      I feel like it because so many of us have walked down the same path. One of the most important things my parents taught me was to start over as many times as necessary. If I have a pulse God has a plan! Not many people will allow themselves to be as transparent as you have been. So square your shoulders and just look back to remind yourself of the lesson’s you learned and keep it moving. You have no idea how many lives, households watch, study and apply the content you share. I am counting on you!!!

    April I have had to start over twice. My husband died in December and I fell off the wagon. Started back over in March and then in July our home was destroyed by a tree making my daughter and I move out to a rental. I am starting over. Life happens and it can suck. April, I think sometimes we get carried away with the budgeting momentum because it is a thrill to see money adding up in our envelopes. We forget that we budget so that we can face life's challenges too, when it happens. Dave Ramsey calls him Murphy. You had that cash when you needed it the most and that is what really matters. Had you not been budgeting, you would have been in a more worse situation. Don't give up, change your perspective and know that you really are just like all the rest of us. Human. Trying to get by in life....BUT....we have a secret weapon....The Budget!
    Thank-you for being vulnerable and transparent. It makes me feel normal. Great video!

      @@Aprilsonabudget Thanks for liking my comment. I also wanted to pass on that with the experience that you recently had, that tells me to beef up the emergency funds. Me included. That way we dip less into our other funds. There are so many people out there who don’t budget and it’s catastrophic for them. This is why you do what you do on RUclips to hopefully help those who need to learn the system. Thanks so much!

    Hi April,
    I commend you for being brave and transparent with your RUclips family. It's okay to admit that you messed up on something and it's okay to start over/refresh. Give yourself some grace. Look at the positive. Your hard work and passion for what you do is actually what helped your situation. Imagine if you never took the time to save like you did. You were able to pay off $900 on debt at the drop of a hat. Everybody can't say that. And $20 seems small compared to what you had saved up when this happened but that's $20 not being wasted elsewhere and $20 towards your goals. Thank you for sharing and please know what you're going through is normal/life. It's okay. 💙

    • @Aprilsonabudget

      If we couldn't make the minimum payments ( and then some) I'd agree. But very few people are debt free these days as something always pups. But children are only children for so long. If I waited to be out of debt to go to Disney we wouldn't be able to go until she is an adult. I wouldn't save for Disney at the expense of bills or debt.

      I’m a 76 year old grandmother with six grandchildren, 15, 13, 10, 8, 4, newborn (two families). Not one of the kids have been to Disney nor will they ever go. It’s never even been discussed. It’s an insanely expensive vacation. I can absolutely promise you that while disappointed, your kids will survive. It’s actually a valuable learning experience. Kids hit college so totally unprepared to manage money, credit cards, student loans, entertainment they are over their heads at 21.

    • @Aprilsonabudget
      @Aprilsonabudget  11 месяцев назад +2

      @MrFalla1 Thankyou. I've never claimed a child can't live without Disney. I've never been to any Country outside North America, but that doesn't mean I think others shouldn't go. I had the pleasure of taking my now adult Son to Disney when he was 12 and it's a Vacation we both treasure and Cherish to this day. I never knew then that I'd have another child at 42, but I knew someday I'd be going back with my family. It's not a trip for my kids, it's a trip for our Family. None of us has had a vacation in 10 yrs so I'm not ashamed to want one formour family. Thankyou for watching.

      @@MrsEJVcompletely agree. Children pick up on what we value based on what we DO - especially in stressful and/or important times. We were committed to including and showing our children that vacations were dependent on the choices we made regarding our family’s finances. Otherwise, what do they learn -- That it’s perfectly fine to have debt and still get to enjoy the big vacations, or whatever “it” is that’s truly not a NEED but a WANT. Needs and wants are NOT the same and are indeed completely different.

    April, this is my first time seeing your channel and this is the video that was suggested to me. I am in a similar situation. I am so grateful to have found your video! FIRST, let me say you and your husband are doing AWESOME. You are graciously letting us into your life, which you never have to do. The two of you were trying to help each other and in the end set yourselves back. much like the book the Gift of the Magi. As horrible as that must feel in the moment, that shows the love you have for each other. But the important thing is you started communicating. As long as you do that and stay in step and be open and honest you guys will bounce back and be where you want to be. I hear the pain in your voice. I was JUST there. Our bills took a hit because I was not putting money where it needed to go. I finally opened up to my husband and after being totally embarrassed and thinking he would be mad, he simply said "Thank you for telling me. Please lean on me." I was in tears at the support and love in that small sentence. You guys got this! Just stick together and stick to it. You can do this. Thank you for sharing your story with us. It takes an incredible amount of strength to put such a personal thing out there. We are in hard times, but I hope and pray you guys get above water and in a more comfortable place SOON! Thank you for letting me know I (and many others) are not alone. Sometimes you can feel like you are drowning alone in darkness with this type of situation because we don't tend to talk about these things with other people. Oh, and don't worry about ANY negative comments. This is between you and your family. Only YOU can determine what works for you. ~Steph

      Thankyou so much 💓. I think the negative comments are from those that haven't either followed before or since. They seem to think we are living paycheck to paycheck but we aren't. We aren't rich by any stretch but we just put to much in the Binders at the expense of our bills which set us back. We took a few months, came up with a plan and put ourselves back on track with more responsible saving. We can't save much but all our bills are now paid and our debt is decreasing not increasing, so I think we're headed in the right direction! Thankyou for watching and thankyou for your lovely comment! ❤️

    I never watched any of your videos before this came up as a recommendation and I just wanna share my two cents that we don’t get into debt knowing how not to go into debt and it’s all a learning curve what has happened to you and your husband is all part of a learning curve. You now know what to look for and the communication to have with your partner to get on track. Unlike a lot of other financial RUclips channels, you are sharing the low point of this journey which is crucial for people who are trying to learn how to budget how to pay off debt how to combine incomes. I commend you for sharing that I’m sorry for the pain that you have gone through during this growing time, but it will help you in the long run to avoid these issues.

They are only with you a short while and then they are grown have their own lives. I don’t know if you follow the Budget Mom. She says you should never put your life on hold even if you have debt. She is very successful and has been debt free . She is good to watch please find her if you haven’t yet. As far as falling behind and starting over it happens. No one should be judging you. Shame on them if they do. Emergencies happen to everyone at some point and they can’t fault you on YOUR decisions. If you make a mistake you learn and move on. You’ve got this. Thank you Sis. I have been having financial challenges since my divorce 16 years ago. From almost losing my house to saving it, to being a single mom then an empty nester, then the terrible highs & lows of menopause & somewhere in there we have to balance being responsible & living a good life. Depression & Anxiety impact sooooo many of us due to all this stuff that clutters our minds. Please give yourself grace. & please know that you are a blessing to others. I've only started cash stuffing. Baby steps. & thank you. ❤

      I hope things are better for you now. My anxiety began during a similar experience. I spent 7 long years going thru my divorce. In the 1st 2 yrs I lost everything including my house and was left with only a Mountain of legal debt. Then had to get thru the next 5 yrs trying to support my kids whilst paying Lawyers and keeping a roof over our heads and food in thier bellies until the divorce was finally finalized and I could pay everything off and start fresh. I swear I still have ptsd from that time in my life. Sometimes, when I'm feeling low. I look back at that time in my life, and I become immediately grateful for everything in my life today. But it's left me with this little voice in my head that reminds me it could happen again. So debt gives me major anxiety. Even small debt. Thankyou for watching.

Please know you are not alone either. Thank you for your bravery in sharing your current story…the operative word here is current…not permanent! Starting over is just what it is nothing more nothing less. We can learn from what causes us to have to start over so do that and move forward…that’s what I’m trying to do. You both sound like good people that are just going through a tough time in life. You both are making positive changes in your finances together. Good for you both. I remember reading a christmas story years ago. It is about a husband and wife, who are poor but work hard to get by. For Christmas the wife sells her hair to buy the husband a new chain for his watch because she knows how much he loves it, how much he depends on it for work and she hopes to make his life easier as he is working to support their family. The husband sells his watch to buy his wife a hairbrush, because he has seen her so patiently grow her hair long down her back, braid it each day before making dinner. He hopes to help her feel beautiful and make it easier to care for herself, not just for him. That is exactly what you both did for each other. Sacrifice can be a beautiful thing 💜 go hug your husband because y'all have a beautiful union. (common law, my butt, thats what he is!)

    Hi April I just found your channel and I’m sad this is first video I was introduced to you by. You are an adult with real problems, please do not let the other people who are saving and make it look easy discourage you. No one said this process would be easy. The great thing about life is if you mess up you can try again. Practice makes perfect. This is my second time doing envelope stuffing and I am in twice the debt I was in before. But just knowing that I successfully done it before, motivates me to be able to do it again. There is no handbook on life. Please don’t beat yourself up! Life happens, give grace to yourself. People need to chill. We all make mistakes. Buying something we dont need that has no resale value, buying too much food and forgetting it to spoil, WHATEVER. The point is, we all goof up and will do so until the day we die. Next question... what can we learn from our mistake? Give ourselves the permission the donate that item that cant resell, throw away the spoiled food.. then immediatly take steps to do better. Fix it and move on! ❤ Some folks will fixate on the point of failure, some will fixate on guilt of failure, but the successful ones will forgive, learn, and do better!

    You have shown great courage in first admitting and accepting that there may have been a problem - and then tackling it. So many experts who work with every day people will say the same thing to you. There are plenty of people who really bury their heads in the sand and hope that it will go away and all that does is make the problem worse. I hope you continue with the same strength you have shown in this video and I wish you all the best. x

    April, I would like to make a few Suggestions, not bad ones maybe they will give you ideas on helping your budget.
    The first one is When you get a big amount of money pay a big chunk on the largest credit cars, and pay off your Callihan, even if you have a tight budget for 2 wks til you get paid..It's worth it.
    Next is I live in the country, and we have well water, It's OK to cook with, take showers, and wash dishes with, the hot water, has like to much iron in it, so we really don't drink the water it won't hurt us but we just dont..
    We had gotten a water softener from a hard ware store, but it didn't last long because it didn't take care of all the iron and mineral in it.
    Here's the drinking water solution..
    Walmart had a water stand and the huge water jugs you just put on the stand it plugs in and you can drink that water, it cold or you can put ice in it..Also they make ones you can flip a switch if you want hot water.
    The jug only cost $25. I don't even go through that much a month. It's up to you to buy more water in the jug as you run out, or buy bottled water..You buy the stand out right, it cost me $90 for mine but you can buy a nicer one for like $125 or how ever much you want to spend on it..
    Way cheaper the the Culligan set.. put a filter on your kitchen fact, it just screws on it and filters your water.. you can buy that at Walmart or a hard ware store..
    Not expensive at all..
    These are suggestions for you..

    • @Aprilsonabudget
      @Aprilsonabudget  Год назад +1

      Yes, we don't drink our water, we buy it. But our water really smelled bad and was very discolored. Also made my hair like straw. We required a filtration system unfortunately. But agreed, I won't drink it or cook with it even though we've been assured it's safe...I just can't do it lol. As for the debt and culligan, thats exactly what we're doing, but we have to take care of arrears first. Currently my card is the only one I want to access in an emergency so I want to get it at least 1k below the limit which is why I put the extra 100 there and an extra 100 on the biggest card. But yes...after the arrears and my cards 1k, culligan will become my main focus...that suckered needs to go. Thank you so much for watching and for your input. ❤
