The original anime adaptation changed a lot more aspects from the light novel. This is more a redo, and the reason why they didn't just make another season was they skipped parts of the light novel that were important. So it really wouldn't make sense for them to change things because they already did that.
S&W is nostaglia done right. They took a series that was popular 10 years ago and gave it a second chance, with modern animation techniques. They are staying close to the source material BUT they are keeping the changes that worked in the og anime (Lawrence and Chloe/Yarei's 2nd meeting in ep 1). This is the polar opposite of what Western (i.e. Hollywood) remakes, which try to constantly change and reinterpret old works and remove/gloss over anything that is even remotely controversial.
This episode was the episode that drew me in and made me want to go read the light novel. The currency talk was interesting to me. But, this episode was the first real glimpse of the character dynamic and synergy between Holo and Lawrence.
I think it's more of a testament to the original source material. A damn good story and characters can often stand the test of time in any medium. That being said, we've also seen the complete opposite of the spectrum, but when you can feel the passion of the production team, it's electric.
rosario manga is peak, only issue i have with it is the massive cliffhanger ending and the lack of screen time of his parents, I wanted to see how the parents would react to mc becoming a vampire.
People need to remember that Hunter x Hunter (2011), FMA: Brotherhood, Fruits Basket (2019) are great remakes now adding Spice & Wolf (2024) to the list, but I kind of understand people's fears that Berserk (2016), Shaman King are also remakes but letdowns big time... It all depends on the studio and crew that are involved in the production determine the outcome

It's so odd hearing kevin pekin's compositions with this instrumentation. There was one piece in this episode around 17ish minutes in that reminded me its his music, but also just fits so well

The remake has proven to be surprisingly good. Hell I went into this with the good old nostalgia goggles firmly in place and a non-quite-healthy level of skepticism at first, but so far, putting aside my preference for the old OP and art style, this is proving itself to be a worthy remake, perhaps even better since its presumably sticking to the source material (I'll assume they won't skip an entire novel this time)
Yes Chibi, Kevin Penkin is indeed working on the music of this remake, one of the things that first hinted to me that this was gonna be a good remake back when people were fretting over the trailers when they first dropped
It’s a very faithful adaptation when it comes to everything except the parts the 2008 anime changed from the source material, in a way it’s more faithful to the source material than the beloved 2008 anime. However as great as i think it is i still think the saturation is a bit more than I expected the story should have. The 2008 nailed it in that regard, but everything else is basically perfect and I’m so happy to hear the original voice actors again.
The apple is representative of knowledge. The author uses this symbology to great effect to subtely get across thenfact that holo is a very wise knowledgeable character. Beautiful writing.
Spice and Wolf is my favorite series. the remake to me maintains the core story very well even if there are some slight differences between the OG anime and this one. the core parts and points of the story is still the same.

Everyone said it was an amazing series (tho not complete), so I decided to give it chance. I absolutely loved it! Especially the chemistry between Holo and Lawrence in the English dub. I was worried they'd get new VAs for the English, especially now that it's Crunchyroll and not Funimation doing it. That's exciting to hear!

Similarly the season 2 of spice and wolf rubbed me the wrong way at the time but i didn't think much then just disappointed clearly this anime remake being here shows more people felt the same way.

As I was going to watch this new episode, I saw the first Episode was out in Dub, and curious, I checked it out, and was happy to learn that the original VAs are back.
I agree that this is a good remake. But, honestly speaking, it's so, so similar to the original that I'd prefer them to make a season 3 and just continue the story. Unlike, say, FMA, the original adaptation didn't stray too far from the LNs. At this rate we'll get two good adaptations of the beginning of the story and no adaptations of the latter parts.
And not remade for imaginary "modern audiences". Because no such thing ever existed, we are here from 16 years ago and beyond, and still the same audience.
I've never watched or read it before and while it's nice and all, it's really nothing special yet. But since everyone is raving about it, I'll keep watching.

_Sailor Moon Crystal_ is a good example of a remake done right because it is supposed to follow the manga close. It would have been better to copy the colors from the cel anime since it would have been possible in the digital anime age.

Chloe? She did show up as a cameo in ep1. She was one of the villagers chasing Yarei. Didn't read the novels, so I was confused when Yarei cut the last wheat and she wasn't shown anytime after that.
When people do remakes and say that want to remake it for a modern audience, they actually mean that they want to change everything for _an entirely different_ audience, while simultaniously hating the old audience, and delibereately make things they dislike out of spite. Meanwhile, this series truly is made for today's audience that is simply a good story for everybody.

In the original, it was a story about 2 depresed people with a hard life that they no longer enjoyed.And obviously how they fall for each other over time, in the new one, it feels as if all of that went out of the window, not to mention it looks a lot more like your avrage love anime with mentally challenged characters.😅

I have an honest question. Why do you like this books series so much? We started watching the new series but could not see what it is so good about it. So we then watched the entire original series and found it better than the remake.
My only confusion is wondering why isn't Clowy Lawrence's trade partner within the village. Like the original Anime, it sets up an interesting love and painful betrayal... I'm a dub watcher and, I haven't yet read the novles so I don't know if Clowy played as big of a role in the Novles or if she wasn't as prevent and just a background character.

I'm glad it's a remake, but that's a totally selfish statement because I never watched the original and didn't want to have to go back and watch it first.
I don't think it's that complicated... Sure, the story has to be interesting, but what I love is the interaction between the characters ^^

One thing I find annoying is people keep saying “the original is better, the original is better.” lol just let us newcomers enjoy the show! I’ve never seen the original and I LOVE this one so far!

I have an honest question. Why do you like this books series so much? We started watching the new series but could not see what it is so good about it. So we then watched the entire original series and found it better than the remake.
I think the remake is doing a good job, but personally I prefer the original.

Hopefully s2 becomes better... Spice and Wolf s2 is rather meh.
I am still not sold on it. To me it is good but not great because it has not drawn me in.
My only confusion is wondering why isn't Clowy Lawrence's trade partner within the village. Like the original Anime, it sets up an interesting love and painful betrayal... I'm a dub watcher and, I haven't yet read the novles so I don't know if Clowy played as big of a role in the Novles or if she wasn't as prevent and just a background character.

@@crazy338866 Thank you for the clarification. Although I did enjoy her role in the Original Anime, it's just nice to know she was an added plot point rather than having her role replaced with a male for more historical accuracy. That was my first thought.
