Garlic is so easy to grow. We grow our entire year's supply every year in our garden. We live in Ithaca, NY (north-east US, zone 6 roughly). We plant 10 to 30 stalks each year. We harvest the scapes to make pesto in the summer, and the bulbs each autumn. ♥
I'm a garlic lover and surprised by the nine months it takes to grow. Hopefully you'll have more of an appreciation for it next time you enjoy it in your meals.

Nicole! The world would be a sadder place without garlic. When I have breakfast in the morning, I have one large garlic clove ( we have BIG garlic's in Cape Town), and one chili - raw. With orange. After cereal and coffee. Never have flu. No colds. I celebrated 70 years on 1 Jan 2022. Never been sick a day in my life.
This is a great show. Great filming and the presentation by the host is really nice and feels personal. Not the distant documentary like !

i grow my own garlic, hardnecks, and elephant garlic, in the Netherlands, outside, the purple ones from France are hardy. Only problem we have is rust on the leaves, I plant them close to my carrots and onions so the smell deters the carrot fly...but not mice :-(

i am not from the US, but if you actually listen to the documentary (and not skipping parts) the owner of the farm already told you that they grow softneck garlic meaning the leaves are not edible, where i come from aka south east asia we grow hardneck, meaning the leaves are edible
Mlle Gisella shhhhh let them feel smart no need to correct them then they get into defensive mode usually they will just scadoodle out of here but sometimes they fight back. remember these "things" only have 2 brain cells, but they're not used. usually all you have to do is stare at them not say anything and then after a 2 min stare you say "why, why are you so stupid" We are going to have to stop here but let them keep wondering and well be back on the next episode of Finding Stupid in RUclips

I don't think these leaves are edible. It should be the small one. However, this big one, the core is edible. Girls, boil, or stir fry. So good.
I grow garlic. She left out the fact that you plant garlic in the fall or early winter. You harvest it in the early summer. It grows through the winter and spring. I cure my garlic by tying a dozen or so heads together and hanging them upside down in my garage for a few weeks. You can braid softneck garlic into beautiful strand that you can hang up in the kitchen and cut off a head any time you need one. I grow maybe 100 or so heads of garlic each winter. I grow a type called 'silver skin'. The guy in the video is growing what looks to me to be 'artichoke' garlic.

I did the same thing when I didn't have the money to go to a dentist for a infected tooth. It kept it under control until I could save enough money to get the tooth pulled.
its also magic if you have herpes. if you feel the first itching when there is no blister visible, you press a fresch slice garlic on it. most of the time its stopped and no blister will grow. works for me since 3 years. I get herpes on lip each time I have a cold.

frustrating nuh, that we don't have locally grown blueberries, cranberries... we do have strawberries but are seasonal.
Not to offend you Filipinos, why so many herbs ain't grown in your country what is the problem with you guys. No spices, no herbs, no yoghurt, on the other hand, all imports are extremely expensive. Do you guys know how to price or just cheat the consumers? I was in india, the price for fresh coriander leave is 10 piso, in the Philippines its 120 piso. This just one example, India is a million times cheaper. Onions, potatoes, garlic,ginger etc etc the Indians spices are very expensive. I feel the Philippines cheats its the consumers. I use a lot of Indian spices I love their spices and herbs. Whenever I'm travelling to any country I carry my Indian spices, for I can never eat food without these amazing spices. My Indian friends will courier to me, homemade spices. All natural. In the philippines you don't get all the required indian spices. The ones you get are not pure. I wonder why is the Philippines so lay back and not progressung. They can do so much to bring their country out of poverty. All outsiders doing business in the Philippines. Filipinos men are very lazy, their woman works for them. What a shame.

The video mentioned that garlic goes through a curing process. I wonder are all garlic sold in supermarkets cured this way?

I am Montagnard live in North Carolina I grind garlic with chili all the time dip with smoke fish , vegetables so tasty.
I fry smashed garlic in the oil first whenever I cook any dish, be it vege or meat. Heating garlic in microwave oven or baking it on fire is also delicious.
I do the same thing except add onions too

Had a crazy throat infection once, medicine did nothing. My uncle told me to eat 3 raw cloves of garlic and a shot of lime juice. Woke up the next day with zero throat pain. Been a big believer since then

Just a tip. To beat the ungodly burn of raw garlic, try eating it with a handful of cheese as well. It'll help lessen the burn and make it much easier to eat

Uh that's kinda what I said. The article states 1 species, 2 sub-species, 10 types and each type has many varieties/cultivars. Indeed more than 10 varieties of garlic. That didn't even cover Elephant garlic, which is another species if I'm not mistaken. However without dna testing or extensive horticultural knowledge I probably couldn't tell the different varieties apart.
There's hundreds and hundreds of cultivars. I grow garlic, I should know.

if you're ever in Cali and get a chance, drive through gilroy with the windows down... the whole place smells amazing!!! there are also little stands along the highway system (state route, not freeway) where you can buy fresh and they sell little meals which are garlic based... that was some great eating!!!

Garlic is over rated as a medicinal herb but its delicious season and always will. Modern medine should be strict proven medical attention; traditional medicine should not even be touched in medical school.
woloabel garlic is anti fungal anti bacterial has shown that it can slow growths of tumors it has so much greatness Thats just scratching the surfaces. Why is medicine only pills to you?
I think you'll find that a good portion of "modern medicine" is derived from plants, or at least it was at one point, then became chemically made in labs. Just look at Opoids, all from the poppy plant.

I put raw garlic in my potato salad. It's delicious. I swear by this, it's delicious. My last garlic bulbs actually came from Spain. It's absolutely delicious. Garlic is my favorite vegetable.
I had a friend in Gilroy when I was growing up. Both of his parents, one set of grandparents, and a lot of his cousins, aunts, and uncles -- from both sides -- worked on a garlic farm. Their homes and cars all smelled of garlic. Part of the town did too. I remember every visit... mainly because of the garlic. I get scent-flashbacks all the time.
Garlic can grow in your kitchen. It grew in mine. I left two full garlic on my kitchen for a month and green stems popped out of them. I threw them in water and roots quickly appeared. They are now in my yard and growing.
Plant yourself some hard neck in your flower bed mid September. Take a few leaves during the winter to add to your salads or stir fry. Then the real treat in spring when the bloom stem rises! They need to be cut or the bulbs will be small but they taste equally as good as the bulbs themselves, eaten fresh or cooked!

I pan fry few garlic cloves with some ghee (clarified butter) and it tastes heaven.. and it's also good for health.
