I am from the same town as Stephen. I went to school with him. I'm not good friends with him or anything but he was a nice and quiet kid. I do not believe that this song is about his personal experience. I could be wrong. But I think the only fists that he had to dodge from his dad was when his dad was teaching him how to box. His dad was a Golden Gloves Champion. However, his dad has passed away a few years back. You should listen to "Father's Son". He talks about his dad in it and how he is like him. Glad to see you reacting to his music.
