The flow state. The process. It’s the journey, not the destination. Your Boulevard. My 5 motorcycles. Selling my last Harley-Davidson at age 75 seven months ago ended a lifetime journey on 2 wheels. ahh right on! Thank you for letting me know my goofy little tutorials found a home with you. Any specific topic you would like me to cover in an upcoming episode?
It would be helpful to know how you put videos together to make them interesting please? I’m still just videoing as that’s my excitement at the moment. 😂
Thands for the examples on design. Re color your eye and brain will automatically be attracted to any brighter color relative to the intended subject. Example. A yellow window frame next to a subway track is a distraction when your video motion is following the tracks
Again, another great video. Just thought I'd add my 2 cents about the pigeons. I picked this nugget from another drone YTuber, so I can't (and don't want to) claim it - but I had problems with seagulls in Spain - like you, I don't harass them at all, but especially in springtime, they become very aggressive - also eagles in the Dolomites in Italy. The trick is red high reflective tape ( something you might put on a bicycle) - thin strips stuck on top, bottom, left, right and v thin strips on prop arms. It completely solved the problem - the gulls still squawk a bit but keep their distance. PS do you need special permission to fly over & around NY? I always worry in urban spaces.
1000% this. All the bitchin gear in the world doesn't matter if you don't have a compelling shot. Some of the work you've gotten on this simple mini 3 is amazing with your creativity and eye for picking out just the right scene. This is why I keep coming back to this channel, always learning.
You're so right Ted. Good new gear is fun too though. It can open doors. Something as simple as a mount for an action camera for your car, truck, or bike can change perspectives.
Fantastic video, Ted. I really enjoyed the various footage and color grading to get my creative juices going. Also, what a totally different experience of living in the city vs in the woods. Thanks!
@@TedNemeth It's my pleasure. BTW, I have enjoyed learning from your master class. Great job of putting it together for beginners and advanced dronies.

Ted you always have some super cool ideas up your sleeve, totally like it, very creative ... and inspiring ! thanks so much for sharing ! Keep them coming !
Good thoughts on better shots versus better equipment. I see so many people reaching for a better drone instead of improving their cinematic skills. Nice to hear some sanity. Great work.
Fantastic footage Ted. Just ordered my first drone and love the fact that you explain things in such an easily digestible way. Your view on how to simplify and capture such wonderful movies fills me with inspiration. I’m hooked on your approach and enthusiasm. Can’t wait to try some ideas out for myself. Thanks again and keep em coming.
Paul thats amazing news! congrats on your first drone. Welcome to our FLYING CAMERA CREW. I checked out your channel. No content yet. I would LOVE to see what you’re creating. Did your new drone arrive?
Another brilliant video, your vids are the best drone vids on RUclips! I love your statement "value the process"! It is so true. I've been shooting film and printing in a darkroom for 40+ years precisely because I love the process. But now my flying camera has given me a whole new way of seeing things. You da man Ted!
Sensi, Just my 2 cents: Pigeons are an underrated bird just like seagulls and beautiful in slo-mo. I prefer the color shot above the tracks but i like the b&w shot under the tracks. Im keeping my Air 2s and Mini 2 based on your philosophy and am working on my cinematography even though I REALLY want to buy something new. Great class as usual! Domo Arigato
Rick! man you been traveling a lot lately. I’m rarely on Instagram but you pop up in my feed when I do log on. Thanks for sharing. I’m curious…..do you have plans for …like a larger personal project of some shape/form? I think you have my email. Send me a note.
Love your ideas! I get too focused on the technical and sometimes loose sight of what could be really nice shots. Going to change how I think when flying. Also, going to sign up and take your course.
Man you are so lucky to live in NYC. So much to shoot with the drone. I liked the dark colours, b&w is dramatic but the colour adds interest. Like # 508!!!
Love your videos and ideas in your drone shots. I do want to tell you, I lived in NYC until I left for college to Florida, I’m glad I left. NYC is a beautiful place with respect to an artist and photographer’s point of view. So much to view and observed with all the interesting creative graffiti and building structures, both new and old. Give me the beach brother, that has been my zen. Thank you for your outstanding videos, you are able to show NYC at a different and beautiful prospective with drone videography. Continue to keep it real, and Keep it safe.
I like to approach the scenes I shoot in with minimal expectations. Sure, I'll come in with an idea of what I would like, but I'm not married to that outcome. If everything aligns to make that vision happen, great. More often than not an element I have no control over means I'm not going to be able to get what I envisioned. So then I leave it to my years of experience shooting on the ground to find some other way to find something else to make it interesting. I like to think of it as creative problem solving to work within the limitations the situation. Sometimes it's even better than what was expected and sometimes it's just a practice run for the next time. A good example was shortly after I got the drone, I had a trip to Las Vegas and I went through the whole process to get proper permission to fly near the High Roller ferris wheel. Only I realized too late that I didn't ask for enough height clearance. So I'm shooting a cloudless sunset and only enough height clearance to go as high as the middle of the wheel. My creative solution was to get further back and align the setting sun with the center of the wheel. The shot ended up as a finalist in drone photography contest and was selected to appear in the county fair. So a situation I didn't have a lot of hope for still yielded a portfolio photo. I'd love another crack at shooting there but haven't been back yet.

Yes sir, I've been trying to upload stuff to youtube during downtime and I love watching your channel for all the latest drone tips for real bro! So yeah been playing around with the Mini 3 Pro, got part 107 certified, yada yada. Just back from a shoot over some of the waterways here in FL and almost lost the drone trying to land on a sketchy old floating dock. Got to learn to catch this thing out of the air. You got a video for that? @@TedNemeth
As always love your energy Ted, such an important mindset to have and avoid collecting gear. I preferred the colour grade over black and white, totally agree about black and white being the go-to, but that scene just looked so much better with the broader colour range, in my opinion. Keep rocking out these videos man, you give me good laugh every time.
Great video! re: which color grade... depends on the project, right? Stand alone? I really liked both! I could see using the B-W in one project and the color version in a completely different project.
Your videos show just what a drone is meant for. A camera in the sky! Before I lived on LI. I used to travel those "L" trains and subways. Lived in Williamsburg for 14 years as a kid. Myrtle ave was where we shopped. Lived at Rutedge and Marcy ave. Thanks for all these informative videos!!!

Absolutely brilliant video, love it! I’ll be crossing the pond from Europe to NY for holiday and plan to bring my mini3 pro. Am I allowed to fly as a tourist in NYC the way you did? I’d love to!
Ted, started watching your videos and find them enjoyable and informative, so I subscribed. I visit family back in NYC frequently and I thought NYC has a drone ban except for designated parks. Is this correct? Being a long-term NYC resident, I would love to fly my Air 3 when visiting. Any advice?
You’ve been a mentor to me. You convinced me to work on my creative instincts of recording the footage, rather than FIRST purchasing all the ND filters and becoming great at color grading like many of the drone nerds on RUclips have suggested.
ahhh man. best comment ever. I love that. And lucky you….San Diego is stunning. DANG i miss the west coast. I plan on moving back permanently at some point soon.
Any tips on avoiding flying over people? I love hearing that you haven’t had any collisions with the birds! What about bugs? Trees? Any obstacles you have hit? Ever lay the drone down? Just crashed my drone the first time yesterday 😢 loving your videos! 👏
hey buddy. i have no words of wisdom to avoid bird strikes. Some have said reflective red tape helps. I try to avoid birds. When the NYC pigeons see my drone and come over and start circling it…..i just keep the drone stationary until they are far enough away then I go straight down to get away.
Man - I've had an agressive hawk after me, clipped one of my propellers even - and in California in my area we have green parrots that get super agressive also. No pigeons yet!
Ted, living in New York you don't need to build the sets for your cinematography. They are all around. I love that. Nice shots as always. Greetings from the boring Caribbean my friend 😅
Great video as ever amigo. The colour image of the subway spoke more to me than the black & white. Gangster Pigeons are an issue here in London UK too. Is that building Kings Park Psychiatric center by any chance? I was Google Earthing places not long ago (really need to get out more) and saw that structure. I wanted to visit there when i lived in New York many years ago but was told it was patrolled by security as a no go area. Wish id gone with my gut now and snuck in.
@@TedNemeth I coached Tennis back in the 90’s at Flushing and also at camps in Bear Mountain (Lake Tiorati) Camp Leah etc. without doubt the best time of my life. I was in NY for just under 2 years. I absolutely love your video's Ted! I'm trying to learn how to fly and edit my camera with props and GPS and your videos are a great source of help. Not every time can be a great time. Good luck with your next shoot 👍
right on! thank you my friend. I’m finishing one right now that I’m pretty pleased with. I’m excited to share it with you & our gang here. Welcome aboard sire.
I think the pigeon situation is that they may see the drone as a potential predator and fly around it in a flock in order to confuse it. Similar to flocking behaviour seen with murmerations of Starlings, etc. I've had a couple of similar situations, also with smaller gulls.
Incredible content! Always learn a ton. Im in Atl and would love to do this. Do you ever have issues with people being aggressive? Obviously we fly away and as respectful as possible. Thanks for your time
A piece of red reflective tape on top of the drone might work wonders to keep those pigeons away. You shot some awesome footage. My city has a lot of drone Karens and a bylaw prohibiting the launch from city property. There are ways around it of course, but the really good shots are difficult to access. Happy flying and keep up the good work!
Yes I must admit I love black and white as well, but this location was far more suited to the over saturated colour version with all the nitty gritty greens and the graffiti everywhere, a grungy paradise. What are the rules for shooting in a location like that, think the cops would be on me in a heartbeat here in the UK. Would of been cool to get a shot of the train coming strait at the drone, darting up and out of the way at the last moment, that last bit edited out, a close up of the carriages flashing past and the people inside, the wheels turning, people pilling out and add in your tracking shots of the two trains passing and the road one, a nice little group to nit together. Anyway that's my two pennies worth. As you have said in the past a little story a tablo of the area, a flavour.
Excellent perspective as always! Can't wait to see what you come up with around the abandoned mental institution! Looks like it might be a good spot for some FPV!
Thanks for another great post. I always look forward to your new videos. You always give great advice. Thanks for your knowledge. I always "expect" it... lol
Andrew super cool. Congrats on a great bike. Super reliable, comfortable, very inexpensive, easy to ride. My dad owned a C50 for many years and we rode all over together. Be stopped a few years ago because of Alzheimer’s. So I wanted to find the same bike as a real sentimental piece for me. Found a C90 with same color and same year. You’re up in Nova Scotia? Beautiful part of the world for riding and flying! Welcome to our FLYING CAMERA CREW
Thanks for the wonderful insights Ted. I signed up for the masterclass and hope to acquire new skills before September - as I have been asked to do a friend's wedding as the 'guy in the sky'. Any pointers in event shooting would be greatly appreciated! Looking out for the next vid.
John thats amazing! I look forward to working with you. what drone do you have? Congrats on documenting a friends wedding. Pointers? Well I never filmed a wedding before. So i assume it’s outside? The biggest tip I can think of is to keep as far away as possible because you do not want the buzzzzzzzzzzz of a drone to interrupt the service. If you’re filming in 4k you can crop in during editing at least 30% and still have good sharpness. I guess my other tip is to have very slow drone/camera movement. Maybe no movement at all sometimes. Little or no camera movement in a video puts more emphasis on the subject/action in the scene. It gives the viewer time to digest all the details of the scene. Get prop guards if theres trees!!!! Do NOT rely on obstacle avoidance to see branches.
@@TedNemeth Great advice Ted, thank you! I'm taking my Mini 3 pro and my Air 2S in case of high winds. The wedding and party will be outside, in Montenegro (yay!!) so I hope to get some good stuff. Already checking drone laws. Keep 'em coming El Jefe!

@@TedNemeth I coached Tennis back in the 90’s at Flushing and also at camps in Bear Mountain (Lake Tiorati) Camp Leah etc. without doubt the best time of my life. I was in NY for just under 2 years. Lived in Rego Park Queens…. Quite an experience 😊. I go back when I get time as I love the crazy place.
Ted is nailing it! Are you still shooting with th 3pro? The shot are great.
I absolutely love your video's Ted!
I'm trying to learn how to fly and edit my camera with props and GPS and your videos are a great source of help.
Not every time can be a great time.
Good luck with your next shoot 👍
welcome aboard to our FLYING CAMERA CREW. Is there a specific topic you’d like me to cover in an upcoming episode?
Good one Ted. Great Video!
Love the excitement in your video. Definitely a follow.
Lori welcome aboard my flying filmmaker friend.
Another amazing video, keep them coming please
right on! thank you my friend. I’m finishing one right now that I’m pretty pleased with. I’m excited to share it with you & our gang here. Welcome aboard sire.
Great tips for those flying camera videos. And great tips on dealing with real life videography. All the best my friend ❤
thank you buddy. your fog time lapse was pretty rad.
@@TedNemeth thank you very much ❤️ we're sort of lucky here and can get four seasons in just one day 😉👍
I think the pigeon situation is that they may see the drone as a potential predator and fly around it in a flock in order to confuse it. Similar to flocking behaviour seen with murmerations of Starlings, etc. I've had a couple of similar situations, also with smaller gulls.
The greatest template in the world to work from - just unlimited options in NYC.
Pete thank you for the support my friend.
TED,, Good to see you FAMILY!!! Nice video!!!
Incredible content! Always learn a ton.
Im in Atl and would love to do this. Do you ever have issues with people being aggressive? Obviously we fly away and as respectful as possible.
Thanks for your time
Another good one Ted. Watch out for the drone cops who tell you that you sinned flying over cars.
A piece of red reflective tape on top of the drone might work wonders to keep those pigeons away. You shot some awesome footage. My city has a lot of drone Karens and a bylaw prohibiting the launch from city property. There are ways around it of course, but the really good shots are difficult to access. Happy flying and keep up the good work!
will try that. Thanks. I need to check out your Mexico video. Thinking of passing thru at some point.
Thanks Ted. I was a bit reluctant when making the latest one. You'll probably see why, but I think it makes an important point.@@TedNemeth
Well said, Ted. I always learn something new from you. Great video. 👍
thank you Yvonne. (it is Yvonne correct?). And you had a drone issue recently?
I looked up the word ebullient. There was a picture of you, Ted. Nice scoot.
Louie….that’s quite magnanimous of you. I love that word: ebullient. It’s new to me. I’m gunna keep it in my pocket. I bow to your good graces.
Do you need any special permission to fly a drone here? I am from the UK and have done the TRUST stuff.
I am sure this was illegal.
Excellent perspective as always! Can't wait to see what you come up with around the abandoned mental institution! Looks like it might be a good spot for some FPV!
Thanks for another great post. I always look forward to your new videos. You always give great advice. Thanks for your knowledge. I always "expect" it... lol
Richard man I really appreciate that. I will continue to always raise the bar in terms of value provided. Thank you for the support.
I just bought my first motorcycle last Sept and it’s a Boulevard C50.
Curing my GAS with SAS… got it! 😎 I appreciate you and your teaching style so much. And cool bike! Look8ng forward to the next episode. ✌️
Chris i appreciate it ma man.
Great video. Awesome philosophy of cinematography. However, I struggled with you calling trains "subways". Crazy New Yorker lol
Fun video. Do you live where this video is shot? I would so love to come and do some street photography in NYC. Never been there. I live in the sticks lol.
Great video Ted. Always an interesting tutorial 👌👍
