I love the idea of this but I feel like I’ll always prefer the bulkier and more adjustable one-size-fits-most headsets because I enjoy sharing it with other people. The Index has truly been phenomenal for that. It’s getting long in the tooth but it’s still amazing.
never tried the index before, only the ps5vr2 so far but i have to say: seeing through the lense videos of the index: the massive amount of screendoor effect is an absolute nogo. it makes me feel like iam looking at a cellphone display from 2004. compared to what iam used to over the last 15 years of display tech and pc gaming, seeing sde feels like 10 steps backwards. sure, 3d vr is cool, but theres nothing more immersion breaking for me then a constant grid formed reminder, that its just a display iam looking at
One thing that I never see people talk about is what additional equipment is needed for these to work properly. I know you have to purchase the controllers separately but what else needs to be purchased separately?
In the video, it looks like the refresh rate while playing in VR drops at times, does it? They could bump up resolution by means of image compression implemented in hardware for low(er) latency. 75Hz is not good enough. On my Valve Index, 120Hz is so much better than 90Hz, let alone compared to lower resolutions. Also, non-adjustable IPD is a no-go for me. I'll wait for the Index 2 or any othe newer model that significantly improves upon the Valve Index experience. Last but not least, the prescription lenses can cause additional reflections unless they have special coating layers. Try without the prescription lenses and compare to see whether there's a difference in terms of reflections. If there is an observable difference, it can be potentially fixed with better quality lenses.
I feel like this is the best place to leave this review, I purchased my BSB for sim racing only, but I’ve come across a very annoying and tedious problem, my fanatec DD2 interferes with the headset, apparently Fanatec sucks at shielding their bases properly and it causes EMI (Electro magnetic interference) wich causes the BSB to not work properly and go into a grey screen, I’ve tried a couple of things to fix it Ferrite cores and Ferrite rings 240-31, and no luck the only positive I’ve had from this is the great costumer service experience that Im having with big screen, other than that I may (more than likely) end up returning the BSB because my game is unplayable, I figured I’d leave this here in case anyone else is thinking of buying it for sim racing only, the restocking fee is 20% so quite hefty but understandable.
I wanted to buy this headset for the longest but no audio solution means I'm going to have something else on my head and I hate wearing gaming headsets over my ears but I endure it for online gaming, but here I'm gonna have the VR headset and headphones which is will be worse. Still don't know what the BSB audio solution will be like since it's not being reviewed yet. I've gotten really used to 120hz on all my displays. My phone, my TV and of course my monitor, all 120hz or higher. 90hz is a little compromise but definitely fine, 75hz feels like going back to Quest 1. So many compromises with this headset. I hope they make an updated model with build in audio and maybe 120hz, I'll preorder easily.
Will Ford, So, when are you going to host another Fan Race? I really enjoyed the hell out of it. I don't know if you if you are aware of just how larger than life you've become. Hosting that race elivated you to a hole new level. It was great fun racing with one of my Sim Racing Icons.
Considered this but when I added on the cost of a base station, controllers and audio strap I went for the Pimax Crystal instead for my sim racing. Each to their own.
Ah, I want to like this so much but without 120hz I cannot justify the buy button. Will "survive" with Index until sth better comes up, but this is soo close. Index is super good with iRacing tbh, just weight and OLED-lessness.
hey will. have you noticed some differences in terms of shaking at motion rig usage ? the Bigscreen is so light, the pimax so heavy. even my reverb g2 is bouncing so hard on my rig. like the head shaking at formula 1 helmets. thank you
Thanks for this informative content. Maybe I missed it, but does this require external bay stations or is it stand-alone except for the wire and the PC? Cheers.
I would have preferred to see the top strap go from front-to-back rather than side-to-side, because it would be less likely to interfere with headphones.
Clicked on the video just to comment how much it grinds my gears when somebody calls an HMD a "VR" You're probably reaction farming, so...well played, and all the best to you. 😅
The fixed IPD is a deal-breaker for me. It's cool, but I want to be able to share the experience. If I had unlimited funds, I'd have one of these for simming, and a Varjo for sharing. But, like all of us, I don't have unlimited funds.
May I ask you this ? I noticed Quest 3, Pico 4 using pancake lenses have a bonus of mura layer in light environment. Bigscreen beyond used pancake lenses too, so has he a mura layer same Quest 3 and Pico 4 ?
Have you tried other Pancake based lens VR headsets? I'd like to know if the glare is similar or worse in the Bigscreen Beyond headset. I've only tried the Quest 3 and it looks amazing and has pretty much zero god rays anymore compared to Fresnel lens but it does have some glare which people say is a trade off with Pancake lens, but I'd take this glare over the god rays of previous headsets.
Credit where credit is due, Meta currently has the best pancake lenses out in terms of edge to edge clarity and glare. The BSB lenses are not at that level.
As long I can get customizable parts and a future AR feature with like a drone then I'll totally spend 1 thousand dollars, especially because it seems so personal. I wanna customize it like a phone case.
I own 2 Beyond’s and I hate them. I’m a VR enthusiast and I was highly disappointed with this headset. The resolution and black levels are mind blowing, but at the sacrifice of literally everything else that’s just as important for a good VR headset. The awful lens flare alone is deal breaker for me, let alone face irritation, fogging, limited FOV especially vertical, edge distortion/ blurring, physical pressure on your eye brows and lids and the extreme performance demand on your gpu in full resolution. I wouldn’t recommend it over even a quest 3 for PCVR.
Does this headset have to be used with Steam? Wondering if I play iracing with this, or F124 through the EA app (I have EA play pro so I don't have F1 24 on steam)?
I really want one to replace my Reverb G2 but the custom sizing would mean a zero resale value and with PC sim gear only getting more and more expensive that just has to be a concern now. If not only for the cost but also the waste of not being able to pass it on to someone making it almost disposable.
Bigscreen did mention they are going to be doing replacement gaskets, so if you do end up selling the headset the new user can have a custom one made. That being said, they would need a similar IPD as you which shouldnt be hard to find a buyer for if you're within the range of most people.
@@sincity_steve Yeah I saw they were offering the faceplates seperately. What I wonder is how accurate is the IPD really from the scan and/or to what resolution are they doing the IPD. Is it to the nearest mm or 0.1mm etc. If was just to the nearest mm then maybe it would be possible to pass them on but if its more particular than that it would be hard surely.
@@grasstreefarmer IPD is measured at 1 mm increments. As for how big the sweet spot is and how close you need to be to the measured IPD, I'll be getting mine here soon hopefully and will test it out with others to see what the disparity is like.
It is cool, but they are not making it to suit 75mm IPD, so not the one for me. Something that disappoints me with VR headset manufacturers, is that there are very few headset that cater for large IPD's, up to 75mm.
Honestly, that’s because it’s a tiny amount of the population that has an ipd that high. You’re at the very end of the bell curve and each mm they accommodate for makes the headset a little bigger and heavier. Eventually they have to make a cutoff. If your ipd is that high maybe a quest pro or quest 3 would work for you since it has such a huge sweet spot.
Using DP1.4 when DP2.0 does exist feels like quite the oversight! Shame really cause being such a comfort/weight-optimised design looks really appealing, though as someone who would have to get all the external steamVR hardware to be able to use this headset maybe this was never for me 😅
Until NVidia supports DP 2.0 which may be 2025, it's almost a moot issue, but the bandwidth issue with the Bigscreen is headset related, not DP1.4 related.
Another great video Will. I do have a question and maybe this is something you can discuss. I have a setup very similar to yours. Difference is my triples are 3 4k LG C1’s not monitors. I find that VR won’t work with all three screens plugged in. I have to switch off nvidia surround and unplug the tvs. Using a 4090. Any thoughts? Btw my PiMax Crystal is a brick 🤦🏻
Nvidia imposes a limit of 4 monitors allowed at once on their gpu. I’m boot sure why you’re getting it with 3. Maybe surround is taking the 3 and making the combo the “4th”. Therefore preventing VR from working. I have to disable my top monitor to use my vr
You mention it's your go to headset but could you please elaborate further on BSS vs Aero? In the aero review you said it was very comfortable so why would you still take the BSB? Considering the drawbacks on resolution, foveated rendering, etc.. I've been searching for an answer to this everywhere online with no luck so would really appreciate your input 😄
Simply down to the reduced weight and size. The aero is very comfortable for what it is, but smaller and lighter ultimately wins this game of compromises for me at least.
I get the good points of this headset, but for 1k, there's just better alternatives that offer more, OLED screen itself isn't enough for me to get one. I prefer a higher refresh rate, especially when im racing
Don't worry too much. I had pretty severe motion sickness when I started. Just take it slow, don't overdo it, take breaks frequently and in time your body will adjust. I now rarely get any motion sickness, unless the screen is floating because of loss of traction or something similar (at which point.. just close your eyes until it fixes itself)
Run a fan, wear shorts and no socks. Stay hydrated. Consider ginger or dremamine. Some will tell you to teleport, but I disagree. If you like First Person Shooters, you'll need to learn to adapt to smooth turning. It's so much fun. Half Life Alyx and it's gun play is so immersive.
What he ^ said. Also, don't worry if you do get motion sickness - I did way back when when I first tried VR, but taking the above steps and continuing to play a little bit every day (don't overdo it!), I got over my VR motion sickness entirely very quickly, within a few weeks. Nowadays I'm completely immune.
hi will! can you do a review and compare the differences between the new p1x pro and the p1x. could you also do a comparison between the dbox g5 and the qubic systems qs 220? Thanks!
There is no possible way that I would buy any headset that does not have an adequate sound solution. If you have ever tried a Valve Index, HP Reverb G2, or Pimax KDMAS on their headsets, then you understand. You see, the thing is that they are trying to sell you a device that is supposed to mimic a theater scenario for watching movies; but I always watch movies with sound. I always play games with sound too. And one thing I don't want to do is put on headphones or wear earbuds. The sound solution on the Valve, HP, and Pimax headsets are off-ear, part of the headset, and sound incredible. Additionally, the Big Screen Beyond has big screen glare, and when you begin your session it also has big screen foggy lenses until the device warms up, and it also has no pass-through at all. This is a Big pass for me. You can't even share the thing with friends because it requires a custom face pad *ONLY* for you. I wouldn't buy this thing for $50.
feels very overpriced with the varjo aero being pricecut now. all the extra feature you get on the varjo and it's cheaper now... still i feel like the pricecut is just a message to the public that bigger better things are closeby, what some might call a VR3.0 so to speak. with smaller form factors, DFR, eye tracking and high refresh / high res displays. i'd love to see something that packs the same hardware as a varjo aero or a pimax crystal but in a form factor halfway between a varjo aero and this bigscreen beyond unit. with the index style audio solution. i'd pay 2k for that without a doubt.
As an Aero owner who paid full price, I'm very much looking forward to the Bigscreen Beyond and expect it to be my daily driver. I have already got a great IEM solution with short cables for my Aero that I'll use on the Bigscreen Beyond. The upside is that the IEM's have 37dB of attenuation so I can't hear my motion or tactile system in game on my rig improving immersion.
i know, the knee jerk reaction here is always: "well then its not meant for you, go look somewhere else" but the thing is, there is nothing else like this, but the fixed ipd and no way to adjust it, is just the nogo because i want to share this headset with my wife, and since i have 67mm and she has 56, the difference is just to big. thus the headset is out. but besides that, THIS is the headset i would wanna have, because all the pros that are important to me, are there, and the downsides of this one are the ones, i care the least about. only pain is: no inside tracking, would mean another 600 bucks for controllers and basestations.. but the vr market these days is only: enthusiast 1600+ dollar setups, or midrange standalone hardware for the casual.. theres nothing current gen in between and thats the market iam in for. HP is pulling out, pico lay offs. valve deckard silence for 4 years.. its not looking good for 800-1100 dollar pcvr hardware.. and when it comes to the question in the video "if this is the right headset for you?" i can only answer, from everything ive read an seen so far, there is no headset right for me.. what i want: -display port connection, so no compression at all Manual IPD adjustment (no automatic, unecessary extra cost for minimal comfort gain, i can do that myself) -2560x2560 res minimum, so that theres no real screendoor effect -105+ degree FOV -Eye tracking and Fovated rendering -Pancake lenses on quest 3 levels -oled would be nice, otherwise local dimming lc display -inside out tracking and controllers included on quest 3 level of tracking quality i dont need any standalone hardware, its just dead weight and additional cost for pcvr all the other downsides and problems, like mura, goodrays, chromatic abberation is something i can live with so all that, for around 1.000 bucks, which is around twice the price of the quest 3, which has standalone hardware
@@Eskoxo why? Besides the lack of inside out tracking and pass thru lenses (which I don't care about as a simracer), and besides the form factor which is basically it's only advantage, seems like the quality of the optics and resolutions would be quite similar (especially at 90hz)?
@@SalvatoreIovene Steamvr tracking(inconvenient for some but its still superior tracking and allows to add additional trackers for things like full body tracking), uncompressed DisplayPort image, m-oled panels, form factor, better performance on gpu( due to DisplayPort connection), and no network latency(when compared to wireless, or even usb as you need to compress/uncompress)… anyways if these things do not matter to you just get quest3 its a more versatile headset in other ways and big screen is more of a niche product that was never meant for mass market just enthusiasts with specific use cases.
To me, the #1 deal-breaker with these is the utter lack of pass-through video, and the mandatory need for lighthouse base stations. Both those serious limitations are bad enough, but the inability to share with friends and family (due to their detailed customization) which also severely limits their re-sellability, puts these out of contention for my tethered VR use-case. Which is a disappointment tbf. [edited for typos]

never tried the index before, only the ps5vr2 so far but i have to say: seeing through the lense videos of the index: the massive amount of screendoor effect is an absolute nogo. it makes me feel like iam looking at a cellphone display from 2004. compared to what iam used to over the last 15 years of display tech and pc gaming, seeing sde feels like 10 steps backwards. sure, 3d vr is cool, but theres nothing more immersion breaking for me then a constant grid formed reminder, that its just a display iam looking at
One thing that I never see people talk about is what additional equipment is needed for these to work properly. I know you have to purchase the controllers separately but what else needs to be purchased separately?
I believe you need 2 base stations and controllers.
Ok enough of the reviews. I am ready for mine to arrive! Ordered day 1 in OZ
Would you really recommend this over the Varjo Aero as they are now priced the same?
I feel like this is the best place to leave this review, I purchased my BSB for sim racing only, but I’ve come across a very annoying and tedious problem, my fanatec DD2 interferes with the headset, apparently Fanatec sucks at shielding their bases properly and it causes EMI (Electro magnetic interference) wich causes the BSB to not work properly and go into a grey screen, I’ve tried a couple of things to fix it
Ferrite cores and Ferrite rings 240-31, and no luck the only positive I’ve had from this is the great costumer service experience that Im having with big screen, other than that I may (more than likely) end up returning the BSB because my game is unplayable, I figured I’d leave this here in case anyone else is thinking of buying it for sim racing only, the restocking fee is 20% so quite hefty but understandable.
Didnt consider change fanatec base to something else? I moved to simucube and best decision ever. However asetek might be good too.
I really want this headset but I want to hear that they plan on producing a wireless adapter, wireless is the biggest game changer in VR
Will either need a proprietary standard or Wifi 7 with an 8x8 antenna to make that work properly with wireless.
The price of this headset is $200 more than i paid for my Quest 3, wheel, pedals, shifter and racing chair lol
You can get the audio strap around December - January if their predictions hold
Will Ford, So, when are you going to host another Fan Race? I really enjoyed the hell out of it. I don't know if you if you are aware of just how larger than life you've become. Hosting that race elivated you to a hole new level. It was great fun racing with one of my Sim Racing Icons.
The Vision Pro needs to come down to this size before I’ll consider one.
Have you tried psvr2?
Is bigscreen beyond more impressive for simracing?
Considered this but when I added on the cost of a base station, controllers and audio strap I went for the Pimax Crystal instead for my sim racing. Each to their own.
I went with pimax only because its not native resolution at90Hz.
Cheers.
Requires lighthouses.
Lighthouses? Would you get away with one?
@@scottkostric8379 you could do but it's recommended you get two for more precise tracking
Since I would be using this for almost entirely in VRC, 75hz would be just fine.
I definitely want to get my hands on one of these
I would have preferred to see the top strap go from front-to-back rather than side-to-side, because it would be less likely to interfere with headphones.
Clicked on the video just to comment how much it grinds my gears when somebody calls an HMD a "VR"
You're probably reaction farming, so...well played, and all the best to you. 😅
So close to what I want in a VR headset.
Yet so far
Man i really want to replace my Reverb G2 with one of these. Sucks being broke lol Bigscreen send me one and I'll be eternally grateful :)
How would this one compare in image quality do the likes of Meta Quest 2?
^ It won't need to be that precise; if that was the case then other headsets wouldn't be able to get away with having only three IPD settings.
@@grasstreefarmer IPD is measured at 1 mm increments. As for how big the sweet spot is and how close you need to be to the measured IPD, I'll be getting mine here soon hopefully and will test it out with others to see what the disparity is like.
worriesome if you have to adjust it while playing sitting down in a sim. Wonder how bad it is if you play shooters or something more physical.
when do you review the sim forge pedals?
More importantly, when did you get a Lotis Emira?
It is cool, but they are not making it to suit 75mm IPD, so not the one for me. Something that disappoints me with VR headset manufacturers, is that there are very few headset that cater for large IPD's, up to 75mm.
Honestly, that’s because it’s a tiny amount of the population that has an ipd that high. You’re at the very end of the bell curve and each mm they accommodate for makes the headset a little bigger and heavier. Eventually they have to make a cutoff.
If your ipd is that high maybe a quest pro or quest 3 would work for you since it has such a huge sweet spot.
bro i been waiting for this one ! i hope you try this with ACC
Always wondered how VR can be used if you use lenses for astigmatism…?
Can you return Big-screen beyond if you don't like it or it is not possible due it is custom order?
What car do I see in the background there? Replaced the M2?
right now.... this or the pixmax crystal ? have to choose 1
I prefer this to the crystal.
Using DP1.4 when DP2.0 does exist feels like quite the oversight! Shame really cause being such a comfort/weight-optimised design looks really appealing, though as someone who would have to get all the external steamVR hardware to be able to use this headset maybe this was never for me 😅
Well, what if I told you that a 4080 only supports DP 1.4? Shame that not only Bigscreen made an oversight..
How do aero and crystal deal with this issue? Is it really dp1.4 or just bigscreen.
Until NVidia supports DP 2.0 which may be 2025, it's almost a moot issue, but the bandwidth issue with the Bigscreen is headset related, not DP1.4 related.
@@markkovalcson7243 ah yeah there I go mouthing off without confirming with the relevant info lol, appreciate the correction
Quest 3 review please
Aaaah! Great point. I’ll try that. I wonder if it’s setting the PiMax as two monitors?
They sent me shipping details this week! 🥳 Can't wait to get it
preordered when? i ordered yeaterday
@@moncimoov March 23rd
I feel like the next version will be THE headset....
But do I spend 1.5k now? Or wait .. dunno 4? Years until that happens?
You mention it's your go to headset but could you please elaborate further on BSS vs Aero? In the aero review you said it was very comfortable so why would you still take the BSB? Considering the drawbacks on resolution, foveated rendering, etc.. I've been searching for an answer to this everywhere online with no luck so would really appreciate your input 😄
Simply down to the reduced weight and size. The aero is very comfortable for what it is, but smaller and lighter ultimately wins this game of compromises for me at least.
@@boostedmedia Thanks! Placed an order for the BSB with your link :)
The only reason I went with Pimax for sim racing because native resolution does not support 90Hz @@boostedmedia
hi, do you plan to review the quest 3?
Hello, do need the SteamVR Base Stations for the bigscreen to work on DCS world? Thanks
Is it possible to set it up and use without getting any controllers?
I get the good points of this headset, but for 1k, there's just better alternatives that offer more, OLED screen itself isn't enough for me to get one. I prefer a higher refresh rate, especially when im racing
Iv just ordered a quest 3, iv never even tried VR so hope i dont get motion sickness 😂
How does this work for glasses wearers? I guess you have to wear contacts?
They have an option for prescription lens inserts
Hey will , I just got a quest 2 and it’s ripping out my hair does the big screen beyond so that
hi will! can you do a review and compare the differences between the new p1x pro and the p1x. could you also do a comparison between the dbox g5 and the qubic systems qs 220?
Soundcore VR P10 are Perfect for this headset
Only thing that puts me off is the 90hz mode is not in native resolution
That’s a major deal breaker and it should be highlighted 😮
It's a displayport bandwidth restriction, so it's not really something that is the Beyond headset's fault.
Idk why but when I try my Bluetooth headphones the fiber optic cable causes interference with Bluetooth =( idk what to do
feels very overpriced with the varjo aero being pricecut now. all the extra feature you get on the varjo and it's cheaper now... still i feel like the pricecut is just a message to the public that bigger better things are closeby, what some might call a VR3.0 so to speak. with smaller form factors, DFR, eye tracking and high refresh / high res displays. i'd love to see something that packs the same hardware as a varjo aero or a pimax crystal but in a form factor halfway between a varjo aero and this bigscreen beyond unit. with the index style audio solution. i'd pay 2k for that without a doubt.
@@markkovalcson7243 okay interesting, is it purely the small form factor that made you choose the bigscreen?
i know, the knee jerk reaction here is always: "well then its not meant for you, go look somewhere else" but the thing is, there is nothing else like this, but the fixed ipd and no way to adjust it, is just the nogo because i want to share this headset with my wife, and since i have 67mm and she has 56, the difference is just to big. thus the headset is out. but besides that, THIS is the headset i would wanna have, because all the pros that are important to me, are there, and the downsides of this one are the ones, i care the least about. only pain is: no inside tracking, would mean another 600 bucks for controllers and basestations.. but the vr market these days is only: enthusiast 1600+ dollar setups, or midrange standalone hardware for the casual.. theres nothing current gen in between and thats the market iam in for. HP is pulling out, pico lay offs. valve deckard silence for 4 years.. its not looking good for 800-1100 dollar pcvr hardware.. and when it comes to the question in the video "if this is the right headset for you?" i can only answer, from everything ive read an seen so far, there is no headset right for me.. what i want:
-display port connection, so no compression at all
Manual IPD adjustment (no automatic, unecessary extra cost for minimal comfort gain, i can do that myself)
-2560x2560 res minimum, so that theres no real screendoor effect
-105+ degree FOV
-Eye tracking and Fovated rendering
-Pancake lenses on quest 3 levels
-oled would be nice, otherwise local dimming lc display
-inside out tracking and controllers included on quest 3 level of tracking quality
i dont need any standalone hardware, its just dead weight and additional cost for pcvr
all the other downsides and problems, like mura, goodrays, chromatic abberation is something i can live with
so all that, for around 1.000 bucks, which is around twice the price of the quest 3, which has standalone hardware
Refresh rate?
Very Happy with my Quest 3 at 540€ with Virtual Desktop at Godlike 120fps 500mbps H264+
good for the price but not really same class
Went to buy one until I realized it’s tethered. Needs a box i put in my pocket or something
Maybe one day. Maybe one day.
What’s the name of it
If they wanted it for movies it should run at 72 hz.
im looking at this in bigscreen lol
I waited and saved almost a year for this, and it is just insanely uncomfortable on my right eye socket, no matter how I arrange the head band, carved some right eye piece foam out and it still puts intense strain on the right eye, the left feels awesome, the visuals are great, i just can't play any longer than an hour, the IPD and scanning may leave something to be desired
