  • I find these different types of helmet nets very interesting! These British style helmet nets were very common among US soldiers during WWII, so I’m happy to have one in my collection!

I think I commented this on your vid about accuracy on the bayonet length in band of brothers, I have an m1 bayonet dated 1942 by u.c (unison cutlery I believe) and I measured it at about 9.6 inch blade with the blood channel/groove going all the way to the end so I'm lead to believe it's a converted bayonet. However my one is shiny with a sort of mirror finish and was just wondering why it's shiny as opposed to dark in colour/blued colour?,
      Cheers dude

@@gandalfthegayridestoisenga4870 I’ve seen those shiny ones before, and I’m not positive why they’re like they. I think they may have been reserved for parade and ceremonial use, but I’m not 100% sure. Either way, that’s an awesome item to own!

Until recently, I thought the m1 helmet was a single piece helmet that was made of metal. I bought a m1 helmet looking thing thinking it was the metal one but the inside looked like it was made of something else. I was told that the store that I bought it off of was a military surplus store, and so I believed that m1 helmets were made of something else than metal. Fast forward to about a month ago when I saw one of your videos including both the inner and outer layers of the helmet. Then I realized that I had the inner layer, meaning I only had to find an outer layer. If it wasn’t for your videos I never would’ve found out. Thank you

  • @perry8518

Interestingly, the British army is still big on scrimming helmets, often by the use of a small-apertured net underneath. We refer to them as scrim scarves and attach lengths of torn MTP material, Hessian or other mediums onto it. There are scrim loops on the Virtus cover, but they are irregular and leave large gaps in the foliage or scrim.
Funnily enough, the aesthetic of using the net without anything attached to it is reserved exclusively for use by personnel that have done the P-Coy Parachute Course or those attached to Para units. It's not in the regulations, but sort of a gentleman's agreement among our troops, and Paras get quite upset when others use the net-only look.
