I love playing the game Guess that Celebrity.
Growing up I watched a TON of movies/TV Shows and I have a plethora of pop culture references in my head.
I don't always get it right, but I did a pretty damn good job in this movie.
That Dan Aykroyd pull was nothing short of amazing lol.
It took me a minute but I finally recognized Amrish Puri from each the Indian film Koyla as a child!
    Hope you enjoy this reaction~

Dan Ackroyd's cameo was part of a deal he made with Steven Spielberg. Spielberg had a small role near the end of Ackroyd's film The Blues Brothers and in exchange Ackroyd appeared here in Spielberg's Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.
Incidentally all three of our heroes were named for pets. Indiana was the name of George Lucas' dog, Willie was the name of Spielberg's dog, and Short Round was the name of the dog of script writers Willard Huyck and Gloria Katz. After the production, Willie's actress, Kate Capshaw, would end up with a different name: Mrs. Steven Spielberg.

The pulling of the heart scene comes from a video game called Mortal Combat when it is used in Dumb and Dumber... I think they just made it up because of the dark theme of The Temple of Doom.. However the The Real Life Version: The Sankara Stones are based on the sivalinga, the symbol of the Hindu God Shiva. So all Indianan Jones movies base stuff off possible real life artifacts or mythology mysterious legends that may or may not be true.

This movie, and Gremlins were the reason PG13 was created in the 80's. Poltergeist started people thinking about it but those 2 made it happen almost immediately after they came out and parents went ballistic.

Bravo!!! Whenever I see people discovering Indy for the first time, I like to tell them trivia that isn't maybe as widely known -
Harrison threw his back out doing his stunt with the Thuggee who attacks him in his room - he was out of commission for 2 months(?), something like that. His first scene back was, ironically, his intro in the movie, when he sits down with Lao Che; for me, this always explained the look on his face, his demeanor, etc.
Herbert Johnson Hatters and Wested Leather in London still make Indy's gear and thankfully sell to the public, and each of the movies has their own hat and jacket, which is fun.

This movie is the most fun of the three originals and the one where you see the most fully realised version of Indiana Jones in action. The movie itself is like one huge non-stop ride. The first movie is the most grown-up and most like a 1930s / 40s action adventure movie while the third movie has the best ending, one of the most emotional you’ll ever see in a big budget action movie. The music during the final scenes is extraordinarily moving. The master John Williams excelled himself yet again there.

There's a nice story behind Ke Huy Quan's casting in this movie. He actually accompanied his brother to an open casting call (Ke himself never intended to audition). At the casting call, Ke was instructing his brother on what to do to make an impression on the casting director. But it was Ke's enthusiasm and personality that ultimately caught the eye of the casting director. Ke was asked to audition and ended up getting the role. p.s. Ke also appears in The Goonies from 1985, which was his second film role.

Fun fact about Temple of Doom. It was the first movie in history to get the PG-13 rating. When Spielberg sent it to the MPA for rating they wanted to rate it R, but Steven argued that there was no nudity and Indiana only cusses once, so it wasn't bad enough to be R. But the MPA was like "You have human sacrifice, children being beaten and used as slave labor, and people being crushed by a rock crusher and eaten alive by alligators. Its a little too much to be just PG." So they worked out a compromise and said that kids under the age of 13 shouldn't watch this without parents present.

I love Temple of Doom. Indy actually makes a difference by returning the stones and saving the children. Opposed to Lost Ark, where all his hard work ends up locked in a warehouse 😐
I think, upon rewatch of Lost Ark, you will see that Marion actually doesn't accomplish much aside from getting captured (3 times 😬). Willie is very much a similar damsel, but turned to 11 for (attempted) comedy.
Ke Huy Quan as Short Round steals the movie for me. Every scene he's in is a delight, and he's just the best sidekick ever. I am so excited that he has returned to acting and I'll watch whatever projects he does next.
My personal headcanon is that Indy arrives in India as an avatar of Shiva. There's a lot of little notes (falling from the sky, etc), but mainly - his invocation of Shiva causes the stones to burst into flames, burning Mola Ram (who is not actually worshipping Kali, but that's a whole other headcanon) but they don't burn Indy.

Man are you a delusional misogynist, Marion doesn't do much oh you must be talking about the fictional Marion that you rewrote in your brain, because Marion ravenwood did everything drink, shooting killed Nazis and save Indiana Jones's life a million times in the movie or Indiana Jones would have been killed the minute he stepped into Marion's bar. oh and let's not forget she also knocked out the pilot that was going to shoot and kill Indiana Jones in the plane okay except for saving Indiana Jones's life a million times the hero of the movie and franchise oh no she did nothing. yeah right Indiana Jones did nothing and I think the big bang theory covered that fact haha oh yes in Indiana Jones got captured in raiders , the Temple of Doom and last crusade and had to be saved by Marion ravenwood, a 9-year-old Short round, and his father including when he got captured in every movie more evidence that Indiana Jones didn't do nothing I don't think the big bang theory needed to state that I think the for Indiana Jones movies proved Indiana Jones was useless I guess that's why Marion Ravenwood intimidate someone like you so much because she was a badass that did everything Indiana Jones never did but continue to keep talking your Fanboy fiction.

On your recommendation, I'm going to see _Everything Everywhere All At Once_ this weekend, Imon. It's been a while since I've watched a movie with my shoes on but this one seems to have eclipsed the usual hype.
As for _Temple of Doom_ I can't argue with anything you said. In hindsight it seems like a bad idea for George Lucas to insist this take place before _Raiders of the Lost Ark_ and not include Marion Ravenwood. The sequel was a victim of the original's success in that regard, but it's still my favorite Indiana Jones movie, even though the first one is the better film.

They did something similar in Raiders of the Lost Ark. If you look close in the buried chamber they retrieve the Ark from, one of the pillars Egyptian hieroglyphs is actually R2-D2 and C-3PO. Though for that one you'd need to brighten and slow down the frame a little.

@@exhistoriascientia Yet, it's a sequel in disguise. Jones never encountered anything magical prior to Raiders, hence the magic and hocus pocus line. He was also about making money in Raiders. In Temple, Jones fights better, he's stronger and still treasure hunts for riches...until the ending. Last Crusade picks up beautifully with a heroic, belongs in a museum Jones. But it was the ending of Temple that transformed him.
Blame Lucas. A simple 1937 edit would fix all confusion.

9:22 I don’t think that what you said was quite what you meant. Both culturally and geographically.

40:54 oh don't worry. She was almost universally hated. 😂 Nobody likes Franny. Although I have seen a bit of a change in people lately saying that she just has a Brat personality or something like that. But still. 😂

It would’ve been FAR BETTER story if Short Round would’ve been with Indy in the recent Indiana Jones movie. Or even his son, Mutt Williams. Dial of Destiny was a betrayal to the fans & the character.

Lucas and Spielberg were going through divorces when they wrote this so they were both in a darker headspace which explains the tone. Kate Capshaw was as annoyed with her character as you were, but something good came from her role in the movie. She and Spielberg hit it off and got married! Lastly, this movie helped bring about the PG-13 rating. Prior to this movies went from PG to R with nothing in between. Parents were so upset with the portrayal of human sacrifice in this PG kid-friendly film that the MPAA officially created PG-13 after this movie came out for future movies that are more intense than PG but not quite R.

Iirc, this film was responsible for the PG 13 rating. Mainly due to the Food Scene.

Why is Willy so annoying for eweryone?
After all, she's just a comic character, for fun.
In addition, she saved the lives of Indy and Shorty at least twice.
But there is no and cannot be chemistry between her and Indy, I agree here.

Besides Crazy Rich Asians, I recommend The Joy Luck Club and Memoirs of a Geisha for good predominantly Asian cast movies.

People rag on the dinner scene for being xenophobic shock value. But I always thought it was a great way to show how cruel and decadent things had gotten in the palace. (Those are cow eyeballs! In India!) Especially contrasted with the simple food the villagers had
