  • This is an old craft that many of you might not have tried... yet. It's one of the messiest projects that I've done in years. The first time I made these was 30 years ago, and I still have them. They're time consuming but fun & can be customized any way you like them. I hope you give them a try, using what ever color and design you like. Happy Creating everyone!

How pretty Sam. I would use this even after Easter. Like add led lights and turn them into lanterns. Very creative.

Oh, I love that idea! But they'd have to be put in a place that stays dry or coat them with some clear paint. Ideas are rolling around now.

I wonder if it would work if you painted the balloon with the mod podge first and then started wrapping the string and then paint the mod podge on top🤔

Hello Sam, I just found you today. Love Love Love your creation. That is just how I remember doing the Easter string egg. Wrapping the whole thing and cutting out the hole for the base to make a stand. As I was watching so far everyone is leaving the opening. I was thinking hummmm... in the end, they were all great but something was off, especially when they were trying to get them to stand having to lean the egg up. I'm thinking what did they do with the base? What is the base? I just couldn't put my finger on it. Then click... on your beauty of a blue egg blue my favorite and there were all my elusive memories answered. BUT there is still one thing ? sugar water or was that only on the doilies. She showed what else could be done with the doily yarn, I was in awe.
Making my own egg like the ones in the china cabinet. WOW look at me hahahah At school, I clearly remember using elmer's and water. Thanks for sharing

Thank you so much! I do have a "how to make a 6 minute bow" video that I learned how to make when I was working as a floral designer. It's really easy. Have a wonderful day!

Very pretty Sam 😄 it would be fun to do with kids as well 😉
Popping the balloon would be so satisfying, if the string doesn't collapse that is 😃 lol.

Thank you! I actually did the originals with my daughter when she was very young. They shouldn't collapse is you use enough stiffener. tfw & have a Blessed Easter!

I enjoyed this demo, thank you Sam! I noticed your crochet hook keeper - did you make it? If so, I would like to see how, or it you could let me know if a pattern exists?

Hi, Mickie! Glad you liked the video. What a great idea! I made that crochet hook keeper when I got my first sewing machine at 17 years old... wow was that a long time ago. It was my own pattern. I'll definitely do a video on how I made it. Thanks for watching & have a Blessed Easter!

I actually have one of these balloon eggs that my mother made 35 years ago. I want to make them with my grandkids and I saw your tutorial and I don't remember my mom using Stiffy. I thought she used Elmer's glue. I know that the modge podge stiffy is very expensive especially if you make a 10 inch balloon. Do you think Elmer's glue would work or liquid starch. I really would like to reply back from you.
