This series first aired as a 1-hour special, sponsored by FTD, on CBS on 9/14/1969. It won its time slot with a 20.4 rating. When it became a series it moved to ABC.

I miss the opportunity just to see mr Thomas when he was playing and talking to the children at his hospital in Missouri. I miss him on Monday nights with this sequel and I love the structure of mid 70's intro music that keeps me smiling. that's I want some of my TV shows has that eccentric glow and the feeling of it. love mr Thomas.

I got a kick from the 'Cedar Tree' on the 'Danny Thomas Productions' logo...as-in the Biblical 'Cedars of Lebanon'. ( Thomas's family was from there)

They should had a “Make Room for Daddy” TV movie in the 80s. Would had been interesting to see, since 50s and 60s shows were being revisited in the 80s.
The original series, Make Room for Daddy (later The Danny Thomas Show) was an enormous success, lasting for 343 episodes over 11 seasons. This one flopped and managed only 24 episodes, even though it was basically the same show. The reason might have been that, during the 1970-71 season, ABC was still struggling to find an audience. It wasn't until the network managed to acquire hits such as The Six Million Dollar Man and Marcus Welby M.D. a few years later that ABC's audience grew to rival those of the other two networks. Back in the day, the joke was that if you wanted the Vietnam War to end, put it on ABC and it'd be gone in 13 weeks.
Which makes this being short lived all the more sad. Especially since the original series was one of the popular shows on ABC originally before the CBS switch and cast changes (i.e. from Hagen to Lord). For Thomas, the 1970-71 season was his own private Garry Moore Show revival failure*
*Moore took a two year hiatus off air in '64 and when he came back in color in 1966, the hiatus and being scheduled against Bonanza via NBC hurt the ratings
I'm surprised to see a joke about women shopping too much in the early 70's. Surely that was a little stale by that point.
The whole show was stale.
Angela Cartwright the only reason to watch this reboot. No one wanted to see Danny Thomas 70's sideburns equal to the length of his nose.
Really...Mr. Danny Thomas founded Saint Jude's Hospital for Children...what have you done lately?...smh...
