Love the music selection ...it went from almost a Danny Elfinish feel to a Vince Guarldi vibe. All I can say about the winter months is embrace it. I was the same way about winter hiking/camping..one of my friends kept hounding me to try it...I did it,now I love it. I bet you can really capture some winter shots that make us feel nostalgic...for me the snow and the cold make me feel retrospective, nostalgic, and makes me think just how fast a year goes by. NEVER EVER LOSE OUR CHILD LIKE CURIOSITY...EVER. Love your show man. Rock On!

This. Just all of this. I have to tell you Ted that I learn a lot from your approach, simple, take in the scene and find the most creative way to capture it. I recently adopted this ideology in a simple shot of evening traffic on a bridge, a slow and steady flight, no frills or anything fancy, just flew in a straight line at a couple of MPH letting the imagery drive it. It got me several thousand followers in a period of a couple of weeks on IG. So a huge thanks to you and your channel for showing me the way, not just the actions to take, but the philosophy of it all. BTW I had to laugh out loud at the "is this illegal?" man that always goes through my head.
Eric! thank you for this amazing comment. I observed many big Hollywood flying shots in big movies and they keep it so simple. So I started doing the same with my little camera. I remember hearing a major Hollywood DP say that you don’t want the audience to recognize that the shot was filmed on a drone or a helicopter. You want the audience to be consumed by the content…..NOT what type of camera is recording the scene. So you’re up in NorCal?

Inspirational video, Ted. You're right, I often head out with my drone worrying I still don't know nearly enough about all the technicalities of the hobby to achieve the end result I'm hoping for, shackling my creativity in the process. Thanks for reminding me about the enormous fun I had with my very first camera drone, long before I had a clue about what so many 'experts' insisted I should be doing.👌👍

This is a great video, and inspriring. At 58 and retired from the corporate life, I was always a great problem solver but never creative artistically. That's why I'm on RUclips and trying to incorporate my love of drones into my footage more and more. I want to learn to visualize the shots like you do BEFORE you are shooting them. Great video Ted. The childlike approach to creativity is probably why for so many bands their first album is the best. And then it’s never quite the same again when the record labels put pressure on them. Funnily enough I also left finance. I quit an economics degree at a prestigious university and took up painting. My parents were thrilled. But we find what we’re meant to do in our own time

Well ted here in Sydney Australia are going into summer however our hot summer days limit the time of day to get drone shots but i mostly shoot in the early mornings anyway less people and beautiful colours that time of the morning another great video ted cheers col from Sydney Australia 🇦🇺 👍

Man, you hit the nail on the head. There is so much criticism around settings and the use of filters. Auto mode has actually been better for me than manual because I am not a professional photographer and frankly don’t know how or in most cases don’t remember to adjust settings according to the scene. I’m going to have to check out that book as well.
@@TedNemeth , thanks! Yeah, work takes me all over the place but I take my drones and pocket with me everywhere so I try to get at least one day in for some play time. Lol. Heading to the Philippines in a couple of weeks and I will be there for the month - strictly vacation though so I’ll definitely get some air time.
I love how you recognized the park composition was too cluttered, then found a brilliant solution with the train to build a great composition three layers deep! Showing it Black and white was icing on the cake!!

Love the channel. It's a nice touch to call out Albert from the Netherlands. I started flying three years ago and at 76, I am a qualified drone pilot in the UK flying the DJI Mavic Classic (I still won't part with my Mini Pro). My advice, get plenty of practice in. Share your creativity at whatever level you are at - we all become creative by being creative. Offer to do stuff for the experience and add it to your portfolio. You will know when you are ready to charge more.
I've was taking and developing film age 12 always ignored advice to be a photographer. Now in my retirement years, I'm able to catch up with my creative side. Keep up your great work@@TedNemeth

i really appreciate that. This was one of my favorite episodes. Not sure many people like this kind of vlog format. I actually do not shoot in D-CineLike. It is not a true log profile. Its not flat enough to give enough benefit to justify going through the steps of having to restore the exposure and colors back to they where when recording. Just my personal experience. So I shoot in the standard picture profile.
This is just what I needed. I'm a beginner and falling into the 'buy everything' trap. Thanks Ted....I'm going to slow down, smell the snow and find a scene.
Great points, Ted! I need some of that motivation stuff. I see places I want to fly quite often. I'll scout it out but hardly get around to doing it. I think it's the drone stigma and I need to get over that. Every time I do brave the public eye, I come away totally stoked to do more. But I'm also tied to a 9-5 and I'm an active dad who can't get his kids to fly. They don't see it as fun (smh)

I only have a UV filter - for a bit of protection and dealing with harsh sunlight. I've been messing with cameras for more than 40 years and I can't remember what all the settings do... I just take photos!

I always like B&W vibe in all creative medias, something just easy in my eyes either video or photo...but not B&W silent movie 😅....and yes, your YT that make me not realy thingking about ND filter, manual setting, and other jargon that firstly i dig up and overwhelmed....now i back to basic...fly for fun since the first person enjoy my posting...is me...😊.
I initially thought the drone was going to be a flying camera, and it more or less is, but..... it's become more, a literal scavenger hunt built within my life, and to be honest, I love to fly and don't care anymore about the why! In fact, I'm going to go fly now, and I might not record! (That last part might be a lie, unless my card is full, then procrastination for the win!)
I live in nj now. I still fly I am actually a nyc public school teacher and on my free time I fly and if a real estate agent needs I shoot homes for them. Honestly been trying to pick up anything extra. I wanted to ask you when you when you flew in Coney Island were you worried about police at all? I know they made a new rule if you don’t pay them $150 for a drone permit you’re not allowed to fly. So I have been really scared to fly again nyc. What are your thoughts on that? I would love to hear from you. Thank you again.
Black & White was the key to killing the clutter it became another beast entirely, it went from a kaleidoscope of clutter and objects to a snapshot in time.
All my life I've been creative and depressed with the jobs I've had, so when I got engaged almost 18 years ago I set myself to finding the job that would make me happy. I thought maybe being a cabinetmaker would allow me to be creative. Did an apprenticeship and got qualified and didn't enjoy it. Went to university and got a degree in environmental design with a major in furniture design. That wasn't what I was searching for either. It wasn't about making objects, I just wanted to be creative. Then I started my first RUclips channel 4 1/2 years ago and from the first video I knew I had truly found what I love doing in filmmaking. Am I any good at it? I don't think so, but that just means I have so many things to learn and experience to gain. Planning to film my first short film in 2024 to possibly enter into short film competitions, and I'm also in the process of plotting out a feature film screenplay. Definitely going to put the book you mentioned in my to buy list. Oh and on a drone related note, I killed my Mini 3 Pro this morning by accidently cutting a tree down onto it. Tree got hung up and fell the wrong way. Now I have a great slow motion shot of the tree falling and killing the little guy.

Ted something's just hit me watching your latest episode. I've been using the internet since the good old modem days from 1996 onwards, when you'd be called a geek, a nerd or a weirdo for saying that you had access to it as though it was some form of taboo subject (oh how times have changed!). What did just hit me is that you are by far my most favourite creator I've watched since RUclips's inception nearly 20 years ago. Passionate, detailed, intricate but with a superb blend of playfulness, perfectionist styles and life inspiration that makes you shine above anything I've ever been subscribed to. The next time I'm in New York from the UK (which at current run-rate is about once every 10 years 😂) I have to buy you a beer, Sir. Thank you for sharing what you love to do.
Absolutely amazing my friend. I needed to hear that this morning. The types of videos I create do not get many clicks so it’s been a bit of a struggle the past 2 years to grow this business. It was a tough decision to figure out my own unique style and stick with it….despite very slow growth. As I start to travel & volunteer in mid 2024 I hope the backdrop of those adventures will help? @@TedNemeth need wide for Astro, if that LUMIX is a crop sensor then that’s about 50mm. You can do a pano and stick them. I use 15mm or my Sony 12-24

Love the channel. It's a nice touch to call out Albert from the Netherlands. I started flying three years ago and at 76, I am a qualified drone pilot in the UK flying the DJI Mavic Classic (I still won't part with my Mini Pro). My advice, get plenty of practice in. Share your creativity at whatever level you are at - we all become creative by being creative. Offer to do stuff for the experience and add it to your portfolio. You will know when you are ready to charge more.

Another fantastic vid Ted, by far one of the best, especially for beginners. Seems to me you shoot most of your vids in D-cinelike or are you changing the composition in post?
i really appreciate that. This was one of my favorite episodes. Not sure many people like this kind of vlog format. I actually do not shoot in D-CineLike. It is not a true log profile. Its not flat enough to give enough benefit to justify going through the steps of having to restore the exposure and colors back to they where when recording.
Just my personal experience. So I shoot in the standard picture profile.

Great points, Ted! I need some of that motivation stuff. I see places I want to fly quite often. I'll scout it out but hardly get around to doing it. I think it's the drone stigma and I need to get over that. Every time I do brave the public eye, I come away totally stoked to do more. But I'm also tied to a 9-5 and I'm an active dad who can't get his kids to fly. They don't see it as fun (smh)

I initially thought the drone was going to be a flying camera, and it more or less is, but..... it's become more, a literal scavenger hunt built within my life, and to be honest, I love to fly and don't care anymore about the why! In fact, I'm going to go fly now, and I might not record! (That last part might be a lie, unless my card is full, then procrastination for the win!)

I live in nj now. I still fly I am actually a nyc public school teacher and on my free time I fly and if a real estate agent needs I shoot homes for them. Honestly been trying to pick up anything extra.
I wanted to ask you when you when you flew in Coney Island were you worried about police at all? I know they made a new rule if you don’t pay them $150 for a drone permit you’re not allowed to fly. So I have been really scared to fly again nyc. What are your thoughts on that? I would love to hear from you. Thank you again.

All my life I've been creative and depressed with the jobs I've had, so when I got engaged almost 18 years ago I set myself to finding the job that would make me happy. I thought maybe being a cabinetmaker would allow me to be creative. Did an apprenticeship and got qualified and didn't enjoy it. Went to university and got a degree in environmental design with a major in furniture design. That wasn't what I was searching for either. It wasn't about making objects, I just wanted to be creative. Then I started my first RUclips channel 4 1/2 years ago and from the first video I knew I had truly found what I love doing in filmmaking. Am I any good at it? I don't think so, but that just means I have so many things to learn and experience to gain. Planning to film my first short film in 2024 to possibly enter into short film competitions, and I'm also in the process of plotting out a feature film screenplay. Definitely going to put the book you mentioned in my to buy list. Oh and on a drone related note, I killed my Mini 3 Pro this morning by accidently cutting a tree down onto it. Tree got hung up and fell the wrong way. Now I have a great slow motion shot of the tree falling and killing the little guy.

I've been using the internet since the good old modem days from 1996 onwards, when you'd be called a geek, a nerd or a weirdo for saying that you had access to it as though it was some form of taboo subject (oh how times have changed!). What did just hit me is that you are by far my most favourite creator I've watched since RUclips's inception nearly 20 years ago. Passionate, detailed, intricate but with a superb blend of playfulness, perfectionist styles and life inspiration that makes you shine above anything I've ever been subscribed to. The next time I'm in New York from the UK (which at current run-rate is about once every 10 years 😂) I have to buy you a beer, Sir. Thank you for sharing what you love to do.
Absolutely amazing my friend. I needed to hear that this morning. The types of videos I create do not get many clicks so it’s been a bit of a struggle the past 2 years to grow this business. It was a tough decision to figure out my own unique style and stick with it….despite very slow growth. As I start to travel & volunteer in mid 2024 I hope the backdrop of those adventures will help?
