PICNIC TABLE. how to build

  • We have needed a picnic table for several years but I just haven't taken the time to build one. This was a fairly cheap table to build even with todays lumber prices that the whole family can enjoy.
I made this table a little taller than most plans call for but that's the beauty of DIY. All the angles were cut on 22.5 degrees with the exception of the braces underneath which are cut on 45 degrees. The table has a length of 96 inches and a width of 60 inches.

    About Me.
In 2018 I decided to stop working for someone else full time and pursue my dream of building my log home and starting a small farm in the Ozark mountains. It's a dream that I have had and have been working towards for over 20 years, and due to life changes and unexpected events, I decided to make a leap of faith. This journey will not be without its challenges and setbacks, but I will continue to push forward each and every day to make this dream a reality. I try to upload videos 3 days a week but working mostly alone I am always pressed for time.

Good morning Stephen. I love the way you think, if you're gonna build a table, build it big enough for an elephant to dance on, then double it !! LOL You might think about pads on the end of those legs, so they don't stab down into the dirt.

The table looks like it will seat 10. Not bad for an ole Whitehouse/Troup boy. I've been following you on the house build and knew you said you were from Texas. I just didn't know how close. I live outside of Longview, Tx. near the Gregg County Airport. My kids went to Kilgore schools because I live just over the borderline in Rusk County. I am a country boy like you. I am retired but keep up with the building trade. That is why I like your videos.

Nice job looks great and very solid.the girls did a great job helping dad.
Had to snicker alittle when yall went to pick it up and move it .
I dont think they realised how heavy it was.but they handled it just fine.
Looks nice sitting in front of the cabin to.
Yes the hoats seem to be alittle impatient and upset with you when you finally got to feed them.
When will you get back to chinking the rest if the cabin?
Thanks for including us on the table build.

Bought a 4x4 treated post recently for a bird feeder post and that thing twisted within the first couple weeks. I have a feeling whatever drying process they use at the lumber mill had been rushed.

I never buy lumber from the big box stores, only lumber yards. Big box stores tend to have wood that is under sized , green, or wet, and crooked.

Hey partner you may like to put a piece of wood on the underside of the bench so if two different size people sit on there it wont pitch the back of there leg when one person gets up I used two pieces of 2x4 and put two on ecach side splitting the difference it keeps it from warping two Good luck

Thanks for the tip on using the tap drill bit, the amount of times I messed up using either the wrong size forstner bit or drilling the hole before drilling with the forstner bit - do all the tap drill bits have that center on the back?
