- Playing the Spyro games that I'm not familiar with has been an... interesting journey. The GBA games in particular have so far filled me with mixed emotions. Spyro 2: Season of Flame was actually a pretty decent experience, which was why when I reached Spyro: Attack of the Rhynocs I ended up being so disappointed. Want to know why? Watch the video to find out! Enjoy! :]
As a fan of this game, it was a little disheartening seeing the tough critisism, but I do understand the issues you have with it. I will address a few things:
You actually don't need any of the Hearts to beat the game, they act more as a collectable goal. In fact, the Heart of Moneybags Mansion is a 3500 gem purchase, which will most likely be your last purchase in the game and requires every last gem in the game to afford
With that in mind, this game gets shifted into something else entirely, now it's a metroidvania, where the new abilities you get unlock more areas. When you go to the Byrd Barracks, you get the Super Breath Mint and the level features freezing water bridges to walk over. If you remember the odd-colored water near the Fairy Library, you're rewarded for coming back and trying out the new abilities you didn't have on your first run-through.
Even more so, if you decide to walk back instead of using the Quick Escape fast travel, you get jumped by a surprise Butler fight with a completely bonus level in the cave he appeared from!
My perspective of this game completely shifted when I stopped trying to see it as an interpetation of the PS1 Spyro formula, maybe give it another chance some time!
but yeah the plot is kinda meh
I personally liked Attack of the Rhynocs much better than the two others, the removal of extra lives makes exploration much better.
This was my first Spyro game so I didn’t know about the previous games. I rendered trying season of Ice but it was boring and never played it again. Something about Attack of was just a lot of fun. This and the shadow legacy ware the 2 sorta games I ever played and I enjoyed them. Didn’t know about the bad rep it got lol. Nice vid
Also I didn’t know sparx was the dragonfly so whenever his icon came up when he spoke, I thought that was a penguin … look I was a dumb kid
Only thing I remember about this game is young me managing to get around 98% completion of it and having no idea what I missed to get it to 100% and being very annoyed
When you only say that Agent 9's missions are stealth missions, it actually sounds like a cool idea. I believe you that it's not all that fun how they execute it but the idea itself of bringing back Agent 9 for stealth gameplay is a great idea.
I didn't replay this game yet, but when I first played it, I remember it being really frustrating... Most of the times you really have no idea what to do next or where you didn't collect something yet.
I actually like Spyro Attack of The Rhynocs and Spyro 2 Season of Flame and I like the Superfire breath pepper Super Ice breath and Butt Slam moves.
I especially like the collecting stuff too.
im so glad that people that love spyro still exist i played it as a little girl in spain and seeing the community just having fun and playing the games and reviewing it when i cant is so nice and also in a sence nostalgic. keep up the work you got a new subscriber!
Once I beat Ripto, I didn't bother 100%ing the game. I'd much rather quit my job and just search for pennies in the street. The game is nothing but a Zelda clone at best. Out of the GBA trilogy, Season of Flame is the best.
Found this channel for the spyro content, stayed bc he funny asf
Aw, thank you!
What you did there, I see it. 13:59
