to blunt the pain of having my skull and spine cracked open again, and tumor cut off of my brainstem, spinal cord, and the vertebral arteries it’s wrapping around.
@@ndawn90maybe Goner was like "just dead? Is there an option to be deader?"
Diazepam comes in 5 and 10mg pills and larger.
Still, that amount is a lot more than a therapeutic dose.

I was once dining with a surgeon from the Royal Brompton Hospital in London and we got talking about medication and EOL care.
I have multiple spinal cord injuries and rely on numerous medication and have had multiple emergency and planned surgeries for Cauda Equina Syndrome and prolapsed discs/nerve compression at L, T & C Spine levels.
As we spoke about the "cocktail" of medication I take, he mentioned that in his hospital they have something known as "The Brompton Cocktail" which is a carefully concocted mixture of medicines prepared by an anaesthetist and consultant in conjunction with one another to ease the suffering of patients in their last days.

The audition? Well, the game got canceled, so sadly you can't hear what I sound like. It's too bad. I was really looking forward to doing actual VO work. 😕
When I was in middle school in the late 90s we had "Channel One News" in every classroom and would watch it first period once a week for an hour (and maybe every other day of the week for 10min, I forget) and it was loaded with propaganda
One of the ones was about Euthanasia, and everyone in the class thought they were saying Youth In Asia, lol..
We were 12 years old, and they were pushing the pro-euthanasia propaganda on us without any counter-arguments..
They'd also push all these other ideas on us as 12-year-olds while the teacher was our only guidance.. *and all the programming was targeted towards kids by older teenagers who "were cool" lol*
Just think about the implications of that for a second. Pushing ideas on kids at 12 who thought euthanasia was "youth in Asia" in a propaganda way without any counter-arguments being displayed, without their parents presence or even their permission.
And this would be basically 2 hours per week. 1hr straight one day and 15 minutes per day for the other 4 days.

Back in the day I was an assistant to an assistant professor, and some of my menial chores involved grading papers from a remedial college English class. And that's no joke--this was a special class for probationary freshman who had to demonstrate basic levels of academic competence to be fully accepted into the uni next semester. So one day I was grading essays, and I think the writing prompt was something like "argue for/against a current social issue." And as I started reading this essay, it made no damn sense at all. The writer was arguing in favor of Asian kids, but it wasn't clear what exactly he was in favor of. Then it hit me: he wasn't in favor of Asian kids, he was in favor of "youth in Asia." What was really crazy was that he seemed to understand what euthanasia was, but he'd written it phonetically like that. These were the days before an internet search engine had seen enough dumb asses to understand that a search for "youth in Asian" = euthanasia. Seriously, try it in Google right now and it will totally know you want info about medically assisted suicide. And that's just...unfortunate.
