So, I chose to do this challenge because I thought it would be a nice easy one after the massive edit that was Final Fantasy 8. How wrong I was. This was quite possibly the most difficult Spyro challenge yet, and not necessarily due to a lack of skill (although I do lack that sometimes). This particular challenge required carefully planning out our routes ahead of time, otherwise we risk softlocks.
A big thank you to these two Spyro Speed Runners, without them, I would have fallen to many of the aforementioned softlocks:

I love how this game is so broken that the challenge was technically completed before the 2 minute mark. Even Sonic 06 is more stable than that, though the glitches in 06 are a bit overblown to be fair.
Hey, I was wondering what the Hive thing in the "Also find us here" section is, since you don't have any direct links to it...
If I subscribe, will you actually love me forever? Or are you just trying to get in my pants?

Ever since watching Mr FO1's Enter the Dragonfly documentary I have a new found respect for this game. It wasn't that the developers were bad, it was just that the game went through development hell in an era where you couldn't patch games easily. I have 100%'d this game fairly recently and some levels are actually quite good. It's just sad knowing what it could have been.
Great run of the game anyway, it's just a shame Monkey Monastery had to go and ruin it. Also learnt a thing or two, didn't know there were too many gems in the Jurassic level and didn't know Ripto had multiple forms based on completion.
This really was the sonic 06 of spyro games. As a preteen/teen I couldn't remember why this was my least played spyro game, so I booted it up and immediately noticed the terrible frame drops, broken controls, and the crashing. That cloud level was the worst culprit with the framerate rarely going above single digits.
Great video though! I'm not really a big fan of glitches but seeing the creativity used when combining multiple glitches to work in tandem is so much fun.
This game is so incredibly broken and a shell of the original trilogy. Despite this though, it was my first Spyro game and I played it as I was growing up. I have fond memories of being 8 years old and talking to my friend at school about this game and being excited to come home and play it together. I remember spending ages taking turns to try and beat that tank mission in the honey level, which was the last dragonfly we got before 100%. Even though this game is objectively a bad game, it still holds a great amount of nostalgia for me and I'll always appreciate it for that.
I remember as a kid not being able to find 2 gems (1 green gem) in the Luau level. I'd spend hours going through the level looking for it. years later I found it at the start of the level in the water hidden in a corner that for some reason I never thought to check as a kid.
Same thing happened to me in this run too. Apparently it's commonly missed
Enter the Dragonfly is one of the games of all time. You go through the game, you walk in the air, the level sometimes shows up, what more do you need?
This is not only one of the Spyro games ever made, but one of the Sega games ever made!
One of, if not the game
Truly a game
@@operator8014
Tf do you mean Sega?
Sonic did a *HORRENDOUS* job on this game.
OBJECTION!
"We're treating this challenge as if Spyro's wings have been clipped."
Then how do you explain the use of the Wing Shield ability in Thieves' Den? Checkmate, PHONY!
Nah but for real, great video. Probably the most in depth I will ever know this broken mess of a game. If only Universal didn't push the developers to have it out by Christmas, who knows, this game could have been great.
For real guys you are actual magicians of videogaming. Besides the sheer skill, the production value of the videos is high too, especially the commentary. Well done guys!
I remember playing this game. Grew up on spyro, ripto's rage, and year of the dragon.
Was excited when i saw this.
Got to the ripto fight in this game and wondered where the rest of the game was
Coming over to say I’m so glad you guys are doing so well on RUclips now 😊 and even though I’m not around for streams, I’m proud of you guys and how far you’ve come. Forever a fan ❤❤❤
Thank you for that! We've missed you :D
god this game… this is the first game that i ever played that made me completely break immersion. when i was little, i would mess around in the overworld and found a lot of the speedrun glitches. my biggest achievement was loading into the game with the floor to ripto already despawned somehow so i beat it in minutes. great game. inspired me to become a glitch hunter!
Finally! I did this a year ago on the reignited trilogy, but I was surprised no one had ever uploaded it to youtube, I partly wish I had the proper equipment and recorded it, playing the whole trilogy without gliding was such a breath of fresh air, especially after playing it with gliding again. Ever since, I wish I could've done the same to this game, mainly because it's so broken LOL!
YEEEEES I’ve been waiting for more Spyro content!!!
And it’s a full hour!!!!! This is the best day
Fantastic and thorough as always. Really squeezing good times out of a game that played normally is just eh.
Fun fact, I watched this in chunks because I have only been able tto get internet in 8 minute slots today. Surprisingly suspenseful...
I find it so funny that in a series where the point is to not use Spyro’s limited flight abilities, he actually appears to be much better at flying due to glitches lol
i woke up very sick and ill and this video being the first thing in my subscriptions tab cheered me up even after the revelation that i would have to stay in bed ❤ super interesting watch, had no idea most of this was possible in this game - especially the stuff on cloud 9
Oh man, I remember this game now! We only rented it when I was a kid, so I only played a little bit of it. And kid me didn't see to like it. That said, I'm excited to see you crush it!
35:50 Spyro 3 had sliding sections if I recall correctly, so the idea is not even original to EtD, except being behind a portal so it classifies as a minigame
This was my first spyro game and I loved it oddly enough and then didn't care too much for the others. I was a simple lad. Having multiple breath attacks was just visually fun for me except bubble.
I remember using that glitch where you swim through that part of the fence that has the rope lifted up and 'flying' around the overworld
As a really really young kid playing this i had no idea how video games worked and I was annoyed the fence was blocking my path there because I wanted to go past it and 'explore the rest of the ocean' because I assumed there must be a full fledged ocean behind it, and I ended up doing that glitch because I tried to get past the fence by going under it where the rope is lifted up
Fun fact: If you keep swim-flying towards the sun you can go past the sun and just keep going and going into the blackness of the void. For some reason I really liked to do this as a kid, I remember doing it all the time.
What’s so crazy about this game is that when I played it when I was younger, I didn’t experience any glitches whatsoever (that I can remember that is). It just felt mid and I went back to the originals afterwards, content to not play it again. Crazy to see just how broken it actually is lol
NGPlus: We're going to need glitches to get through this
EtD Devs: Well have we got news for you!
42:20 I was paying such close attention to what you were saying that when I only half-saw that message box at the bottom, I thought it said 'You caught Autism!' for a second and I was like 'yeah, fair enough'.
39:16 I do love it when my barrels move around. Quite convenient for storing things
You could argue that the speedways are FLYING, not GLIDING so they could be done without ever gliding.
I watched all in one sitting, fantastic video. I really enjoyed it!
Wow my PS2 version never had any bugs. I liked this game as a child. Especially the different breaths.
Bro, the beginning sent me! What are these hitboxes?!? XD
Fun Fact, when I got this game when I was like 8, my dad, who didn't really play games. Thought this was an older Spyro and wondered why I didn't get the new one as it looked worse than Spryo 3 to him :D
Don't know why I was so excited to see this drop, I watched u do it live 😂
Everytime this dude says "However..." after seemingly hitting a dead end, i'm reminded of Columbo going "Just one more thing..." before nailing a suspect
Just wait till I tell Ripto it's bowling night with the wife
I remember getting Enter The Dragonfly when I was young. I was so hyped to play it since I loved Year Of The Dragon. I got home, I played the first few levels of it.... and it was extremely underwhelming. I got bored after a while and just popped in Tekken Tag Tournament or something.
I hope you can continue this to A Hero's Tail. While it's not as good as the PS1 trilogy, it's a pretty solid outing. Good luck with the 100% though, that's going to be... tricky.
That entire Thieves Den segment is fucking INSANE
Aw yeah, another one. Favorite series going on youtube!
I’m so happy to see this video after catching most of the streams! Great job as always, Nathan
The fram rate drops are giving me flashbacks to when I played this as a kid. Even as a 6 year old, I was breaking Enter the Dragonfly 😅
This was a fun one. Pretty ballsy going for 100%
If you didn't know, in dragonfly dojo you can clip through the final door at the start of the level.
This makes me want to dig my PS2 out of storage just to bully this game for a while.
I love and look forward to these videos. Instant like, time to enjoy the vid.
I hope you continue the Spyro series
51:44 wow. What a great game
Well this was my first spyro game ever on my gamecube. So i didnt know it was bad.
I love how the game is SO broken that he had to make the challenge harder for the video, literally could’ve ended in the first 2 minutes
Fantastic work as always man!
I actually clipped through the boss portal on my first playthrough cuz i didn’t know if i needed to turn it on 💀
16:16 Even when playing normally, I still encountered this issue
i still believe to this day that the game would have been great if activision diddnt rush the hell out of them forcing them to release a game that barely works but i still enjoy it and its weird glitches
Wow I didn't know you make a video about beating "spyro 4" without gliding! Well if you want to beat "spyro 5" without gliding then good luck anyway!
Working on it 👍
This game is broken enough that I couldn't read the video title without first thinking it said "can you beat Spyro Enter The Dragonfly without glitching". I don't know if you can. A hard challenge that one.
It's such a shame, this game had the makings of a great game and the devs clearly understood what made the original trilogy so fun. It was pretty much set up to be a game that followed the same formula while also building on it, and the elemental breathes were such a good idea. So sad that they were forced to release it well before it was anywhere close to complete.
The game was actually originally supposed to be completely different and there was so much cut there could have been 5 games made out of it, I definitely suggest you watch the 3 part documentary on this game to find out more
@@aarondoesyt3194 Yeah it was originally supposed to be multiple hub worlds with lots more levels. That's what I meant by it not even being close to complete. At that point it's not even a rushed game, it's simply an alpha build. I feel really bad for the devs, especially since they're the ones who likely got all of the blame, and not the executives that forced them to release it so soon.
@@Someguyhere111 The layouts of the levels were supposed to be much different as well, they were going to be more linear instead of circular apparently. It's a shame but we have a superior version being released soon by Mr FO1 with lots of bug fixes and improvements
Been looking forward to this for a long time
I accidentally discovered swimming in air as a child, it's fascinating to see it utilized on purpose. Man, this game really was buggy
14 QA testers. And it wasn't enough .
Hurts seeing this game get treated badly. It was my favorite Spyro game in the series. This and heros tale were much more fun for me than the original game, though I did love those too just not nearly as much
So what's worse, the bugs and glitches in this game, or the extreme lack of content in the GBA reboot?
I remember beating that game entirely casually in about 2 hours as a teenager, and somehow that game cost more than Pokemon at the local game store.
And this was the first Spyro game I had actually played, only having experience with the others on demos or with extremely limited playtime in after-school clubs and the like.
This game is also known as "Spyro: Enter the Gate From Wherever You Feel Like" lmao
For the gate at 17:14 you can just press your face up against it and bubble breath through the wall and get the dragonfly, helping if you don't want to leave the level and come back
I remember playing this when I was young and actually enjoying it. Only found out people thought it was bad recently. Maybe i was too young to know
Have you ever played the ape escape games? I’d love to see such an awesome game get some attention. Maybe you could come up with a challenge video for it
I haven't played them, but maybe I could look into them one day
I remember renting this game on Gamefly and beating it in one day with that water glitch after collecting a few dragonflies :P
A mess the game is, but the soundtrack is nice.
I remember completing this forever ago but couldn't put my finger on why it was lacking. Don't get me wrong, when I was little it was fun enough, but even then I much preferred the PS1 titles.
On the PS2 I enjoyed Ratchet and Clank games so much more.
Drink everytime you hear "walkin' 'ere!"
Another banger!
Personally, I love this game. The only bug I ever experienced was I somehow clipped oob while swimming and was then able to swim wherever I wanted to in the map. This happened when I was like 8. I got rid of the game in a school game trade then later bought another copy when I was 21 because I wanted to play the snow and honey levels
This was my first Spyro game, I loved it. Dunno why it gets so much hate
Is the lagginess in the UFO/plane minigames an emulator glitch, or is the game just like that? Because it looks like it would be an emulator glitch, but some games are glitchy no matter how you play them (like True Crime: Streets of New York).
Yeah that is an emulator glitch I can confirm that never happens when I play those on console lol
Honestly, I wouldn't mind this game being shorter than the original trilogy if Crush and Gulp were bosses in this game, and if this game was polished and fun to play
I played this on ps2 and had no lag whatsoever...
is the gamecube version just really bad?, did I get some patched version? (Aus so tended to get later releases)
I really enjoyed enter the dragonfly
Could be an emulator problem as save states are involved
The GameCube version does run a little worse than the PS2 version but the PS2 version tends to yield the worst things such as frequent crashes and levels refusing to load certain sections
@@groink450 while I didn't recognise the last level so I obviously never finished it I know it never crashed or anything, but maybe I'm just lucky when it comes to game performance I played sonic 06 (ps3) and didn't run into any bugs, tho again I didn't finish that game but I played it for several hours.
I noticed the run was captured in 4:3. Enter the Dragonfly despite how broken it is actually supports 16:9 aspect ratio.
The hardest part of this run is actually playing Spyro Enter The Dragonfly in the first place
Who was that next to you when Spyro started walking and nice video
That was my wife, Gina. Thanks 😄
This game is so broken, yet the ways in which it is broken lended themselves to be rather inconvenient or not convenient enough for this challenge oftentimes. Special shoutouts to Masochism Monastery, the hardest level to get to in any Spyro game up to this point, and also the most disappointing when you get there.
It would've been so funny. If you said "if you don't subscribe. You'll never know the results. That's the only way to know the results". Btw. Can you do this next? Can you beat crash bandicoot without breaking ANY boxes?
I'm Live Streaming Crash Bandicoot 2 on Friday. Gonna try 100% without Spinning 👍
Gl man
At first glance i thought the video name was "can you beat Spyro the dragon fly without glitches" and was very interested on how you could NOT glitch out the entire game
Using a glide to play an extra level? You didn't even do that for Spyro 1! Surprised you went that. Season of Ice is next right?
I feel I took the easy way out on Spyro 1. If I made that video today, I would have pushed for 100% completion with minimal glides. I'm not working on any Spyro videos currently, but I do have 2 other videos on the go right now 😁
The concept of this game was fantastic, though. The breaths, dragonfly capture, mini games. If only it was programmed better. The plot was sort of lacking, I think, or didn't make much sense. I don't remember the plot too much tbh.
What is with the spaghetti code of this game? Literally everything can be broken by accident lol.
Really bored so amma watch this again!
What's difference between the versions of the game. Like does it matter if its gamecube or can it be done on playstation
You'd be fine doing this on either version of the game, the only real difference is GameCube lags a bit more so it's easier to lag clip through gates/doors
this was the first and only spyro game I played as a child 🥹
So, I have an idea for you to do a challenge run on a metal gear solid game. Could you beat the game, (Mgs 1, 2, 3, or 4) while smoking? I had this idea since the cigar/ cigarettes appear in almost every game but they have almost no purpose.
I know this has been done with MGS1 already. I am still trying to work out how to buy a digital version of MGS3
Spyro's swimming animation depicts him using his wings to gain momentum, does that mean swimming doesn't count?
I wonder if the frame rate issues would have been solved if the Xbox port had been released (let’s hope an prototype leaks one day of that port)
this game seems like its held together by duct tape
What are you playing on, I can't get those glitches to work, I use PS2 emulator
As much of a goddamn train wreck this game is. I can't help but feel like there's some good ideas here, Like the level ideas would be really cool if they were in a *good* Spyro game. Even if there's only enough for a SINGLE world.
Here's another challenge: Can you beat Spyro enter the dragonfly without losing your sanity
I failed that one already in the latest video, so I went with No Gliding again 😅
are you going to do 'spyro a hero's tail' Without Gliding?
I intend to, yes
@@NGPlusVideos good luck on it.
oh. and this game on PS2 is bad to, but runs a bit better.
Yeah, I needed the GC version for the lag to clip through doors 😅
I hate this game. It feels like a unfinished demo build I still cant believe this game exists and has a greatest hits rerelease. Congrats on the challenge I like how you glitched into the final boss and replayed the game fully without gliding. Respect 🫡
Definitely love the inclusion of both any% and max% in this. Had me wondering why the video was so long when it ended in 3 minutes
I'm actually glad to see you using savestates, I think it's really dumb when someone is trying to perform a very precise glitch and people complain when they use them
BuT iT's NoT aUtHeNtIc!!!!1111. WaAaAh!!!!!
@@Pyxis10 I want to see them try and retry the same trick *FOR THE FULL 5 HOURS AS GOD INTENDED*
It can be argued that save states break the 'no hacking' rule. Since it is literally using 3rd party software in order for an in-game advantage. But like.. it's just for convenience so who really cares?
Snuggles did such an excellent job on that breath challenge in the Thieves level; that would have driven me insane after only a few failed attempts, so gg's on that my dude.
They really came through on that one!
Let's gooo! This was the only Spyro game I ever played and thought it was pretty fun. 15 years later I saw the internet didn't.
I still love it tbh. It was my first Spyro game and I played it so many times as a kid
I loved Ratchet and Clank and I heard that the studio behind that franchise made Spyro too, so I bought it and thought I'd love it. Turns out they gave this game to a different studio and I definitely did not enjoy it lol
@@pat2rome Oof. Same energy as thinking the PSP Ratchet games would be good because the studio consisted of former Insomniac and Naughty dog devs, then finding out it sucks.

Glad to finally see this video out! I personally had a great time trying to help you figure this stuff out on stream even if it was pain at times lol
Appreciate all the help, couldn't have done it without you!
This was the first and only Spyro game I played as a kid. The weird thing is I remembered loving it. That's not to say that I didn't run into bugs or glitches, I certainly remember a lot of those, but that didn't necessarily reduce the experience for me. It's always kinda funny to hear how much everyone else seems to have disliked the game in comparison, which I can't fault anyone for. The fact that this run could have ended in mere moments is pretty funny, but it was worth not allowing that clip to see the strategies for Thieves' Den.
