    I love seeing how you teach writing. Could you do another video for how you teach other writing standards such as opinion and narrative writing?

      Thanks for the suggestion!! Writing is my favorite subject to teach so I’d love to make a video about it. Once we really jump into our first writing unit I’ll make a video for that 😊

    I actually got a new student yesterday. Without warning of course. I spent the majority of the day getting the students supplies ready, because we’re still using individual supplies. I had to take pictures of the student and label their things because I’m Prek and not all of them can read their names yet. We also have to have their picture on the attendance chart we use on their center stick we use etc. So all day I just felt like I couldn’t concentrate on anything because everything I had on the lesson plan for us to do this child didn’t have the material to do it with.

    On Tuesday I am going to start letting my line leader lead our morning meeting, where they will do the calendar and pick our days of the week song, number song, alphabet song, finish the pattern and the color song. They love doing this. Since we are a military base, the our students are so use to students coming and going all year long. Would love to see a full day in my life video.

    16 students is AMAZING! I have 22 and it just seems like so many and school has not even started yet!
    One thing I noticed is that you often say "my low kids" "my high kids".
    Once in a PD we discussed the language that we use to group students and it was recommended that we use more positive language including "students who need more support/scaffolding group" "students who need less support/enrichment group", even though the students never actually hear us say any of this, the language we use to describe them has an impact on our teaching and view of our students.
    Just food for thought!

      @GoldenStateEducate  2 года назад +3

      Hey there, thanks for your comment!! I totally agree. I noticed in this vlog since I was talking about group a lot and in depth I ended up just using the “easiest language” of low and high however I agree that’s not the best terms!
      When talking to students I don’t use terms like low and high and I should have been more conscious of it in the video. Less of a mouthful when explaining activities but thanks for bringing this up, it’s so important! 💛

    How do you maintain culturally responsive pedagogy when teaching social studies?

    • @GoldenStateEducate
      @GoldenStateEducate  2 года назад

      This is a great point! As a new teacher I try to find a balance of culturally responsive without being too controversial in the classroom. I wouldn’t want to expose my young students to anything that would be considered inappropriate. Luckily I’ve found that most of our second grade curriculum is culturally relative!
