Eli did all the background and lighting for this in a studio with a vr screen. It's not just his singing that is leveling up
"Dude, do you hear Geoff back there?" ... Exactly. This is evidence that he's not human.
Miracle of Sound posted on VP's channel and gave them 10 ale horns out of 10 for the most creative cover they have seen.
10 RAISED ale horns out of 10
One more thing about Valhalla: it's not just fighting for eternity for no reason. It's training so they can face the giants when the world ends.
Yes I forgot to mention Ragnarok
When Fenris breaks his chains and Ragnarok will destroy Asgard and the gods will fall. If you die with sword in hand, the Valkryies come for you and you go to Valhalla feasting hall. Yep, I studied Norse religion when I was younger. :D
Just checking
Valhalla is Viking heaven right?
@@Fazman009 Yes, Valhalla is were those who have died in battle or with sword in hand go when their time comes.
Note to Geoff: Heimdahl called. He wants his Gjallarhorn back. ☄️
I love that they have J starting out separately, staring out across the water in this. He’s been away and now he’s coming back home.
A lot of the costuming and makeup is from My Mother Told Me when J was a regular member. Among their tattoos are runes spelling out VoicePlay.
I am not generally a fan of rap, but the lyrics fit so well (even with some references to him currently serving in the military). J was going so fast that even with closed captioning I had to rewind!
Glad someone else noticed the runes!
All the weird noises are Layne. Every time I watch this, I have to remind myself that J didn't actually crash through a big ol' creaky wodden door that slammed shut after him. That was Layne, too. Layne is usually multi tracked to get all the percussion in.
Great reaction, guys!!
Geoff dropped Man of Constant Sorrow, just so ya know.....
That door click is so legit sounding I finally place Layne on same level as Adam Rupp now.
What they said 👆
No one expects the Valhalla Calls rap!
Good rule of thumb for VoicePlay videos: If you hear a noise that you can't identify, chances are it's Layne making it!
Some corrections - Valhalla is the place for warriors who die in battle, and they fight every day, in preparedness for Ragnarok where they are fighting on the side of the gods. They don't fight for "all eternity". People who died by other means, went to Hel, and would be part of Hel's troops, fighting on the side of the giants (Jætter)
First reactors that talked about assassins creed and Valhalla mythology as context.
Voiceplay for sure does the best video game covers of anyone. Frankly a smart gaming system producer should just hire them to do their game song already.
Great reaction fellas! Geoff’s B0 at the beginning was held for 15 seconds. This one had everything. Glad you enjoyed it. They just keep upping their game. Can’t wait for the next one.
Minor clarification: Valhalla is not a separate place from Asgard. It is the name given to Odin's halls, located within Asgard, and it is where everyone, warriors and gods alike, gather to feast after their day of fighting and training, preparing for the coming of Ragnarok.
You're Not Ready Guys ! *chuckle Geoff that was a sustained B0 he said he spent 2 hrs working it and felt like his throat was destroyed *chuckle as easy as he makes it sound He WORKS for it to be as good as he can humanly get it ! #RespectThat
yeahhhhhhh... cover story (lol) Geoff is an ALIEN and his "practice" is to confuse humans... 😁
The fact that Geoff hit TWO B-0’s is so impressive it’s mind blowing
And held them for so long! Damn! ❤
3* 2 of them were sustained
3 B0, the first one is 15 seconds long!
In his solo verse, Eli was going between a B4 and D5, no falsetto. And at the end, in the last chord, he hits an F5!
That's a B0 Geoff does, and holds for 15 seconds the first time, later on he does it for 10 seconds. I think someone said Eli goes up to a B5. Quite right about Valhalla. Clearly fighting is their idea of heaven. Quite right about viking too. The people were not all going viking , many were traders, all over Europe. Incidentally the runes on Cesar'sface say VoicePlay. :) All the odd sounds have to be Layne. Miracle of Sound who wrote and performed this song originally gave this version 10 out of 10. High praise indeed.
Re: runes
Cool! 🤘👍
Love the terminology lesson Chris.. Seriously, my minor was in Greek & Roman culture. I've been obsessed with ancient Egypt, so that pantheon speaks to me as well. Norse is one of the ones that I know the least about. Loved this reaction. ❤️
13:55 It actually makes sense that they included a rap since the vikings invented battle rapping 😅
I just wanna say there are 2 things I appreciate about your reaction video to this song over all the others I've seen. 1) the viking knowledge drop and 2) if it weren't for the commentary and pauses, I can't tell I'm not listening to VoicePlay's video. You guys have the crispest audio playthrough of any reaction video I have seen.
Oh wow, thanks, Daniel, we appreciate that!
We use OBS studio to capture our screen, and then we edit it with Wondershare Filmora, but we don’t change anything in the audio setting or anything. As far as I know, everything’s just set at the normal volumes and such. But hey, we’ll take it! 😂 cheers from Wyoming!
Great reaction. Remember that Freya gets the first pick of the fallen in battle. So 1/2 go to Vanir and 1/2 go to Valhalla. Those who do not die in battle go to Hel which is more like normal life before they died. Fun stuff. Great music from Voice Play.
I will need to correct the terms you are right about half and half going to Odin and freyja but it's not called vanir that is a clan of the gods vanaheim is the world they will be in but the feast hall for freyja is called volkvangr where Odin's is Valhalla in Asgard
@@thomasdavis5675 You're partly right- Vanaheim is one of the Nine Realms on Yggdrasil (the World Tree), and the Vanir are its people. A few gods come from there, but not all Vanir are gods. The other realms are Asgard (realm of the gods), Midgard (realm of mortals), Jotunheim (realm of the ice giants, or Jotunn), Muspelheim (realm of fire giants), Alfheim (land of the light elves), Svartalfheim (realm of the Dark Elves), Niflheim, and Hel.
(Yes, I'm a ginormous nerd who used to RP Norse gods.)
@@Roguefem76 I understand as was I except in actuality the ice giants was part of the MCU not actual mythology the residents were just Jotun and beyond popular perception giant is not really a term for them though they were know to change their statues but you forgot to mention the realm of dwarves which is technically off from svartalfheim and Niflheim and muspelheim were the primordial worlds if I remember correctly freyr was said to play a balance between the two extremes but I can't remember that and another thing that the MCU really messed up deals with Loki as you should know he was closer in age to Odin than Thor and that hel was his daughter and both his sister
@@Roguefem76 also as you should know the vanir was a race of gods subordinate to the aesir a race of warlike gods so the vanir were all gods and Asgard was the home of the aesir the vanir did not reside there
@@thomasdavis5675 Bro, you're the one taking all your info from the MCU. Jotunheim WAS one of the original Nine Realms, and the Vanir were NOT all gods. Do some research from actual Norse sites, Jotunheim is _literally mentioned in the Prose Eddas._
Yikes, bro.
And for your information, I DO know that Loki was Odin's blood-brother, not adopted son, and Hel was Loki's daughter by Angrboda, NOT sister. Also he was from Muspelheim, not Jotunheim, which was why his hair was red, not black.
This is by far my favourite VP cover to date!
Loved this video, guys. Thanks to Chris for the history and context!!! Very cool inclusion.
Chris, love that you added about folkvangr, as so many people think there is only Valhalla or Helheim
11:20 - ditto!
Chris gets it, Valhalla wasn't really a purgatory as much as the ultimate reward for warriors. It's also sort of a bootcamp as all the Valhalla dwellers were meant to stand with Thor when Ragnarök began.
I love VP enough as it is, but this one is just beyond anything they've done so far. Awesome reaction you guys, thanks!
I was soooooooooooooooooooooo looking forward to y'all's reaction to this!
I have become accustomed to looking forward to your reactions to each new VoicePlay video (and watching some non-VoicePlay as time permits ). Aside from your enthusiasm, I enjoy the extra tangents you go off on. The ‘Viking lecture’ today was particularly informative and I enjoyed learning more about the culture.
Part of their makeup this time was ‘VoicePlay’ in runes. And in their merch they’ve added a design with runes for all their names and VoicePlay.
Great reaction. Don’t forget that the valkyries were the ones that took the dead from the battlefield. I love Norse mythology.
You are not ready.
They all seem to be constantly pushing themselves and each other higher and higher. They just keep raising that bar and we've all definitely noticed! Great reaction, guys. And I really enjoyed learning more about Valhalla. Some of those details I'd certainly never heard before. ❤
Geoff dropping the thunder with two sustained b0s for 10-15 seconds each
I know how good they are, and this one still stuns me.
That's a B0 that Geoff hits, and he holds that note for 4 measures! Wow! Glad you heard that note from Geoff! He stays in the basement for the whole song! His eighth and sixteen notes are awesome ! Voiceplay blows every other acapella group away! The best!
I can't get enough of Voiceplay, it's so unbelievably good, it stays in my head all day 💝💝🤩👍👍👍
💋
Geoffs B0 sounds awesome here, all three times. A great rendition though.
Thank you for another great reaction to Voice Play. Geoff said while waiting for J. None he was backstage wrecking his voice to hit those low notes.
This is so very awesome! The costumes and the production are insane! Voice Play does it yet again! Love your reactions!
So impressive that Geoff hit B0 but he held it for 15 seconds. The group did a phenomenal job, Geoff with his bass and wonderful voice, Eli with his Rock king vocals, Caesar with his grit, Layne with his beatboxing, singing and arrangement and J. None with his beautiful vocals and rapping (what?)
Way to go Chris! Nice to see someone talking about all this who actually has a clue! I've been having so much fun, giggling while watching reactors getting their faces melted off. I knew I'd have to wait a while for y'all to drop this one, but thanks so much for jumping on it this fast!
I have no idea how many times I've watched/listened to this since it dropped & I still get chills every time. How do they Keep Getting Better?!? You guys not only put out a fun reaction, but I almost slays learn something from you. (Some of the Norse mythos this time.) Great reaction again, so thanks! Hugs from Texas! ❤💜💙
Thanks for your reaction guys
Layne doing the crazy noise. I think you need to be crazy (in good way) for doing beatboxing 😂😂😂
Eli doing the background. He s become better and better in this domaine. Of course he killing the high note
And geoff bass is also crazy good 😊
Valhalla is basically battle heaven. its an eternal battlefield where those who chose battle in life, get to continue their battle forever
Anytime you can't figure out a sound, it's probably Layne. lol This was such an amazing cover, I loved the original, loved the addition of Peyton Parrish and now love this! I'm really hoping there is a part 3 to this Viking saga!
Probably Layne doing the sound effects that’s who he is! ❤🏴
I can't help it. I had to come back to watch y'all's reaction (which was awesome) and the video again. It's one of my favorites of theirs.
We appreciate that, thank you!! 🙏🏼
@@307Reacts Also, PTX's "Bohemian Rhapsody". Like Matt, I was like "WHERE THE HELL ARE THE DRUMS ???" :P
In case you haven't reacted to it yet, J None also rapped in their cover of "Superstition"..Same guy wrote both sets of rap lyrics for them. His name is Alfredo Austin and he is apparently part of 'Straight, No Chaser'. Unfortunately, I've not yet had much time to follow him/them to learn more about him. But both raps were very well written. This one inspiring and the one in "Superstition" was very clever.
Lets, DO THIS. Some really cool sections wow
My favorite Voiceplay cover. I listen to it over and over and over.
Loved your reaction as usual, guys. Thank you for the lecture about Norse mythology, I appreciate. 🙂
Yep, these guys keep improving on EVERY aspect and pushing themselves further at every new song. Can't even THINK of what they'll pull off their hats at the end of the year. 😁
You may have noticed that their costumes and makeups are the same they wore in "My Mother Told Me", you may remember your hashtag #FoghornGeoff 😉. At that time J None was a regular full time member of VP, and they featured José Rosario Jr. This time there's Cesar wearing the same hooded cloak José was wearing back then, and they feature J None as a guest... Although for many of us he never REALLY "left", he's just in pause, but he's still righteously a Voiceplay member. 🙂
ALL the video was filmed at Vü Studios in Orlando, Eli created all the scene they were filmed against in Unreal Engine and they weren't in front of a green screen but of a FULL WALL LED screen where all the scenes Eli created in Unreal Engine were "projected".
That rumbling, devastatingly low note Geoff sings almost at the beginning, starting when J None is "alone" saying "Me...", is a freaking B0 subharmonic that he sustains for about 15 seconds. He will hit another one and sustain it for 10 seconds later in the song... Together with a hellish amount of other scaring low notes. 😁
Cesar showed his gritty, fierce Berserker side, and I appreciate it a lot 🙂. Oh, and the runes on his face say "Voiceplay". What a nice touch. 😁
Layne... Well, EVERY weird sound here, INCLUDING the creaks of the wooden "door" where J is supposed to be walking through, are made by him. And his beatboxing just reached another Universe. I don't even understand how he THINKS of some of the sounds he makes.
And J None... That rap KILLED me. That flow was first class. 🙂
Thank you for your reaction(s), I love watching you guys. 🙂
See you next time!
Yesss! Loved the reaction. You can spend hours on repeat and hear/see new things each time. They are so detailed and incredible
Nice reaction guys. I love how you just enjoy everything about the production and the vocals. This song is EPIC!
FYI Valhalla is a great hall in Asgard presided over by Odin. Half of those who die in combat enter Valhalla, while the other half are chosen by the goddess Freyja to reside in Fólkvangr. The masses of those killed in combat (known as the Einherjar) along with various legendary Germanic heroes and kings, live in Valhalla until Ragnarök when they will march out of its many doors to fight in aid of Odin against the jötnar. It also acts as a training ground for all the warriors who will eventually fight in the final battle at Ragnarok - the twighlight of the gods. It is a series of events that are foretold to be the end of the world and the old gods. After which the world is reborn, cleansed, fertile, and ready to be repopulated. New gods will arise and two human survivors will spawn a new era of humanity.
This was the best explanation I’ve heard of Valhalla. Beautifully put.
I feel like VoicePlay has just hit their stride that there will be so much more awesomeness to come.
Also Odin was called The All Father I think. He was the father of the other Gods.
my mans is inventing new notes 💀(well, technically there is such a note on a grand piano and a 5-string extended range bass guitar, but holy shit)
They out do themselves every time! I cannot stop watching this, it is amazing!! That first B0 Geoff hits lasts for 15 seconds!! Eli has become the Asgardian god of rock, Layne is a beatboxing god, Cesar has become a Berserker, and J None has shown us that rap indeed belongs in acapella! Great reaction! Miracle of sound gave them 10 out of 10 raised ale horns for this cover
Speaking of Miracle of Sound in a comment below. You guys should react to the Duet version MoS did of this with Payton Parish. It really makes you get into it, and I'm obsessed with that version. I play it every morning when I wake up.
Geoff was sent to the basement to sing and he stayed there!!! 😂😂😂
Other, Professional Singers and reactors say that Geoff's Low Note in the beginning is a B0. I am NOT saying it is not, but I am NOT saying that it is. Personally, I think it is. LOL
For those that want them here are the Lyrics:
Valhalla Calling Lyrics
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Valhalla calling
Me
Ships on vigor of the waves are skimming
Barren summits to the verdant plains
Each horizon is a new beginning
Rise and reign
Far from the fjords and the ice-cold currents
Ravens soar over new frontiers
Songs and sagas of a fate determined
Shields and spears
Vows of favor or the thrill of plunder
Pull together for the clan and kin
Clank of hammers and the crash of thunder
Pound within
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
The echoes of eternity
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Valhalla calling me
Calling me
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
To pluck the strings of destiny
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Valhalla calling mе
Valhalla calling me
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Sails a swaying on the crimson river
Blood and glory in thе fighting field
Shields a shattered into splintered timbers
Iron and steel
The fires are rising and the bells are ringing
Glory take us into Odin's halls
Golden glimmer and the sound of singing
Asgard's call
Oh, whoa, oh, oh, oh
The echoes of eternity
Eternity
Oh, ho, whoa, oh
Valhalla calling me
Oh, it's calling me
Whoa, whoa, whoa
To pluck the strings of destiny
Oh, whoa, oh, oh whoa
Valhalla calling me
Valhalla calling me
Oh, ho, oh, oh, oh
Oh, ho, oh, oh, oh
*J-None Rap*
I feel like a king, or more like a god
Feeling eternal like I'll never die
Getting revenge, an eye for an eye
Ready for battle, we're ready to fight
Ready for war, right at the drop
End it with blood from the head of my ops
This how it go, it don't ever stop
This what I do when I'm up at the top
Wrath of hell raining down
When it come they hit the ground
They all end up six feet under
Their souls end up in the clouds
Fight for the crew 'cause we'll bleed and we'll brawl
Always protect to be free never fall
Fight for the glory, the conquer, the creed
And we'll never forget, Valhalla
Oh, whoa, oh, oh
The echos of eternity
Oh, whoa, oh, whoa
Valhalla calling me
Oh, whoa, oh, whoa
To pluck the strings of destiny
Oh, whoa, oh, whoa
Valhalla calling me
Valhalla calling me
Oh, whoa, oh, whoa
Whoa, oh, whoa, whoa
Whoa, oh, whoa, whoa
Whoa, oh, whoa, whoa
Valhalla calling me
Valhalla calling me
Valhalla calling me
Valhalla calling me
Miracle of Sound wrote this for the game but the rap is unique to VP's version. Miracle of Sound has 3 versions of this out: a solo, one featuring Peyton Parrish, and a third featuring Peyton Parrish and Eric Hollaway. (Man, talk about deep, deep voices!) Peyton also has his own rendition out. This video made me fall so totally in love with the song I downloaded all five version onto multiple playlists.
Not music related but still Norse related. I think you might get a kick out of the short tiktok videos by Tank Tolman. He can be sweet and heartwarming, then funny and exciting when he calls out, "Hammer!!"
Tank Tolman! One of my favorite fellow Norse Tiktokers, love all his videos! HAMMARRRR!!!
Tank is one of my favorite tik tokers!
@@307Reacts Please do a reaction video of Voice Plays cover " My Shot " Eli does some awesome rap in this one. The song is from Hamilton.
Matt and Chris a great reaction!! ❤️🔥👍
Thank you, Alie! We appreciate you being here!
Geoff does 3 extended B0s in this. Miracle of Sound tuned into this and gave it 10 out of 10 raised ale horns.
Loved the reaction! It’s a mind-blowing arrangement. Okay, that’s probably an understatement. I had to have replayed this 10 times straight when it first dropped.
Sidebar: what is up with PTX and their label? Are they going all copyright berserker or something?
They outdid themselves yet again. I wonder what they'll do next.... Something amazing I'm sure. SHIELDS AND SPEARS!
Killer reaction and appreciate the editing the Norse ! First time hearing “ Viking”being a verb !
Just found your channel last night because of your reactions to Voice Play. Joined last night . Loved your reactions!
Voice play makes his masterpiece, i think, awesome, realy, realy mindblowing, are'nt it?
one more thing about viking badassery. The song "My Mother Told Me" is based upon an actual incident (or at least supposedly) whereupon a 4/7/9.....I can't remember how old but it was definitely a small child under the age of ten ....buried an axe in another kid's head and she was proud of him, because in her words, "He will make a great warrior some day."
I leaned so much. Thank you!
Enjoyed the history as well as the reactions!
Thanks for your rundown on Valhalla and the fundamental creed.... so much crap being published in the comments that was taken straight from the comic books. It's been making me crazy. Can't confirm the static, but I understand that Layne did the creaking /slamming door.
I usually pick a favorite from each video but there was NO way to do that this time. Layne's arrangement and percussion were killer. Eli the rock god did tons of tech work on this with Unreal Engines using LED screens. Cesar was channeling his inner berserker and it was great to hear him with a little grit. J spittin' those bars left my mouth hanging open. Geoff the earthquake god hit THREE B0s, the first of which he held for 15 seconds. VoicePlay may have Layne, but they certainly don't have a "lane" musically. Everyone in this group has a 5 octave range now except Layne who can hit 6 octaves with sound effects. VoicePlay+Viking=EPIC! VoicePlay has now done two songs with added lyrics and Geoff wrote a bridge for his latest, Man of Constant Sorrow. I know Layne and Tony have written original songs for PattyCake productions so I'm hoping sometime soon we'll see an original song for VP. These guys just don't have equals when it comes to arranging and theatric videos.
Been waiting for your reaction....did not disappoint
If I recall, the battles aren’t exactly constant in Valhalla. They also feast and drink with the gods, and prepare to fight Fenrir during Ragnarok. I, too, am a believer of the Norse ways.
J None was in the Little Mermaid medley and MANY other videos! Just letting you know. This is a great video! Thanks for the reaction! 💖
Let's not forget that Freya got the first pick of the bravest and best warriors of the battlefield and snatched them away to Folkvangr, which was more of a Heaven than Valhalla. Valhalla is the kind of heaven you imagine as a rowdy teenager. Fights you don't really get hurt in, and an open bar that never closes..:)
Great reaction guys! 👍😁 You should check out "Tim and The Glory Boys - Take me Backroad". These guys are so fun and upbeat!! Love them!
10:00 Warriors who die in battle *OR* women who died in childbirth.

Love your reaction! You guys are great! Now onto Man of Constant Sorrow by Geoff!!! Hope Matt had great birthday!
This is my first time watching you guys, awesome job and epic song! I started busting up at your spitter, I am literally using the same exact thing for mine as I watch this review!

@@307Reacts Copenhagen Straight Long Cut here!
I was waiting for y’all to see this!!
The Norse Valhalla was the blueprint for the Klingons' Sto'Vo'Kor in the Star Trek Universe.
The Klingon that died in battle journeyed to Sto'Vo'Kor to spend eternity waging unending battles against great enemies.
Loved this reaction!
I am so glad you did this reaction and I appreciate the history lesson.
didn’t see it in the comments but they fight day in day out in Valhalla because they prepare the final fight of Ragnarök if I recall😉
Loved the reaction guys
...and Valhalla is a hall of Odin in the "area" of Asgård...and they also fight against the goods enemies; the giants. Kudos for knowing about go viking as a verb, I am impressed! I would say that that the Asa-belief is similar to other beliefs like the old greeks, the Egyptian and so on. You had one good for war, one for death, one for fertility and so on and why not, once we all were one people, living close together so why not have the same outlook on life. There is some things so say about the looks but...this is a song from a game and there is always the privilege of the author/producer to keep in mind. Greetings from Sweden!
Remember when you guys reacted to their cover of "My Mother Told Me" last year? This is the sequel. Most of their makeup and some of the costumes are the same, and Cesar is wearing Jose Rosario Jr.'s cloak from that video.
18:25 - Don't sleep on Thor's brother Tyr though - he was quite an important god when it came to battles :) - like this, taken from wikipedia:
In Sigrdrífumál, the valkyrie Sigrdrífa imparts in the hero Sigurd knowledge of various runic charms. One charm invokes the god Týr:
'You must know victory-runes
if you want to know victory. Carve them
into your sword's hilt, on the blade guards
and the blades, invoking Tyr's name twice.'
Jeramy Dodds translation
Thanks for all the Norse background info!
Voiceplay has a new cover. Seven Nation Army. I bet you love it!
Our reaction drops tomorrow! 😁
The song is about us in Nordic like Swedes,Norwegians and Danish Vikings how we where. I am trulu an ancester from a wellknown viking!!
Record scratch.....probably Layne.....remember your first reaction to VoicePlay?,......Carry On My Wayward Son.....when Chris wondered who did the sound at the cut-off'? It was Layne.....then, and probably now too......Geoff, hit a B0....3 times......the Long note from Geoff was 15 seconds long.........>^^
I'd guess Layne on that scratching/white noise shenanigans. I think Geoff helped throw some subharmonics in that as well. I've probably listened to the song some thirty times and still trying to wrap my brain around it.
They battle every day in a preparation for Ragnarok.
The bass singer is awesome
This reaction was amazing! Thanks guys. Randomly it popped into my head to ask though, if you haven't heard it can you react to Postmodern Jukebox's cover of "Creep" sung by Haley Reinhart?
Apparently the AC was out while they were filming so they were SWELTERING under all those furs and leathers!
