I really hope they don't change the pacing, I love the casual chitter chatter between holo and Lawrence no matter how long it takes, you can't rush perfection
Yes, one scene in the first novel where Lawrence takes off his shirt for the first time and Holo comes over to him to sniff then say, “you stink.” Lawrence takes a swing at her to which she dodges and laughs playfully. That scene never made it to the anime hopeful it does now.
I think I'd like a remake more, it could bring in a larger fandom, and as long as it got the Fruits basket treatment (full adaptation) I'd have no issues.
Spice and Wolf was the first anime I ever watched, and even after all these years I still re watch it, even when I’ve stopped watching all other anime.
Yes. My favorite series in media of all time. This video should've came to my feed sooner but I loved your way of explaining this beautiful yet underrated series.
Yeah boi. The series was incredible, and Holo's voice actress is unparalleled to anyone in the industry. I'm not a romance guy, and absolutely loved this story. Just hearing the intro music gives me chills. I'm no impressionable, neck bearded weeb, that lives vicariously through anime. You won't have to be, to appreciate this series either. Leave all of your presuppositions at the door. I'm a successful, objectively pretty guy, yet consumed this series like some unwed teen mother, watching that Jersey Shore. The eloquence of the story, the character building, wity banter between two people falling in love was just so damn good. This series captures what so many fail to do, the majesty of love. I have zero critiques. You're not required to be some no life to appreciate anime, and this series is the perfect intro for everyone into the medium. I wish everyone could watch this series, and I promise anyone that does, will be absolutely hooked.
Yeah it's just a laid back fantasy romance, with some pretty interesting situations they get into because of their job as traders. I'm more of a suspense/mystery guy than anything else, but sometimes we need something to watch carefree.
after having watched spice and wolf just before the remake this year I can gladly say that I am super happy i binged the original series since it was fucking peak. its most definetly in my top 3 rn of the like 60 animes i have watched
I'm absolutely overjoyed to have just found out there is a remake happening. My favorite anime of all time, and one of the first ones I fell in love with as a young teen. I'm glad I didn't see the announcement 2 years ago, because now I get to just enjoy it when it drops this year
Yessir, it's amazing that it's coming out right now, I got very excited but a bit of the early hype faded for me, can't wait to watch the episode that came out already
Can't believe it's been 2 years since the remake announcement but I am so glad that it's happening. The original is beautiful but flawed. I am praying the new remake follows the original story closely. Though the animation isn't as polished as the original but it's still fitting for the story. Everyone should give this a watch
Good video! Your description of the main pair's interactions was really good, it sounds like a cool dynamic that is handled really maturely. I've definitely been meaning to check this out for some time now, given Spice and Wolf was something people talked about a lot when I got into anime. Also I believe the director or someone on twitter involved with the production confirmed it was a season 3, but I might be wrong.
I'd be more than glad with a season 3, but I'd love to see it get that Fruits Basket full adaptation with great production value, might be too much to ask for tho.
"... she's become no more than a folk tale." WRONG! You mean "she's become a fine piece of folk tail." Edit: *notices thumbnail* My guy... That's a GOOD one. ;)
You mention loving character drive shows and people just talking and you haven't made a Monogatari video? Especially when best girl there is so freaking similar to Holo...
True I haven't yet. I took a pause binging after nekomonogatari and just haven't picked it back up. But I definitely want to talk about it eventually, really good show.
...wait, what. When the hell did a remake/season 3/whatever of this get announced?! O_O APPLES! APPLES ALL AROUND! (Make sure to chew thoroughly, especially if you don't have cheeks!)
I agree with your excellent take on this series. In fact I'd like to show this vid to anyone who asks me on the appeal. In fact Spice and wolfs dynamics highly inspired Realms of Kalizon. Where the demon Slayer Mitchera Zehann Elroy finds the protagonist Yukharri Tassharri who is a mastermind who travels many galaxies and even built her own colony "Tiger's Horizon.". Which is inspired by Holo wanting to return to Yiotsu. Of course Kalizon is more of a sci-fi and deep fantasy series. But The core dynamic between Yukharri and Mitchera is much similar to Holo and Lawrence.
Yeah that's probably something I'd rephrase if I could have. I think the art of the anime makes him look older than he does in the LN art, and because of that I don't think that the look and sound of him in the anime match for me. He is still young though, you are correct.
I agree with your video but I'd like to point out you're a bit unfair to Nagatoro in comparison they two pairs are apples and oranges. First off both people in Nagatoro are younger and more immature and both have their own set of issues specific to their character, Senpai is a Beta Male trying to break his shell, Nagatoro is trying to break him out and then trying to find their boundaries is part of the relationship progression. Plus let's be real, Nagatoro is a gag Manga first and foremost, the cringe of the two stepping on each others toes is part of the joke, and a bit of wistful Nostalgia from when we were all young stupid adolescents mixed with a " step on me fetish" the characters aren't that deep but they don't have to be. Holocaust and Lawrence are both older and more mature so their dynamic is different but I'd argue they still have to find their boundaries, like when Holo was too flippant about Wolf attacks to Lawrence or Lawrence hiding the truth from Holo about her hometown, they both have their own baggage and come from cultures with a different value system, the difference being their conflict with each other isn't played for laughs due to the greater personal stakes, we aren't looking back at dumb kids but dealing with real emotional problems an adult couple has to overcome. There relationship isn't quite as smooth banter as this video would give the impression of. Although I'm sure that wasn't your intention. Point is I wouldn't count Nagatoro as flawed, the two are more immature and the show they are in less ambitious but it does what it sets out to do rather well. And Holo and Lawrence have their own personal conflicts with each other appropriate for their age, situation, and tone of the series.
Hello there once more... I don't disagree with anything you said here really. All I've said of nagatoro was: "and unlike some other shows focused on outwitting one another, it always stays a healthy dynamic" I didn't say it was better, worse, or made any other qualitative evaluation. I just said how it differs, which you yourself agree on in your comment. Portraying a more mature relationship or an immature one doesn't make something better or worse, just different. I agree especially with how you say their tone is very different, hence why I felt the need to mention the difference. Nagatoro is more fast paced, "in your face", gags and silly moments. Spice and Wolf is more so the slow paced dialogue that reads like what you'd expect from a novel. It's more wordy and the "outwitting contest" as I called it, is more so based around use of language and semantics, and less so on trying to embarass the other or get their attention. Point being, I agree.
@@Ayvhel the language you used "unlike some relationships" to me usually indicates a sort of contempt for whatever you're comparing it with. Sorry if that wasn't your intent but that's how I read it.

As someone who has only rewatched the series about 2 months ago I certainly agree with how much you gain from even a rewatch. I was astonished how much of the subtle character interactions and goals I have missed but as I was 15 at my first watch I shouldn't be to suprised in retrospective. But I have to disagree on the part that Jun Fukuyama makes Lawrence seem to young considering that despite his appearence, Lawrence is actually a recently starting merchant in his early 20s and he sounds like just that. Season 3 would probably be the safer bet for a full adaptation and as season 1 and 2 are pretty perfect adaptations I'd be more than happy with that and I'd prefer that over an incomplete or rushed reboot. But a fruits basket like complete readapation from a good studio would be of course even better but that would require around 100 episodes (if it's done with the same care as the original with 6ep per novel) or at the very least around 70 episodes. Considering how niche Spice and Wolf is I am not holding out much hope for that to happen, but hey we got an announcement after 13 years so who knows.
The show is one of those like Oregairu where each rewatch just makes it better, a lot of little details. Well, I do think it grows on me over time whenever I'm watching, but whenever I get back to the series after a while it feels off somehow, as I said, might be a me thing. I definitely would prefer a season three to a remake that goes nowhere, but my ideal scenrario is as you say, getting that Fruits Basket treatment, I'd love to have a new generation of people getting into it, and having the whole thing adapted with a visual upgrade. Either way I am extremely happy with whatever we get.
I think s1 and s2 are enough for the series , especially if you talk about plot. But the main selling point of the show(interaction between Holo and Lawrence). But for me the plot is also important.
