    I add honeysuckle to a lot of my own teas. Adds a little sweetness to some teas. Loved that you said the yellow flowers are the best. I’ll add more yellow honeysuckle plants to an old corn crib that it grown on . ( not a great idea to having it grow on the corn crib, as it grows way up to the top of the cribs. ❤

      This video is five years old, back before I even started growing honeysuckle and even now I do not use my honeysuckle for tea as I dry and save that for adding to my skin cream infusion and the honeysuckle I grow is dark pink with yellow centers. You must be thinking of the part where I was talking about growing both yellow and orange calendula and how I liked having the yellow with the orange as it adds more color. Anyway, if you are interested, I did do a video this past year on the benefits of honeysuckle: ruclips.net/video/EtUQQ0l6gVo/видео.html

    Once it gets cold I like tea in the evening. I mostly mix my own dried mint, plantain, sage, then add to it as I feel (hawthorn, rosehips, ..... I dried some red currants this summer and they are quite good in a tea blend!) But I will also use tea I was given, Turkish black with apple or orange added is quite nice.

      I keep meaning to make myself a sage tea as I grow a lot of it and love the taste of sage. I think I may have added it to some experimental blends in the past but never tried it alone. One thing I forgot to mention was the addition of elderberry this time of year just for an added immune boost

    According to "Christophe BERNARD - Althea Provence", who has a channel dedicated to medicinal herbs, regular use of licorice will elevate the blood pressure and its use is counter-indicated to people with chronically high blood pressure. For more details, you can contact him (he's French, but spent several years in the states and is probably fluent in English).

      I use nasturtium flowers a lot but not in tea. I have used my dried ones in my homemade herbal shampoo blend and a few other things but I am thinking the radish taste would not be great in tea. I do add the fresh flowers and leaves to salads in the summer and have even tried fermenting some like kimchi and it was quite good. :D

I think there was leaves and flowers organic and no root? Idk I forget. I’m gonna get some cause I’ve had a cough from a URI for almost 4 weeks! It’s killing me! Ugh 😑
    Thanks for sharing. Love, hugs and blessings ~The Kid!

    • @RainCountryHomestead

      Though I doubt marshmallow needs to be sprayed because it grows so well on its own, I still do not fully trust some things not labeled organic. The one they had on Amazon was just leaves. I think you can find root powder, but for things like this, I do not like using powders.
      In my opinion drinking lots of any kind of herbal tea with lots of spice is great for any kind of infection. I have found spices that are strongest in flavor (like clove and so on) also seem to be the most powerful when fighting off infections and illness. So I am sure whatever you have on hand will help.

    • @RainCountryHomestead

      I label my spices and herbs I use for cooking as many look alike but with the herbs I use for teas, they are all pretty distinct in appearance so I do not have a problem telling them apart and I do not always like how my labels look after awhile. Since these are not put away in a cupboard, I like them to look clean and neat. :)

    Debbie here, Washington 👩‍🌾please advise…. First time drying herbs in dehydrator,,,mint at 125, came out beautiful held color . Lemon balm 125’ turned ugly gray,,,question,,is it the heat? Does different herbs take different degrees? 95’ was the lowest for herbs….or does it matter what herb as long as I stay in the range listed for herbs? OR…
    ….is the graying because of the time of day , weather conditions. It is a bit warm right now. Is this a true statement? “ to keep herbs from browning or graying in the dehydrator you must pick them when the plant is at its perkiest”? 🐝🐝🐝

    • @RainCountryHomestead
      @RainCountryHomestead  2 года назад

      I don't show measurements because I do not use measurements. One of the reasons I started making videos was to SHOW people how much in approximate amounts I use when making various recipes and when making teas, I never make them the same way twice. Every thing is approximate. That is the point. Make it in a way to suit you. Want to make a smaller amount? Use smaller ratios than what I show.

    • @amandap.521
      @amandap.521 2 года назад

      @@RainCountryHomestead, thanks for the reply. I was hoping for more of a guesstimate for new ppl who are just learning. For example, start with around a 1/4 c. Or im putting in around a half cup. Especially when making such large amounts. I always try to figure out what a single serving would be of the mix so you don't waste a bunch of herbs while trying the mix. If you mix up huge batches, it could be a waste if you don't like it. 🤷‍♀️

    Why do you use Ceylon cinnamon verses the cassia

    • @RainCountryHomestead
      @RainCountryHomestead  6 лет назад +9

      Great question and though I have answered this in other videos, I do not always think to say it every time I mention it so I am very glad you asked. Cassia cinnamon is high in a compound called coumarin which can cause liver damage if taken in large amounts. Now, I am going to guess that not everyone eats large amounts of cinnamon like we do, so this may not be a huge concern. Looking into this further I have found it is likely that some of the concern over cassia is overblown, however, for those who like us, go through a great amount of cinnamon, I will still stand strong on the switching to ceylon.
