- This is a reroute that occurs occasionally, but usually only during late night periods. It is fairly unusual for it to happen during the day, so I took the opportunity to get full coverage of it while I had the chance this weekend. Enjoy!

Interesting how Broadway Junction became more like the modern Myrtle Ave. Trains coming off the elevated...elevated line and snaking their way down/climbing their way out. It really makes the station live up to the "Junction" part of its name

Aidan Robertson The MTA probably realizes this and the J platform is hybrid block and CBTC interchangeable should an L train terminate. Flip a switch to go from trip arms to CBTC
That’s rare the L train normally don’t share with other lines.
There use to be an RJ train that started on the L line in Canarsie then would switch at Broadway Junction to the J line and somewhere in Manhattan it would then switch over to the current R line and finish off in Bay Ridge.
The J train used to head to Canarsie until 1968

There are numerous unused supports (former track locations) between Atlantic and B'way Junction, are those from the former Fulton Elevated line?

Due to L train shutdown some r143's are moving to the J and Z lines and the r160's that's left on the L will be there until the shutdown starts

lol due to the plan of the shut down some R143's and R160's were being removed and going to the j and Z and other lines for the moment they trying to test CBTC on other lines

Since the Canarsie tunnel is closing, the L train should go via the A line to 8th Ave/14th Street, and then go via the M Line after West 4th Street, then switch to the J line after Myrtle Avenue, then go to the track that switches and goes to the L line. The MTA should have a shuttle from Lorimer Street to Atlantic Avenue during this. And The L will takeover the rest of the line.

Just have the L go from Canarsie to Bedford Avenue straight and have passengers take other subway lines at Broadway Jct, Myrtle-Wyckoff, or Lorimer Street, or get off at Grand Street or Bedford Avenue for Shuttle Buses over the Williamsburg Bridge. Additionally, Canarsie residents can use the planned L5 route to the Utica Avenue 3/4 station, where 3 train service can take them into midtown Manhattan.
@@antglizzy7720 yes because if the L train goes via the J Z and M at Delancey street it can switch to the M line then at west 4 street it switches to the A track but it will be impossible because it will cause delays there’s no announcements for it and when it gets to 14 street and 8 ave it can’t switch because there’s no switch

They have alot of the L trains on the Jamaica center platform now going on the broad platform then merging to the jc bound platform because of no service from lorimer to Broadway junction
And now they dont have trains from Broadway junction to Jamaica center

Why are there in NYC a lot of train stations (specially in brooklyn) that are just a very few blocks away from the others?
Lots of spaghetti tracks at broadway junction. I drove the B division lines but did the coney lines FDNQ. Literally old to new equipment overnight! Now , the R46 is running on the N line! Never seen that!

Referring to the closure of the Canarsie Tubes, can't rush-hour Manhattan bound L trains switch over to the J/Z lines at Broadway Junction and run via the M to a station along 6th Ave?
But then you have Broadway Junction to Bedford Av without any L train service.
Just have them transfer to the M at Myrtle Av.
It's like the W train where some trains terminate at 86th Street. Some people just don't like to transfer, so the MTA could provide some sort of convenience...
R143s are only 8 cars long, compared to most R160s which are 10 cars long, each car with similar length.
M trains also compose of 8-car sets, only they are of R160s.
SpaZz the L can go to Herald Square, because the M can also, and it uses same length cars.
Kyron Liu the "convenience" of not needing to transfer will mean trains will get clogged between Myrtle Av and Essex St, and again between Broadway-Lafayette and Herald Square. Not to mention reduced service along the rest of the L.
We can't try to fulfill everybody's wishes. Just make them transfer. It's not that hard.
Is this a temporary service change or a service change for all cars? If so, are they moving the L train cars to the J line for the shutdown? I'm interested in hearing about more of this.
BenTheMiner / MTA Railfanner From what the flyers tell me when I rode the L on Saturday is that tracks past Broadway Jct. Is under repair and possibly even on the L tracks at Broadway Junction. This is temporary for probably the weekends but it might happen during the Canarsie Tubes Maintinence Closure.

What happened to the Standards?
This is a nice catch. If the Manhattan bound L train was deadheading at Broadway Junction, how was it spinning around and going back to Canarsie? Was it simply going to Chauncey Street via the J express track and then changing direction? Or was it going into the ENY yard? From the video, I can't see how. And BJ is already such a confusing junction of tracks.

Once the L Train Shutdown starts the MTA Should think of doing this to M and L Trains

This will Allow for both More L Train Service on Two Branches But Eliminating the need for The M to only a Shuttle until the reconstruction of the Viaduct. That being said If all of the Ms R160 Stock is not in Fresh Pond Yard it can all essentially be assigned to the L or the Grey M in order to Increase headways in the section in which the L and Grey M run on the same track whilst having riders have the option to use the M as is with the allowance of people whom normally use the L in Manhattan to use the M to Carnicie and having a much easier transfer to the L
The M can Return to its normal Route once the Myrtle Ave Viaduct is reconstructed and having Select L Trains Run To 34 Street Harold Square as you had said allowing for that same transition of L Riders using the proposed M14 A/D SBS For L Service in Manhattan
DL No need. Canarsie is going to get an L5 shuttle bus to the Utica Avenue 3/4 station, so no need for a train service from Canarsie directly into Midtown Manhattan via the already-crammed Williamsburg Bridge.

If the L trains can cross onto the J line, I wonder why the MTA didn’t consider running some of the L trains from Canarsie all the way to, maybe...say, 57 Street via the Williamsburg Bridge while the Canarsie Tunnel is being repaired?
John Leung Can’t. The flyover has a speed restriction of 10 mph, and the Williamsburg Bridge is capped at 24 tph.
Plans call for 14 M trains and 10 J/Z trains during the closure, plus shuttle buses from Grand Street or Bedford Avenue to subway stops in Lower East side and Soho, with bus service to 1st Avenue.
It would also leave the busier Brooklyn stations north of Broadway Jct unserved, inconveniencing passengers at those busy stations. The Canarsie Tunnel carries 225,000 riders between Brooklyn and Manhattan and all need a quick alternative during the closure. They are increasing service on other subway lines, and adding buses and ferries. Also, new HOV restrictions are being added on the Williamsburg Bridge and 14th Street will. E turned into a busway. Is that not enough for you?

Did anyone known about z train at Broadway junction?
Only for rush hour during morning and afternoon times. Sometimes at Broadway Junction, you will see subway car sign as Not In Service. It will be totally sign as Z train.

Manual Carchi It already goes to Queens, at Halsey Street, serving residents of a portion of Ridgewood along the Brooklyn/Queens Border. The MTA however depicts this station to be in Brooklyn.

What'chu talkin about? The (L) does stop at Broadway Junction; it has its own platforms! It's just that this time (among others, occasionally as DJ Hammers mentioned in the description) it was rerouted onto the (J)(Z) platforms.

when the m train shutdown happens they should have it use this connection and extend down to rockway parkway durring rush hours so trains dont have to back up and casue delays

true but it would cause less delays for the j and z skip stop and allow for the z to run express all the way to Broadway junction to Marcy av since the m train would fill the gap of the z train between myrtle and Broadway junction give people in Brownsville and canarsie a one seat ride to midtown
