@@danielparry3102 yes, you have to have an existing modem to use this wifi router. Your modem is through your internet provider. The deco hooks to it. It doesn't cost extra money your paying for your internet through your internet provider ATT, Charter etc. You just plug it in and you have wireless access to your internet.

      - connect it to your internet provider modem/router that you can switch to be an access point only and rely on the Deco for Wifi

Got the deco x60 because of this review, works perfectly! Updating firmware was the first thing I did once I connected the first router to the internet. Not one issue so far. Now my sister and parents have them in their homes and they're extremely pleased (had to help them a little to set it up and stuff, but it didn't take long for them to get the hang of the app). Also notices that it is possible to access the routers directly using a browser on a computer. Only thing is that the interface is very limited, the app is still the best way to go. Still it's good to have options! Thanks for the review!

I have the 3-pack, and they are wired together with 1Gbit. It really works very well, can run through the house with phone or tablet and it keeps streaming and switches automatically. If you cannot use wired backhaul, I would indeed look at a solution two simultaneous 5GHz channels so you can dedicate one to be used as backhaul.

Tip: Depending on your setup, you might have to configure each point to directly connect to the main router because in my experience both points tried to connect to each other from time to time so it slows down the extended area's connection. By default, those points are configured to automatically connect to a nearby point if the signal is better than directly connecting to the main router.

Watching this video as a long term owner of a couple of Deco M9. I agree entirely on your comments about the UI, features are burried and ambiguous.
I am here looking for a network replacement as I’m fed up with the reliability of the service they’ve provided. I’ve spent countless hours on the phone with manufacturers of various smart things due to sporadic outages, or outright failures to connect. Where Tp-Link flops entirely is their customer service, their primary focus is to blame the manufacturers of the disconnecting devices, and provide little assistance in troubleshooting such issues via port forwarding. Looking more and more like Eero will be my next replacement.

Honestly, I have been using a set of 3 decos in my house - 1 per floor and I have never had a single day without the satellite decos loosing connectivity with the main deco. It's been very frustrating and I am questioning the quality of this product. And yes, the decos are on the latest firmware. I upgraded from a single wi-fi router that offered great range by itself but offered lower bandwidth. I am close to the point of dumping them in the garbage and going back to my old router. The only solution the manufacturer has is to reboot the decos - OK - I have been doing it every single day.

    • @Ignotus.

Yeah deco routers are generally trash. Bad range, falling out, bad automatic connections between the nodes (sometimes connects to the furthest 2 floors away), and the fact you can't separate 2.4 and 5GHz bands

    • @6MonthsLater
      @6MonthsLater  3 года назад +1

Depends on how many problems you're running into vs. upgrade cost. The Eero has the advantage of having a third band for communication between the mesh points which I've found to lead to a really stable performance amongst devices connected to the mesh, so if you want to upgrade and future proof, looking for a tri-band mesh or some of the new Wifi 6E routers would generally be the direction I'd go for upgrading right now, but those routers do cost significantly more than this Deco system. - Josh

Why is it SO difficult for reviewers to include OBVIOUSLY REQUIRED INFORMATION.
For instance he states that he had some problems when he had more devices on the network, he say he had 40 or 50 devices.
BUT, BUT, BUT where those devices STREAMING DEVICES OR BROWSING DEVICES or infrequently used devices such as PRINTERS or WiFi Switches that are ACTIVATED VERY INFREQUENTLY.
Just saying that he had 40 or 50 devices on his network IS USELESS.
Why is this so difficult to understand.
I should make it clear before I am deluged by comments like, well if you have 50 devices all streaming HD Movies you will have problems.
    I KNOW THAT.
What I want to know is, does each device impose a load on the Wi-Fi router just maintaining a live connection to a device.
Are the Wi-Fi devices constantly poling user devices to ascertain if they are active or not.
Any network requires an overhead on the devices using it regardless of whether they are consuming large amounts of bandwidth or not.
