It's not ownership, but the envy of being the owners that the Trump's are obsessed with.
He originally purchased the property intending to build a resort and mansions to sell. Unfortunately for him, the property is part of three different townships, each of which sued to stop him from bulldozing the forested land. So he turned part of it into a nature conservancy to lower his property taxes. The place is a white elephant with no development potential.
Well I am sure the neighbors are happy about and the area was not turned in to a tacky development!

People with too much debt are a security risk, because they can be compromised by offers of money. 40 Wall Street, for instance, is on leased land at a cost of more than $2 million a year with a huge increase in that coming in 2035. The mortgage on that building is $120 million, with a balloon payment due in 2025. The building is only at 67% occupancy rate, and brings in less than $15 million a year. That math isn't good, with the balloon payment due so soon. Trump doesn't own any of his properties outright.

Oh, WOW. No other way to say it. A really magnificent home. Not surprised that James would want it as I have a feeling that she is jealous of Mr Trump and all of the beautiful places he has. If were to walk around this home I would be in awe. Just this little peek at it was enough for me to be in awe of the workmanship and details of this century old home. My grandmother lived in a gorgeous place that was built in the late 1800s and I loved her home. About two years ago I found out that it had fallen into disrepair and was torn down. I felt a deep loss. I'm so glad Mr Trump could keep this magnificent home up. James keep your paws off of this home. You have no right to it. God bless.

That's because you get more money at lower rates if you are a good risk. That's why people have credit ratings and have to do appraisals - not just estimates.
@@stevenvox6549 Banks/Buyers always do their appraisal, seller can list it at whatever heck they think their property is worth, appraisal is completely optional.
Because it's fraud. Overvaluing to get more favorable loan rates is unfair business practice, which undercuts other businesses.
You can only be legally fined when requested by the bank you received the loan from. If you lie about your assets and turn around and get a loan that you will struggle then after to pay off would be one thing but the bank literally said they were complacent and happy with the business they done with trump and weren’t a damaged party in the case.
Here is the problem we are at right now.
I asked over 40 people the same question revolving around the fraud case and ever single one contradict one another.
I am not the smartest but one thing for sure is if you look up the qualifications for fraud requires a definite institution or body as a damaged party. This means that you can’t claim that the tax payers are the damaged party and the banks must be the damaged party but even then. The banks who gave the loans never once filed for fraud in the first place. So the whole situation is a huge dumpster fire that is an excuse made to pursecute yet again another large company in the state of Newyork… Letitia James has a bad track record involving destroying stability in Newyork claiming that she’s helping people but instead she is just destroying careers and opportunity for society.

That's some of the problem as trump doesn't own the whole property on some holding but only parts of the buildings or the ground lease between a building and the dirt owner. One building can't be sold until 2045 so it's worthless even to trump from the contract trump has on it.

The purpose of seizing the properties is to sell them and repay the treasury that Trump defrauded and stole from. In this case I think they may want to protect the land and reservoir from development.

The Seven Springs Manson gets a huge tax break on its 217 acres because most of the land is placed in a nature and wildlife trust there has been a conflict possible about the over all numbers of acres!

The problem for Trump is that he *didn't* pay his taxes to New York as you and I do. He overvalued them to get cheaper loan terms, and undervalued them to cheat on property taxes. You and I pay property taxes on the assessed value of our homes, not on what we say they're worth.
@retriever19golden55 He did NOT get cheaper loan terms. Representatives of these banks testified as much, and it's simply not how banks lend money, they don't take your word for how much a property is worth, they assess it themselves. The entire premise of this case is false.

These trophy houses are not always comfortable, they can be drafty, money pits. The houses outlive the owners,, in a manner the wealth of the owners is up-keeping these places. Might be bragging rights, but would any sane person turn them into backpackers? It is respectful of the original architects, the builders and crafts people who would have put so much skill into getting these results for others to admire, even us hiding behind computer screens , to admire the fore fathers/mothers.

I visited the Hearst Castle in California. It was thrilling and magnificent!
