I wasn’t crazy about them until I learned about roasting them. They’re really good that way.

I love Brussels and couldn't imagine Christmas without them so it was very interesting to see how they grow and how they are harvested!!

They are really good with bacon, onions, and garlic fried or roasted until brown and tender. They are so awesome like that, or you can try a cheese sauce on steamed or roasted ones. I am growing them in my garden for the second year in a row. I will be leaving them in the garden for much longer this year same with my patatos and onions.

I love brussel sprouts. Tried to grow some here in TX, but then we got the big freeze. Only one plant survive, and I see little sprouts on it.

Try steaming your Brussels until they just start to get soft in the middle....then use a set of tongs and cut them in half , top to bottom. Brush the cut face with oil and add garlic and seasoning ... brown the faces in your favorite fry pan. You can sprinkle on some parmesan cheese if you'd like, too)

Via Alton Brown: prep sprouts as you did in video; toss halved sprouts in hot sauté pan, add salt and approx one cup water. Cover and cook for 5 minutes (time it). Remove and they are ready. Delicious.

Still loved in America our family has always said for both cabbage and Brussels sprouts if they smell a bit like farts while cooking they are going to be good. In my opinion In both cases just salt pepper and plain butter Although for cabbage we will add some Libby's corned beef and 1 whole finely chopped onion and slow cook for several hours. then Finally serve with corn bread. In the case of Brussels sprouts grandma taught me to only use enough water to come about 3/4 of the way up the bulbs adding butter/salt/pepper to taste. You then start the boil like an egg cold & all in stirring often to circulate for even cooking and coating of the seasoning. Do that till the leaves take on a bright Kelly green and just soft enough to split with the side of a fork with no crunch (if the green turns duller then they have been on too long).
Corned beef and cabbage is on the cold day list of good hearty foods, while we tend to have Brussels sprouts for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I support every one taking on the tradition of Thanksgiving with or with out religious connotations. If every one world wide took one day to feast with their loved ones, and be thankful for what they have regardless of how much or how little the world would be a significantly better place.

    • @bumpty9830

They're closely related. A cabbage is one big flower growing on the top of a similar plant.

Matthew, a cabbage is not a flower. It is a bunch of leaves of a plant that actually does flower. Broccoli is a flower head.

Getting smaller ones is better than the larger ones as the smaller ones are a bit sweeter. I prefer to steam them just to tender. Then I slice them in half, coat them with a bit of butter, and sprinkle with Old Bay seasoning. Yum!
