This was a project I did at a Arts & Crafts show about 40 years ago. The video brought back the techniques I learned. Will try to do for Easter. Still so cool these many years.

When I would help my mother make these she would use the small cool whip containers as a stand to put basket in and paint the cool whip container Easter colors. She also put a pretty lace around cut out opening using hot glue

This worked GREAT for me! Thanks SO much! I ended up using a lot of starch and a tight pattern but the end product was perfect.

Pretty!! I learned to make these when I was younger but we use sugar water. Like boil hot water and add a bunch of sugar to make it thick then paint it on the wrapped balloon and dries hard as a rock!!!

Yep about 25 years ago we made these in elementary using the sugar method too.

It’s really cute. You did a great job! I’m going to give it a try but somehow I doubt mine will come out as adorable as yours. Thank you for sharing this lovely craft project. 🌸

most likely you needed to use more starch or fabric stiffner. The Crochet thread needs to be coated completely and it needs to dry completely. And you can decorate the finished product using zig-zag ribbon, facing tape (using glue gun). I have found that you need to use MORE than a cup of starch to make it really stiff. Or you can use Modge Podge (3 parts Modge Podge, 1 part water - stir until ompletely dissolved. then place thread in modge podge - saturate and wrap balloon. Better to use a smaller balloon than a large balloon. hmhdesigns.wordpress.com/2011/03/27/make-an-egg-shaped-easter-basket-from-string/
