    I was THIS CLOSE to pulling the trigger on the X55 when I started seeing articles pop up about TP-Link sharing (lots of) data with Avira, and no way to disable it. My search for an affordable WiFi mesh continues, though I may be forced to admit there is no such thing. You have to pay for it with money or data (or both).
    As always, kudos for your local-only test methodology. Testing WiFi performance with an Internet speed test doesn't really make sense, and so far you're the only reviewer I've seen not do that. Thanks!

    $185 on Amazon sales right now! This is a great deal at this price point for 3! I’d buy a tri band but for the price and range I’ll buy this and plug them in if needed. Hell for the price I can upgrade later down the road if needed

    Literally had this in my cart on Amazon, saw your review for this. Then I watched several comparisons on your channel. @@iam_dinesh I bought it. I like it overall. But I kinda liked my Google WiFi that I had before. Unfortunately that hardware was old and it was set to stop receiving security updates this year. This wifi works except for my two Chromebooks, it randomly disconnects and I cannot figure out why.

    • @ALoneWolf047
      @ALoneWolf047 Год назад

      @Roberto Mezquia Jr I don't have this particular router. But the reason your two Chromebooks keep randomly disconnecting could be due to the frequency. For example, I have tmobile 5G home internet, which offers 2.5GHZ and 5GHZ. A device I had connected to the 5GHZ kept randomly disconnecting and I kept having to reconnect it. But when I connected it to the 2.5GHZ, it hasn't disconnected once since.

    • @landpet
      @landpet  Год назад +2

      Thanks! Depends how you plan on connecting it, this thing can replace your RT86U. If you want to keep your RT86U, then you would need to connect the main X55 to the RT86U and run the X55 in access point mode, it's not something I recommend personally. If you want to stick with ASUS, I would just get another ASUS mesh like the XT9.

    • @landpet
      @landpet  2 года назад +2

      There are a few minor differences between the two, the most obvious being this has 3 ports vs 2 on the X60. There’s also a few other differences. Generally speaking they are still fairly similar. No, I haven’t tried mixing deco units but I’ve read as long as it’s a deco, it is compatible. I’ve only mixed eero units and I imagine this works the same way where each node operates at its capabilities assuming it also has a strong connection to the main router. You also want to make the best deco your main router.

    My current TP Link Extender RE650, my iPhone 14 Pro Max does not detect the Extendend 5GHz frequency, only the 2.4GHz frequency. My Pixel 7 on the other hand can see both. I want to get a Deco system to extend my Starlink router which is WiFi 5 and not 6 but I'm afraid the cheaper Deco S4 will not show the 5GHz frequency on my iPhone 14 Pro Max. It shows up fine on iPhones X, XR and 11 Pro. Please can you confirm to me that the iPhone 13 or 14 Pro Max can detect the 5GHz of this newer X55 or the older one like the S4. In an environment of 6 inches concrete walls, all filled with iron and thick concrete, and 9 to 10 inches thick of concrete ceiling each floor, and 60m large and 20m width building, with two floors. Can I buy 7 or 10 units to cover all the building, or this is an impossible task with this model? What can you tell me about?

  • @TheFirstRealChewy

    I setup this mesh (3 pack) this morning. So far I am not impressed. I've been using a single, Asus router for the last 6-7 years and figured it was time for an upgrade to get more coverage in and outside of the house.
    The mesh does well when I'm by a node, but it seems to take some time for my phone to switch (Galaxy S10+). The sad part is that right outside, in the front of my house, the signal falls off significantly.
    So the single Asus router had better range, but can't match the top speed when close to this router. Since range is more important to me, a single deco is worse than my old router. I have to use all three decos to get something a little bit better.
    I just expected to be blown away, but ended up being disappointed. I wonder if another brand will fair better. This is my first mesh router.

    Is this your range with a single unit? Or for all 3 units? Distributed in what manner? I never understood their coverage numbers. 5600 sq ft. That would be a circle of radius 45 feet. Pi*radius squared. Who has ever seen a wifi that only worked 45 feet away, even at 5GHz?

      Two of the three are connected. This is me walking away from them in a certain direction until it's unable to connect (not really line of sight since there are some things blocking its path). Since I'm walking away in a certain direction, it's really just connected to just one node until it can't connect anymore. My testing area, generally speaking is fairly open (some obstacles along the way).

      Thanks! Yes I would change the ISP router to bridge mode. Unless you have a super router with WiFi 6E and crazy fast speed rating, the Deco X55 is a pretty good mesh system with solid performance for the price.
      Advantages: Deco controls everything, you can control things easily within the Deco app. Nice, clean interface and one network to worry about that's controlled from one place.
      Disadvantage: Usually none but if you have a crazy fast wifi 6e router as your ISP, it's best to keep that and run this Deco in Access Point Mode. You always want your best router to be your main router so it could propagate the fastest possible speeds and the most range throughout your devices.

      I don't know how you have it connected or what type of modem you have, it might be a modem/router combo in which case you would need to disable the router portion of that modem router combo so the Deco can be your main router. If you're running wireless backhaul for a big house like yours you should get something more powerful to get those speeds throughout your home. @landpet....so I bought this have it set up happy running smooth....but i noticed when I logged into it with my PC....a lot of the settings / admin settings are not configurable or missing is that a thing now where you have to do it thru the app? Also I noticed the 2.8 and 5g are combine i dont have a separate network for 2.4 and 5g

      @landpet  Год назад

      Deco doesn’t have many options on the web, it’s pretty much all on the app from what I remember. You cannot separate the 2.4 from the 5GHz on the Deco. Some mesh systems like Asus brand give you that option and much more.

    I bought this becuase my internet was not reaching the speeds it should. I pay for 800 mpbs. Now with these I'm getting about 700+ in the main room but the other rooms I'm getting only 230mpbs? is that normal

    • @landpet
      @landpet  Год назад

      If it’s far enough away it is normal since this is a dual band system. That’s really the main thing the expensive mesh systems offer compared to the budget friendly systems which is really good wireless backhaul speeds.

    Is x55 same as x50?

    • @landpet
      @landpet  2 года назад

      I don't know, they look similar in specs. The X55 was sort of a new version of the X60.

    is there any diff between this and the x60?

    • @hammy434
      @hammy434 2 года назад +6

      X55's 5GHz radio is 2x2 160MHz, X60's 5GHz radio is 4x4 80MHz. X55 has an extra ethernet port (3 total ports vs X60's 2). Design is slightly different between the 2; X55 has a black top, and a "deco" logo, instead of a "tp-link" logo, and additionally has another "deco" logo on the rear above the ports. I think those are the main differences.

    when doing a wired backhaul w/o a switc... can AP 2 and 3 connect directly to AP1? or does AP1 have to go to AP2.. and then AP2 connect to AP3.
